Vishous goes to Jane's home to tell her the good news, that Phury will take his place. He removes the block on her memories. Meanwhile, Phury goes to the other side to start his duties as Primale. He is appalled that Carmia is bound and gaged to a bed. He releases her and takes her back to the mansion. Phury has the Directrix's number and reports her to the SV. Vishous goes to the hospital and removes the images of his heart and wipes Manny's mind

TheSpineView During training, Zsadist realizes John is lefthanded like his father, Darius. He comments that he even moves like him. Jane is shot by a lesser and dies in Vishous's arms. Jane is greeted by her sister's ghost on the other side. The ghost tells Jane she must let Vishous go to continue fully to the other side. V has a plan to reanimate Jane by using lesser blood. The SV stops him. Phury discovers that the Directrix is the one who shot Vishous. 1w

TheSpineView Vishous's visions come back ṭo him. The SV gives Jane back to Vishous, sort of. She is a ghost now. John is given Darius's journal. V goes to thank the SV for the gift of Jane and finds that her sacrifice was her beloved birds. It is revealed that V has a twin sister. Jane goes to say goodbye to Manny as a ghost. TheSpineView Some final thoughts on this book. In my eyes, the SV redeemed herself a little with the gift of Jane to V. However, she destroyed it when I found out she was basically keeping her daughter in suspended animation. I have come to the conclusion that she is just one of those characters I am going to love to hate. I think Jane as a personal physician to the brothers is fabulous. No more Havers! Yeah! So happy John now has a piece of Darius. I wonder 1w

ShananigansReads So many things happening at the end of this book. I remember having mixed feelings about how Jane and V end up together when I first read the story but this time around I feel like it‘s pretty perfect. Maybe because I already knew what to expect. 1w

TheSpineView ...if the journal will tell us who John's mother is. Will we even get any insight into what is in the journal. I'm glad V got his own HEA. Now on to Phury's story. Free free to discuss anything, even if it is at a later date. 1w

julesG I don't like the SV. So far every time she did something nice we get to see a 'nastier' side of her afterwards. I want to know what's in the journal too. There are quite a lot of lose ends at the end of the book. Sure, they will be dealt with in later books, hopefully, but when in later books. I'm impatient. 😉 1w

Z has man to man conversation with John. He promises John that he will keep all of John's secrets. Vishous takes Jane home and erases her memory. Manello is worried about Jane and goes to visit her. V sees him there and loses his shit. Butch stops V from

TheSpineView ...doing anything Rash. They have a good old-fashioned knockdown fight but are good afterwards. V can't resist making love to Jane but puts it in her head that she is dreaming. Jane wakes up and thinks she slept with Manello. However, he tells her no they didn't. Now Jane thinks she is crazy 3w

TheSpineView Vishous and Carmia are both miserable over their mating. In the end, Vishous storms out and can't go through with it. At a meeting with all the Brothers in Wrath's office, Phury offers to take Vishous's place. TheSpineView I feel so sorry for Phury. He holds so much guilt over events that were out of his control. I think they all need therapy. God help us if a man ever thought he needed therapy. julesG I've said it before, I hate the SV's whole breeding program. She had planned for her own son to be her prize stallion?? I'd love to slap her with a hardcover edition of each of the books. I'm utterly sorry for both, Vishous and Phury (different reasons, of course). 3w

julesG Men/males going to therapy? So far only one Brother was willing to try (?) and it has done him good. They could all benefit from therapy, they all carry lots of baggage. 3w

TheSpineView @julesG Agree. However, if I am thinking like an author, how do you write the actions of a character? A goddess would be a narcissist probably, because their word is law... literally. From that view point, I see why the plot is that way. The means justifies the end from the SV's pov. Also, religion in general is bogged down in dogma and tends not to change with the times. It also creates tension in the plot. It makes me dislike the SV's character 3w

TheSpineView @julesG...and the reader needs someone to put blame on... maybe this is what Ward was thinking when she created the character and the belief system as part of the world building. A whole thesis paper could be written on this. Anyway, I am in total agreement with you. As a mother, I couldn't do something like that to my child. The whole breeding thing just gives me the creeps. 3w

In chapters 14 - 26, starts with Zsadist talking to Phury about Bells's pregnancy. She is bleeding and is rightfully worried. He takes her to see Havers. John is not feeling well yet goes to class anyway. Quinn and Blay tell him they have his back when it comes to Lash. Vishous realizes he has fallen for Jane. Vishous recalls more of the times he spent in the camp with his father. He realizes he can read Jane's..

TheSpineView ...and Jane desires him even though he is a Vampire. He also released a bonding scent when he let Jane pleasure him. He knows he has to send her home soon. Phury takes out his frustration over Bella on a lesser. He is so distracted that another lesser attacks him and he is injured badly. He insists on going back to the mansion because he doesn't want to upset Bella if he runs into her at Haver's clinic. Jane is asked to help Phury. She does... 1mo

TheSpineView ..surgery to repair the damage to his skull and face. The operation goes well, though Jane is not sure about Phury's sight. Vishous and Butch are talking after the surgery, and Butch says he approves of him and Jane as a couple. V admits he used to be attracted to Butch but not since Jane. Butch admits he knew but is cool with it. V is happy he gets more time with Jane and takes her to his condo for some alone time. John goes with Qhuinn and Blay 1mo

TheSpineView ...to ZeroSum. While there, John meets Xhex and she learns who John really is. Once they leave, they run into two lessers, which John kills. Thank goodness, John is an excellent shot with a gun. But he has another seizure once he stabs them both. He awakes at the mansion and has started his transition. Layla is there to drink from. But John is still struggling with his past and not able to have sex with her. Layla feels it is her fault. 1mo

TheSpineView Every time V has a flash back to his time in the training camp with his father it makes me wonder, how could the Scribe Virgin let the Bloodletter be the father of Z. She could have chosen anyone. I get that she wanted a powerful warrior. However, there had to be others that were close in strength and cunning without the physo path tendencies. 1mo

julesG I'll never understand why the SV chose the Bloodletter for procreation. She can't have been that desperate. 1mo

julesG Speaking of the SV, why does she make whores out of her Chosen? "donating" blood is fine by me, but the rest feels morally icky. 1mo

This is book 5 and the story of Vishous and Jane. The story starts with a glimpse of Jane as a child. Her parents are cold and controlling. Her younger sister, whom she adored, dies very young. A game on the Ouija board says she will marry someone named Vishous. V is wanting a relationship like Butch and Marissa have. While Phury is still pining over Bella. Quinn goes through his transition and tells John and Bley

TheSpineView ...all about it. V finds out his mother is the Scribe Virgin and she wants him to become the Primale. Basically, he will be her prized stallion and he will service all the Chosen starting with Cormia. Cormia , as well as V, are not happy about this. V is gravely injured in a fight with lessors. He ends up in the human ER where Jane is now a trauma surgeon. She saves his life. Manny is the Chief of Surgery and likes Jane. She wants a job at.. 1mo

TheSpineView ...Columbia but Manny is trying to talk her out of it. The brothers come for V and he insists that Jane come back to the mansion with him so they kidnap her. Z tells John that Lash is coming back and he has gone through the transition. He says not to start anything with Lash. Z basically says he has John's back. Jane awakens at the mansion. Though she asks V several times what he is, he always deflects. She is starting to figure things out. 1mo

TheSpineView V is acting liked a bonded male. He is very possessive and protective over her. Finished this one about a week ago. This is the 5th book in the series and mostly follows V and a surgeon Jane. These books all have kind of weird endings for me. They‘re romance so they have a slight HEA, but a weird HEA.

So much tragedy in this one. I was so excited for John to finally reach his transition (becoming an adult male), but there was still so much sadness in the milestone for him. He got his father‘s/his diary, so that he at least feels like he has a connection to someone. He‘s so adrift in this book. At least he‘s got Blay and Quinn now. 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻

GingerAntics I like the connection John is forming with Z though, too. Those two kind of need each other. I just hope the diary doesn‘t give him seizures. 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻 3y

GingerAntics It was great seeing Vishous finally face his past, share it with someone, then open himself up. It was unfortunate how he lost it all in the end, but sort of got it back. I really didn‘t remember the bombshell about his mother. I can‘t believe I ever managed to forgot that one. 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻 3y

We‘ve had this discussion, too. “Free will” is a bit of a misnomer. You only have as much “free will” as your gender, sex, sexual identity, socioeconomic status, religion, location, etching grant you. Freedom for one is not freedom for another.

GingerAntics @TheBookHippie totally agree. I honestly couldn‘t agree me. There are only so many things you can exhaust your will upon. Most of life is a rollercoaster. You can hop off anytime you want (we‘ve swung back to suicide again), but you can‘t rebuild the track because you don‘t like it. You control yourself (sort of - chronic illness comes to mind), but that‘s it. 3y

This is one of my least favorite books out of the series. I did not like the kidnapping part and then them falling for one another. Also, there was barely any action in this book and no really evil person in it. So, that bummed me out. I did like having the POVs of Phury and John.

Lots of unexpected twists and turns with this one. It was great. I ended up with more respect for Vishous because he fell for a more dominant woman. Question, how is it these big, bad, biker-like vampires meet someone and fall happily in love for life in an instant? That does seem unrealistic. Another great installment of BBD. I think one of the reasons I've liked this one best is the lack of a perspective from the Lessers. I think they are a bore even though I know the BBD needs an enemy.

Woodchuc67 I know what you mean😊. I love the series so far (I am now on Lover Avenged) and don‘t like the Lessers😠. So far there are only two parts that I didn‘t see coming and was upset about was Wellsie and Jane☹️...but I have moved on now 😉. J.R. Ward has an amazing imagination 😻...thank you @CoverToCoverGirl for introducing me to this wonderful author and helping me to open my mind to other worlds 💕 7y

Ahh, I finally got the hardcover version of Lover Unbound and my #jrward #shelfie is now complete. My only annoyance is that my Lover Enshrined copy was apparently a different edition and is slightly smaller. Oh well, next gift card might fix that issue. For now, I'm happy with my shelf of #hardcover #bdb books. 🤓🤓
