Our friend, Varian Fry,(The Flight Portfolio) mentioned in relation to Arendt‘s ability to leave Europe for the USA. Life‘s intersections at work.

“…the propaganda effect of infallibility: the trick of appearing omnipotent by prophesying a future that you then make happen.”

Cuilin Oh shoving people over the border to make a migrant crisis? Watch what will happen soon. 2d
kspenmoll @Cuilin Its going to be challenge to be hopeful with this “regime.” 12h
ravenlee @Cuilin @kspenmoll I just shared a quote from Angela Davis in Freedom Is a Constant Struggle about optimism of the will despite pessimism of the intellect. It feels very apt today. 6h
kspenmoll @ravenlee Thank you! I just saw it & photographed for a “picture book” I am starting to go to when i feel the need! 6h

Eichmann sounds a lit like somebody else in today‘s news, doesn‘t he? I mean, like a lot of somebodys, really.
#adventuresinphilosophy #HannahArendt

Cuilin I thought that too. And history repeats itself. 1w
Tamra There is so much history on repeat. 1w
Larkken This articulates my feelings about sooo many people that have sat next to me and used me as a set piece to pontificate to lately! I think theres an epidemic of them 😝 1w
kspenmoll Yes, so much is repeating itself right now- it‘s a challenge to not be afraid of our future. 1w

I am taking it slow reading this book. How are others doing? This particular passage spoke to me quite loudly. #adventuresinphilosophy #resistance #HannahArendt

23 Feb - Mischief and Craft
2 Mar - From White Noise to Consciousness

GingerAntics @TheBookHippie how did you see that so fast?! 2w
TheBookHippie @GingerAntics just logged in 🤣 I just put it on hold hopefully it arrives soon. 2w
kspenmoll I will check this book out-see if library has it. 2w
ravenlee Ok, I‘ll give this a try. I was getting all confused because Litsy wasn‘t showing it as read but I thought I had…I did read this about five years ago. I liked it but don‘t remember it and still have it, so I guess it‘s time. 2w
AlaSkaat Looks good. I‘ll try getting the book by end of this month 2w

This also sounds fun. Let me know if you‘d rather read this (or something like it). This seems like it might be a bit more upbeat… which I feel like we need these days.

AlaSkaat This sounds a lot more interesting and less daunting! 2w
GingerAntics @AlaSkaat that‘s what I thought! 2w
AlaSkaat When do you guys think of starting? 2w
GingerAntics @AlaSkaat that‘s going to be my next question. Do we want to start later in January or wait for February? 2w
AlaSkaat @GingerAntics February would be ideal for me, but I‘m open to anything 2w
GingerAntics @AlaSkaat February 2nd is the first Sunday, and that actually gives us 4 Sundays between now and then, so everyone would have time to get a copy and what not. 2w
AlaSkaat Works for me. How would we do it this time? I read one of your comments where you said questions were hard to come up with, we could try something easier ? 2w
GingerAntics @AlaSkaat I‘m thinking either just open the discussion, maybe have one question to start things. I thought about opening it up so if anyone had something they wanted to discuss they could post it and we could all join in. In the Shakespeare group we just had a post and it was a discussion free for all. That wouldn‘t be so bad. 2w
AlaSkaat @GingerAntics yeah, we can try doing that 2w
GingerAntics @AlaSkaat I feel like the conversations are more organic that way and they‘re easier to have. You just kind of jump in. If a topic gets a ton of traction or something, we could make a separate post for it just to keep things organised if we needed to. 🤷🏼‍♀️ 2w
AlaSkaat @GingerAntics That sounds good. We‘ll see how the discussions go next time 2w
GingerAntics @AlaSkaat if it doesn‘t work, we can always go back or try something else. I‘m always open to ideas. 2w
kspenmoll My son thinks he has this- now to find it in his extensive somewhat chaotic library!!!! 1w
GingerAntics @kspenmoll love that! Fingers crossed you can find it! 1w

We talked about reading this in January, but I don‘t know how we‘re all feeling about this after the Sam Harris book.

TheBookHippie I cannot 😩 2w
GingerAntics @TheBookHippie I‘ve been having the same thought. 2w
ravenlee I got it recently and want to read it, but not immediately. I think it has to be an improvement, right? Also, “science” is a good sign that it won‘t just be incoherent ramblings. I think. I hope. 2w

julesG 😂😂😂 Spot on!!! 3w
GingerAntics @kspenmoll @TheBookHippie @julesG I knew this was the perfect image for this group. It just took some doing to get Litsy to actually let me post it. Oof 3w
AlaSkaat At this point I feel like we‘ve been reading metaphysics with all those questions that always come up but no answers to them! 2w
GingerAntics @AlaSkaat I think that last one definitely left so many questions unanswered. Harris is known for the nonsense. That‘s as my second Sam Harris book, and my last 2w
GingerAntics @AlaSkaat in all fairness, we have been reading a lot about what is real and what is not, so yeah, we‘ve been doing a lot of metaphysics. 2w
ravenlee Right on the nose! (Boop) 2w
GingerAntics @ravenlee the (boop) is perfection! 2w

Cuilin I read some before the holidays but had to return it to the library. I may borrow it again. 3w
GingerAntics I haven‘t been able yup get my hands on a copy of this yet. Hopefully in the next few weeks. 🤞🏻 3w
Suet624 I have to say I read at least a 1/4 of the book and then decided it wasn't what I was looking for. It was more about her life and what I was looking for was books she had written. So I'm trying to find some at libraries before I pursue online. My book budget has gone completely off the rails. 2w
kspenmoll @Suet624 Thanks for your input!!! I have not gotten very far… Does your library have 2w
Suet624 I just put a hold on The Origins of Totalitarianism. 2w
