The Accidental Husband
The Accidental Husband | Jane Green
31 posts | 26 read | 23 to read
Jane Green's The Accidental Husband is a powerful story about two women connected by an earth-shattering secret. Maggie and Sylvie are perfect strangers: two very different women, living very different lives on opposite coasts. But they share more in common than they could ever imagine. Both women have beautiful children on the verge of flying the nest, the home they worked hard to build and always longed for, and a handsome and devoted husband they can't believe belongs to them. Both women think their lives are seamlessly secure, but they couldn't be more wrong . . . For each is about to discover a secret that will shake their world to the very core, throwing into doubt everything they ever thought they knew, and bringing Maggie and Sylvie together in the most unexpected way. Praise for Jane Green: 'A heartbreaking tale of love and family, truly compelling' Closer 'Compulsively readable. I raced through it' Daily Mail 'Green is women's fiction royalty . . . a compelling family drama' Glamour Jane Green's internationally best-selling novels, including The Other Woman, Jemima J., Babyville, Girl Friday (published as Dune Road in the USA), Life Swap (Swapping Lives), Spellbound (To Have and to Hold), The Beach House, Second Chance, Straight Talking, Mr. Maybe, Bookends, The Love Verb and The Patchwork Marriage (Another Piece of My Heart) are incredibly moving and extremely relatable. The Accidental Husband is Jane's fourteenth novel. She lives in Connecticut with her husband and their blended family of six children.

Welcome to #FamilyOfMeaning. Take yourself and your family (if you have no family, feel free to use your friends), translate their names into meanings. Then take those meanings to the books. Pick a book that you think goings with that person's meaning. Try to fill up the #FamilyTree. This challenge is a year long (or longer if you have a large family), so please take your time. I hope you enjoy yourself with this one! Everyone Welcome!!

#TBRCrew

LazyOwl This is really unique idea, love this 4y

Not book related but family photos make me happy, especially in the stress induced haze of post-election day.
We had photos taken on our wedding anniversary last month. I try to make it an annual thing because I have so few photos of my family when I was a kid; the few that I have, I cherish.

A smidgeon of the task ahead of me. I‘ve been processing cassettes, CDs, DVDs, VHS tapes, news clippings, and photos for many hours over the last week. Just getting all of them in the same PLACE to test for duplicates is proving impossible. How do my parents find so many #boltholes in this house?!
I know some of y‘all are feeling me on this as you try to #familysupport and #declutter during #quarantine...and dang, my fingers are grimy! 😝

Trying to find the positive in these days of uncertainty and I think this picture says it all. As a housebound chronically ill person, it feels like I‘ve been practicing social distancing for years and without these amazing beautiful people, I would‘ve gone nuts long ago. Show me the ones that keep you loved! #FamiliesOfLitsy #KeepLitsyPositive #isolationinteractions

Lizpixie @runswithscissors007 @erzascarletbookgasm @AmyG thank you! I‘m incredibly lucky to have them♥️ @CarolynM I‘d love to see your family! The people who love you are the most important legacy you leave I think. @Klou I know! This quarantine will be no sweat for us as a group. As long as the food keeps coming. And toilet paper of course!🧻😂 5y
Klou @Lizpixie I feel the same about my family. Couldn't have gotten through the last few years without them. I'd have gone crazy being indoors all the time, on top of the struggles with my health, if it weren't for my family. What you say is so true! Yep 😂 very true. Haha 5y

I think I managed to hate every character in this book at one point. With that being said, I still enjoyed it. It‘s an easy read (or easy listen) and just like I imagined it to be. A little predictable, but that doesn‘t mean it‘s a bad book. I‘m definitely glad I read it. It‘s been on my tbr for years.

I love this author. I don‘t think I have read anything yet by her that I didn‘t like. She really is very good at exploring different ideas in all of her books and keep it interesting. This book had a great twist, great characters and a great ending. I really enjoyed it!

My picture is my husband and me at our wedding. It's the best picture of us but was a group shot with my father-in-law's boss's family. So I cropped it to just us for social media.

We got married at the zoo because I was being sarcastic one day and said wouldn't it be funny to get married with the pandas. Turned out to be the cheapest option so we did. My mouth gets me in a lot of trouble. 😂

@MinDea This photo is #whatisfamily to me: these most precious three people in my life; with my parents a very close second. It‘s love and squabbles and stopping what you are doing alone to do something together and lending a shoulder for a cry. It‘s giving more than receiving. ❤️❤️❤️ Nice idea for your giveaway. I‘d 💜 to win the book. It‘s such a sweet gesture.

Because I loved the Jane Green books I've read before I picked this one up without even reading the blurb; I have to say i wasn't disappointed! It is such a gripping book and I couldn't wait to find out what happened next. I really loved the characters and the story was really gripping.

If you want the equivalent of a soap opera in book format, this is it. Trite, flat prose, uninspired dialogue filled with clichés (I kept closing it and going "who talks like that?!?") and soooooo much drama. I mean, WAY too much drama for any one book. Financial ruin, bigamy, eating disorders, ruined families, deaths, near-deaths, you name it. And yet in the last few chapters it all gets tidied up into a happily ever after. What??? ??

DebinHawaii Bummer! I just bought this one at my local library sale. Oh well, at least it was only 50 cents! 😬 8y
Elisa Oh, sorry @DebinHawaii 😶 I had a few expectations of my own with this one so I grabbed it right off the table at the book swap! I read a couple of her older books and especially the first was very enjoyable and remained one of my favorite chick-lit books. Can't win them all I suppose 😬 8y
Elisa Someone said on Amazon that in average 2 out of 3 books that she writes need to be tossed and one is a keeper, which is a bit harsh (though I suppose I was a bit harsh in my review as well — that's what disappointment can do to you: make you bitter!) but not entirely off the mark, I think 😐 8y
DebinHawaii @Elisa No worries. I have had some hits or misses with her books over the years so I have not read her last few and thought this one sounded good from the cover. I knew it was a bit of a risk going in. 😀👍I have been there too with being bitterly disappointed about a book that you want to be good but just isn't! 8y
