This collection of early King novels was good. Of the four, I liked Roadwork the best. It seemed the most interesting to me. While The Running Man was more action-packed than The Long Walk, I liked the characters and the ending of The Long Walk more. Rage was okay. The common thread was the mental anguish brought on by extreme situations and how it plays out.

Just spent the whole last hour or so shoveling my driveway while it was sleeting. I wanted to get a head start before the wind starts blowing & the drifting starts. Now time to crawl back under my blanket so I can thaw out. Have I mentioned I hate winter!!

I wanted to break up the book somehow so I could easily track how far I was in each story. These were the only sticky tabs I had. It feels a little "wrong" that I am using such cute/happy tabs in a Stephen King book. ???

Thinking my next venture in King will be some Bachman. I was thinking about getting back to reading his work in chronological/publication order and these fall next on my list. Plus they are on the shorter side compared to some of this other works I haven't read yet 🤔🤓

I ordered a copy of The Bachman Books, and I am super stoked about it. 😁 I cannot wait to read Rage. 📚

Not been able to do much reading the past couple of weeks as my symptoms have been relentless! Chronic illness puts everything on hold for so many of us. If you‘re struggling you‘re not alone ❤️

My (very well-thumbed) copy of this King-as-Bachman classic. Well worth a go. Roadwork, in particular, stands out. Reminded me in some ways of Philip K Dick‘s early ‘mainstream‘ fiction. Compelling as the tension builds and all done without a trace of horror.

Yesterday, I was walking by the bookshelf and I just stopped and grabbed The Bachman Books, flipped to The Long Walk and dug in. This is my comfort read - although, it‘s so disturbing - I have loved it since I was a kid. I started on chapter 4 and just laid down and kept going. This is my favourite book to reread and I‘ve probably read the whole thing 8 times over my 20+ years of being a Stephen King fan.

Returning this one to the library because it's in rough shape & I don't want to be the one responsible for destroying it 😂 My favorites in order from best to worst are:

1) The Long Walk
2) The Running Man
3) Rage
4) Roadwork

1) well I kind of had a stressful weekend at work, so getting off on Sunday night was nice. Also someone gave me free corn from their garden.
2) just having time to myself & maybe treating myself to a treat...I really want a donut 😂 🍩
3) Skipping Christmas, but I nearly panned The Lying Game by Ruth Ware
4) working my way through the Bachman Books. I've read Rage & The Long Walk & now Roadwork.

Stephen King fact of day : rage is only in the early printings of the Bachman books because of the gun controversy . He pulled the printing of the book so it is no longer printed love these versions I own !!! #horror #Stephenking

After hearing about how amazing The Long Walk is, I finally picked this up. Not disappointed! It's a story that will stay with me the rest of my life. The other three stories were well worth buying the book. As always, King is the master of the short story format.

Well, I was going to start Rage for #losersclub but I was waiting for my copy of The Bachman Books to arrive that I ordered over two weeks ago...it came today and turns out that it doesn‘t even contain Rage! Hmm...guess I‘ll skip that one and move on to The Shining? LOL

I just picked up The Bachman Books from the library in anticipation of the #LosersClub read of Rage! I also found numerous others books that I am now compelled to read despite my growing pile of TBR at home...this is why I don't allow myself to go to the library often! 😂 #bookaddict

Well, I‘ve completely lost track of where I‘m supposed to be on the #LosersClub #SKBuddyRead. However a week or so ago I believe it was @GarthRanzz who mentioned Rage, which is in the old versions of The Bachman Books. So I looked for my copy (no luck) and ordered a used copy from Thriftbooks. It‘s a little rough at the edges but I‘m glad to have a copy since there are no new printings of Rage. I‘ll catch up with the #losersclub sometime!!!

I haven't read these in a while... I think since the collection first came out in the 80's. I got this a few years back and was surprised to see that Rage is in this edition as Stephen King has since dropped it from the newer editions.

Soooo... I've been slacking in my #LosersClub #StephenKing #BuddyRead challenge... I was Rage mentioned and thought I'd already missed it and that we were onto the next book. But it's been years since I read Rage and wanted to see how it would affect me as an adult. Of course once I dug up my copy and started reading I saw that we don't start until April 18th... so I'll table it until then and dig up the book we ARE reading. Lol.

This is maybe one of my best book finds. My husband and I took a day trip to Milwaukee a couple of days ago and went into this new/used bookstore. There were several copies of the Bachman Books with 'Rage' in them...so naturally we bought several copies. Since it was removed from print (it allegedly inspired a string of school shootings) it is VERY hard to find...and nearly impossible to find for only $4. Can't wait to read this provocative story.

This month of King is really showing me exactly how much I've lost, as soon as my bastard back is better one of the first things I'll be doing is a charity shop book crawl to try and replace what's gone.

Stephen King actually had "Rage" removed from publication. I found this out when I read his essay "Guns" and I had to find it. My library has a copy with Rage in it. I am so sorry Stephen.

Stephen King fans: is this a good place to start if you've never read King before? My future sister-in-law just sent me this one in the mail. We've got a postal book exchange of sorts going. (I live in Columbus and she lived in Minneapolis.) This series does sound pretty interesting!

Love how Stephen King, in the intro to the Bachman Books, states Bachman died of "cancer of the pseudonym". ?. Just had to share! I'm reading Rage from this collection right now. Many of you know Rage is no longer published, at King's request. #allhallowsread @Litsy

Happy birthday to me 🎂 decided to gift myself by going to a Goodwill I don't normally go to. $13 including scented candle. Was surprised to find this Bachman Books containing Rage b/c I know it's out of print. Good #spooktober
reading, right? Read My Lips is not what I'd normally read but has a deaf protagonist (I'm deaf so gotta check out the characterization). Throw in a book of poetry and a vintage The Godfather and I'd say I did well 😊👍

I found this excellent hardcover edition to replace my battered paperback. It looks like it's been read maybe two times.
