This is hard to describe. It mixes magic, time-bending, music, history, and a spy thriller set in Prague. It somehow all came together, and I enjoyed it. My first book finished for #20in4 relaxation. @Andrew65

This book was. A. TRIP. And not just because of the copious drug taking. Music and history and time travel (sort of) and love (maybe) and charm to the gills. Secrets and mysteries; sly agents and murder and mayhem. The characters weren‘t 100% likeable, which normally turns me off a book, but they and the story were compelling enough to keep going. Not sure if I want to go for the sequel or not… I want to put this somewhere between so-so and pick…

Another #tbrpile deep dive, keeping me company on my lunch break. I have a strong inkling that this one will be VERY entertaining…I mean, the cover quote alone… “This deliciously madcap novel has it all: murder in Prague, time travel, a misanthropic Beethoven, tantric sex, and a dwarf with attitude.”

Not sure why I waited so long😂

It was different than my usual like but I actually like historical stories so I found it very interesting!

A good one, but I wish there was more magic involved. It was a more of a mystery novel than a supernatural one, but still intriguing. This one qualifies for #bookspin and #screamatblon. Total points for #teamharkness and #scarathlon is 195. I‘ve been super behind in posting, so for #outstandingoctober, I hit both my goals of 24 hours and finished 3 books!

The blurb on the cover by Conan O'Brien sums this up for me. "This deliciously madcap novel has it all: murder in Prague, time travel, a misanthropic Beethoven, tantric sex, and a dwarf with attitude."

This won't be for everyone, but it was wacky enough for me. An easy read but some sexual situations.

I've been reading very slowly lately 🤔 Even this fast paced (and large print) book took me over a week...
Anyway, I did enjoy this one! Not perfect by any means, but a fun sort of mystery/almost action movie plot. It kind of reminded of the Da Vinci Code but more supernatural.

I'm also almost finally finished with Little Women! Only 150 pages left

A romp

If you‘re interested in Beethoven,this book is for you. Otherwise I was annoyed at the use of the word frisson and amazed at how much sex Sarah is getting. Plus I‘ve been to Prague and it never felt like it rested on a portal to hell to me

Picture 1 of my little #bookhaul from today. My husband and I ventured out with the twins for the first time to our local used bookstore. I got the next 3 books after the first in the Thursday Next series and the first in a new series that looks interesting.

Okay. I make this a pick, however, it's not going to be for everyone. If you like Discovery of Witches, this is for you. There's fewer supernatural elements and less romance and more characters, but it's entertaining even in its erudite delivery. The time traveling device was AMAZING. I wish it had been shown more & earlier because it was riveting. I'll read the sequel in hopes there's more to come!

The best thing I can say about this novel was I finished it. But I had to push myself to do so. My overall opinion is this book is a boring, hot mess.

Was going to start this yesterday on my flight from Charlotte back to DC, but I started talking books with my seat mate. So I‘m anxious to dive into this one today after all the good things I‘ve heard about this book.

1. City of Dark Magic (tagged)
2. London...I think I was British in a past life.
3. Europe - where the history comes from.
4. Driving allows me to see more and detour.
5. Gelato is juicier but I won't decline ice cream.

Starting this beauty tonight! Conan O'Brien has a blurb on the cover, so I've got high hopes!💙

448 pages and I just read the last 272 today. Great page turner! Genius time traveling plot device, I only wish it were real. I definitely want to read the sequel!

Decided to read this book because the cover has a quote from Conan O'Brien. I've seen quotes about books from other authors, but no other book that is recommended by Conan.

“Prague is a place where the fabric of time is thin.” This aptly suggests the magic and mystery wrapped up in this wholly entertaining tale. There is mystery, suspense, castles, Prague, a 400 year old dwarf, Beethoven, and sex. What more could you ask for? 😉

Falls somewhere in between the epic urgency of a real page turner and the trudging monotony of a snoozefest. Feels similar to A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness. But with more drugs and Beethoven!

The best book ever? Nope. Entertaining? Certainly. Enough to make me look forward to the second at least.

Was intrigued by the back cover and picked this up at a used bookstore. With promise of magic, mystery, and some musical history, I thought it be a cute, quick read. Just something in between more serious novels. However, the writing is confusing, amateurish, and not believable. Maybe later? Eh. 😒

History and mystery plus magic and fun and naughtiness. I loved this duology.
