A good police procedure mystery novel. A mystery exploring sexism, racism and class as seen thru the eyes of retired Inspector Wexford as he is called into help.

This 3rd book in historical mystery series set in 18th century Beijing, China, brings all the suspense and imperial palace intrigue. Good detective work delving into all the layers of palace life by Li Du, former imperial librarian. Now a favorite series!

Captain Sam Wyndham and Sergeant Banerjee are two main characters you will want to follow in this new mystery series. Interesting time in Calcutta in 1919 under British Colonial rule. Many conflicting rules and political unrest are obstacles Captain Sam Wyndham and Sergeant Banerjee avoid as they solve a murder in interesting ways.

Scotland Yard‘s Inspector Ian Rutledge‘s character suffers from PTSD, a war wound that has left him with a voice from “Hamish” (a fellow soldier)in his head. A fascinating mystery for Rutledge to solve thereby doing your duty or saving your sanity. ENJOY

Anna Zarides dresses as a eunuch to move freely in Constantinople society as a physician hoping to prove her twin brother‘s innocence for killing a nobleman.
Intrigue and suspense in interaction with Roman Pope, Emperors and threat of another Crusade provide a great read.

I prefer more suspense and excitement in my mystery books so this book was a little disappointing in that respect; however it did offer some twists and turns with a surprise ending.

After reading “Magpie Murders” by Anthony Horowitz and thoroughly enjoyed that book, I was very disappointed in this book. Anyone else feel this way?

HardcoverHearts So disappointed! I felt that it was a pretentious exercise and a huge waste of my time. I will think twice about reading another of his work. 6y
