The Shining | Stephen King

Pickpick

A haunted hotel with giant topiary animals that come alive, sensational! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I read somewhere about the similarities in the character Jack and King. Alcoholic, writer, teacher, young family etc. I couldn‘t stand Jack. What a man baby, always playing the victim and he was just plain mean!
Time to finally watch the film, I‘m sure I will be disappointed!

Rissreadswithcats I was so happy Jack got what was coming to him finally! Wendy and Danny are better off without him. 24h

Suet624 I‘m immersed in a book about The Troubles right now and that photo surprised me! 4d
Luke-XVX @Suet624 I can see that being a definite double take! 4d
DimeryRene @Suet624 That‘s the first thing I thought! Are you reading Say Nothing? 3d
Suet624 @DimeryRene Nope. Read that a few years ago. I‘m reading another one that‘s fascinating about Irish informers for the British hidden within the IRA. (edited) 3d

“Almost everyone thought the man and the boy were father and son.“

tpixie I read this book when it first came out as a teenager. I absolutely loved it. But from then on until probably finally in my 30s 😂 when we got a big black lab, I had to always make sure all the windows & draperies were closed at night time so I would not see a vampire out my window!!! 🪟 🧛🏻‍♂️ 😱 4d
Bookwomble @tpixie The vampire at the window element of Salem's Lot always put me in mind of the story The Vampire of Croglin Grange - very spooky! 4d
tpixie @Bookwomble ohh! Dare I read that?! 4d

dabbe I'm in for a good scare, aren't I? 😱 4d
tpixie @dabbe yes! Although since you‘re an adult, you might do better than 14- 15-year-old me! 4d
tpixie @Bookwomble I found the vampire of croglin grange! https://gutenberg.net.au/ebooks06/0605661h.html (edited) 4d
dabbe @tpixie The 15-year old me who saw the original FRIDAY THE 13TH in the movie theater (so dating myself) still checks under her bed every night before she goes to bed. 😂 3d
tpixie @dabbe 🩵🩵🩵 I have to have at least a sheet over me- no matter how hot I am- a simple sheet can protect me from the bogeyman!! If it‘s off, he will come! And I never allow my feet or arms to hang over the bed! 😂 3d
dabbe @tpixie We are the best wimps, aren't we? 🩶🖤🩶 3d
tpixie @dabbe yes! We are!!! 🩵🪼🩵 3d
Bookwomble @tpixie Croglin Grange was first published in 1900 by an archdeacon, so it's not gory, but it is spooky. Nice find on Gutenberg 😊 I think it's only 5 or 6 pages, so should be a quick read 🧛‍♂️ 3d
ShyBookOwl On my tbr for YEARS 3d
tpixie @Bookwomble thanks!! 3d
dabbe @ShyBookOwl Me, too! I'm a bit terrified to read it! 😂 3d

Ok #losersclub I watched the miniseries of the Shining with Rebecca DeMornay and Steven Weber and it‘s way more accurate than the original. I still like the original better, but this was really good! #stephenking #kingfromthebeginning #booktomovie

Bookwormjillk Where did you find it? 1w
BarkingMadRead @Bookwormjillk I rented it on Amazon prime, I think it was $4? It took us two nights to watch it 1w
5feet.of.fury I like the miniseries, it is more psychological. Kubrick‘s version is just so good (no matter what SK thinks 😂😅) 1w

Doctor Sleep: A Novel | Stephen King
post image
Pickpick

I re-read Doctor Sleep by Stephen King, which is the January selection for our Constant Reader book club. I first read it in 2013, so it was like reading it for the first time. I had forgotten so much, and I had no idea how the story was going to end. I seldom re-read books, but being part of this book club has required me to change that behavior. I‘m discovering that I enjoy re-reading books.

DimeryRene Yes! I love a reread! It‘s always like reading it anew for me. Things just fall out of my brain, so I hardly remember too much. 2w
Reggie I thought it was so cool that he references Charlie Manx from his son‘s book Nos4ATU in here. Their universes overlap. Very cute. 2w
NatalieR @DimeryRene Same here! I think I forget more than I remember. 😆 2w

NatalieR @Reggie That was pretty awesome! 😎 2w
TieDyeDude Nice! We are reading The Shining for #losersclub; it's my first time reading it. I'm interested in reading Doctor Sleep this year as well, and checking out the movie, which I've been avoiding since I know there are significant differences between The Shining movie and book, and Dr Sleep is more in line with the book. 2w
NatalieR @TieDyeDude It‘s probably good you haven‘t seen The Shining movie yet. 😅 There are few similarities to the book. I‘ll be curious about your thoughts. I hope you enjoy both books. 📕 1w
