"Riley's engaging and mezmerizing story of self-discovery and love...can be perfectly read as a standalone. This book will appeal to readers of Edwardian novels and Jane Austen-style fiction." --Library Journal (starred review) "[Lucinda Riley] is a master of plotting... This substantial book is a surprisingly quick and easy read, with engaging characters, a tantalizing glimpse of Edwardian society, and dual storylines that are inventive and intriguing."--Historical Novel Society In this spellbinding novel, two independent women--separated by a hundred years but linked by forces larger than themselves--discover the secrets of their birth in the spellbinding third book of an epic series by New York Times bestselling author Lucinda Riley. Star D'Apliese is at a crossroads in her life after the sudden death of her beloved father--the elusive billionaire, affectionately called Pa Salt by his six daughters, all adopted from across the four corners of the world. He has left each of them a clue to their true heritage, and Star's clue leads her to an antiquarian bookshop in London, and the start of a new journey. A hundred years earlier, headstrong and independent Flora MacNichol vows she will never marry. She is happy in her home in England's picturesque Lake District--just a stone's throw away from her childhood idol, Beatrix Potter. But when circumstances carry her to London, and into the home of one of Edwardian England's most notorious society hostesses, Alice Keppel, she finds herself a pawn in a larger game; forced to choose between passionate love and duty to her family. That is, until a meeting with a mysterious gentleman reveals answers Flora has been searching for... Star's voyage of discovery takes her deep into Flora's remarkable story, and into her own past. But the more she uncovers, the more Star begins to question herself, and her place in the world. Ideal for fans of Downton Abbey and the historical fiction of Kate Morton and Kristin Hannah, The Shadow Sister is the "perfect curl-up-in-an-armchair read" (Daily Mail) for anyone who wants to travel through the lush English countryside and explore the lives and loves of the British aristocracy.

My #tbr for the next weeks. Already started at least 7 of them (and a few books NOT on The List 😬) I will soon listen to The First 7 books of the Seven Sisters series before I finally will listen to Atlas. The shadow Sister is my favorite so far. 😊

#3 in this series, set in London. Star goes to a bookshop in London to try to find her lost family. Not as historical as book 2 but a nice cozy story. Cece is now on the move so for sure I have to read book 4.

5✨

Ever since the start of this series, I've been anticipating Star's story. And I was not disappointed. Out of the 3 I've read so far, this is definitely my favourite!
Not only did I fall in love with Star, but even more so with Flora. Both their stories resonated close to my heart.

I obviously had to go buy the next 2 books, and am saving up for the rest. I'm ao curious about CeCe, I'm not sure I like her currently.

Finished this one a few minutes ago. I love this series. Star‘s story is complicated but wonderful. I love the accents by the narrator, especially Star‘s French one. Having Beatrix Potter involved was great, too. I am happy to have this long audiobook finished before diving in to #Scarathlon2022 in October. #90 #BookSpin #BFC22 #AlmostAChunkster at 513 pages #SERIES2022 #SuperSeptember

This book did have its sweet moments that I enjoyed and the drama was quite engaging, but there were times where I felt the writer could have dwelled in a little more in the story.

The historical aspects were interesting but it didn‘t give out that shock-value it was supposed to provide. And when anything big happened, the characters‘s reactions kind of toned down the feelings you had towards that event. Irritated me quite a bit.

This line felt like a jolt into reality and it just made me pause for a minute or so. You just never know when a good piece of advice comes your way, and it just feels special when it surprises you through a book❤️.

My fav of the series so far! I loved the Edwardian setting and such an interesting plot. At over 700 pages, it‘s a chunkster but never dragged. An easy, comforting read! 😊 💫

Caroline2 @squirrelbrain I‘m enjoying it. Nothing amazing but comforting. Bit cheesy at times with the romance elements but good if you want an easy read. 👍 3y

The third in the series by Lucinda Riley. I think this might be my favourite one (Yes, I read them slightly out of order!) I just loved the combination of English history and beautiful settings of grand old houses mixed with a touch of romance and self discovery. I also love how it further pads out the larger story of Pa Salt and his 7 adopted daughters and how they each discover their own truths as they explore their origins.

This is the 3rd book in Lucinda Riley's the Seven Sisters series. So far this has been my favourite book in the series, although, I will admit, I absolutely loooove this series. This book takes us on a journey into old English history with a wonderful royal mix. Throw in a classic English bookstore, and you can not help but fall in love with this story 💜

The 3rd book in a series of 7 - I loves these stories! The first book is my favorite so far, but this one was really good, too.

Six girls were adopted by Pa Salt who left each one of them clues about their birthplaces that they received after he died. But is he really dead??

Mystery, romance, contemporary fiction and historical fiction are in each of these books. I have book 4 on my nightstand and am excited to continue this journey.

Another incredible book from the series. Pages just flew away effortlessly. From all the sisters, Star is the one that caught my attention with her quietness and her attachment to another sister.

I‘m not familiar with historical fiction, amazed by how the writer connects the fictional and the real historical characters into the story. There are some hints that raise readers‘ questions about a hidden truth of an important character in the series.

What are you reading (and eating) this weekend? Husband prepared garlic butter tuscan shrimp with creamy sauce filled with garlic, spinach, and sun-dried tomatoes. Still have not read book 2 in the seven sisters series, but I thought might as well put these chunksters into good use with some photo-op with husband‘s culinary creations.

Some parts of the book seemed unnecessarily long - I did want the story to get going at a faster pace sometimes, but at the same time, I enjoyed reading. The author does a great job of blending historical facts with compelling and believable fiction.
Although, characters were over dramatic, whiny, self indulgent, even childish, but the book is good, catchy.
I'm looking forward to continuing reading this series as the sisters travel the globe.

It took me a few weeks but I finally finished this! I ADORE THIS SERIES. This third installment was fantastic, I fell in love with Star and related to her so much. Can't wait for #4 (coming this fall!!)
The main mystery behind the central story is starting to build up some suspense; I think I can already start to imagine what's going on...
Solid 4⭐

Andrew65 I also love this series and feels far too long until we get the next book. I think so far The Storm Sister would be my favourite! 8y
Andrew65 I think you are ahead of me if you can imagine what is going on with the central theme. 8y

Andrew65 Finished the book, which was just as good as the others. 😊 Now a long wait for book 4 😖 Although I think unlike the others the last chapter of this book possibly led into book 4. Need to line up my next Lucinda Riley book whilst I wait for book 4. 8y
ephemeralwaltz @Andrew65 that's exciting! I loved the ending of the second book, there's definitely something mysterious going on that Riley isn't letting us in on yet.... 8y
Andrew65 @ephemeralwaltz She is certainly keeping something back, who is this seventh sister? I loved some of the things revealed in this book (but my mouth is sealed about what they are). I can see that when they have all been published I will need to read them all again in order & close proximity. I do love her style and the interconnection of modern day and the past. The second book was truly wonderful and had me in tears at places but a great ending. (edited) 8y
ephemeralwaltz I can't wait to finish this one!! The 4rth novel isn't getting released until this fall though, ughh! 😔 8y
ephemeralwaltz @Andrew65 I love the connection between past and present as well 😍 tbh, the first novel's story got me hooked the most. 8y

The Shadow Sister | Lucinda Riley

I am currently listening to The Shadow Sister, which is the third book in the excellent Seven Sisters Series by Lucinda Riley. This book is about the very quiet and restrained sister, Star. The back story involves connection with Beatrix Potter. I do love Lucinda Riley's writing and have enjoyed every one of her books I have read - this is my fifth.

Melissa_J Ok, I'm totally going to read one of the many Riley books I have on my TBR pile this year 😊 8y
Andrew65 @Melissa_J The Girl on the Cliff is a great standalone, but then again I also enjoyed The Light Behind the Window. 8y
ephemeralwaltz Can't wait to start this one soon!!!! 8y
