Romancing the Duke
Romancing the Duke: Castles Ever After | Tessa Dare
86 posts | 137 read | 37 to read
As the daughter of a famed author, Isolde Ophelia Goodnight grew up on tales of brave knights and fair maidens. She never doubted romance would be in her future, too. The storybooks offered endless possibilities. And as she grew older, Izzy crossed them off. One by one by one. Ugly duckling turned swan? Abducted by handsome highwayman? Rescued from drudgery by charming prince? No, no, and . . . Heh.Now Izzys given up yearning for romance. Shell settle for a roof over her head. What fairy tales are left over for an impoverished twenty-six year-old woman whos never even been kissed? This one.

Tessa Dare is one of my go-to authors for regency romance. Another great story!

Plus Carmen Rose is a fantastic narrator. I‘m enjoying this series as I work on my Lego bookshop.

Isolde Goodnight is awesome. She‘s the “star” of a series of books and the queen of the reader fandom. Pure magic. She‘s down in her luck until she inherits a castle.

Ransom, our sexy, blind Duke still lives in said castle and he‘s none too happy about the changes coming his way.

Such a fun book!

A fun romance with a castle in disrepair and a hero and heroine in dispute over who owns it. It was a good romance with plenty of twists throughout.

This was a great story, had great tension between the characters, and was so fun! I would read this one again. I‘m kind of amazed how some romances, and even some of Dare‘s books can be so good while others are really a miss.

Looks like I needed something else light and fluffy and this was great. I‘d been recommended Tessa Dare and I was impressed. Although simpler than Courtney Milan IMO, it was still very enjoyable. I do like a grumpy hero with a heart of gold and a straight talking, strong minded heroine. Also explicit - so not for the faint of heart 😂😂

Reggie Lol, that last sentence guarantees I‘m gonna put this one on my stack for when I read a “heavy” and need a break. 5y
Centique @Reggie ha! Yes - and it did the trick. I might even have bought the next one in the series... 🤷🏻‍♀️😍 5y

Holy cow, Tessa dropped a 3🌟on me.

I did not get along as well with this novel as I had her others. Much disappoint! It's good just not a favourite!

Daughter of a fairy tale author never doubts that romance is in her future, but as she grows up she strikes off the fairy tales one after the next.

Now she's settle for a roof over her head and Ransom the man of the castle has much to say.

This is the second Tessa Dare I've read, after When a Scot Ties the Knot, and it was even more fun & satisfying. She has a way of combining wildly different plot threads -- storybooks! Ferrets! Knights and handmaidens! Scurrilous solicitors! -- and making it all make a wonderful kind of sense by the end.

My first Tessa Dare and it was pretty good! I love Regency romances with really outlandish plots, strong heroines and slightly broken heroes. So, boxes definitely checked! Carmen Rose did a good job narrating. Definitely an amusing way to spend a few hours. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 1/2 #romantsy

This was just the right kind of romance for a quick fluffy read. Some steamy scenes, an unrealistic story, both people are all in pretty quickly, some silliness and a happily ever after. Perfect palate cleanser or transition book for me.

Isolde Ophelia Goodnight is destitute now that her father is dead. Her only hope is an inheritance from her godfather. Of course, it turns out to be a ruined castle infested with rats, bats, and a grumpy duke who finds out that his ancestral home has been fraudulently sold.

Ransom, Duke of Rothbury, was injured in a duel after his fiancée ran away with another man. He is now blind, scarred inside and out, and hiding away from the world.

Cute!

I give up. More than being annoyed at naive heroine and dick hero, I just don't care. I read like 275/405 pages and realized I just had no desire whatsoever to find out how they get their inevitable HEA because it was boring.

Alphaholes 👏Are 👏 Not 👏 Sexy 👏

I can get on board with brooding, alpha male heroes with a redemptive arc -- to a point. It's fuzzy, I'll be first to admit that as Beauty and the Beast is my favorite fairy tale. Right now this is on the other side of that line for me. Maybe of the heroine wasn't so insistent that a good, gentle soul waiting to be redeemed by TWUE WUV waited underneath despite zero fucking evidence of it.

parasolofdoom Also there need to be grades of alphaholes because I've been using it for problematically possessive and arrogant male leads but this dude is beyond cringy archaic manliness 6y

Izzy is such a brave and determined character. She has been subjected to some odd and terrible circumstances but makes the best of it. Ransom has been trying to recover from a life changing accident when Izzy storms into his life and changes everything. I love how Izzy is so practical and almost tried to kill any attempts at her imagination soaring. There is some fun with a children's story that is a blessing and curse on her life.

Not too long ago I would have been all, good god, no romance novels! I still haven't really read more than a few - all by Sarah MacLean - but I'm more open to reading them now. So here I am taking a stab at Tessa Dare and some waffles.
