I was surprised at how good this book was. Maybe she should‘ve stuck with mysteries instead of writing mediocre vampire/supernatural novels. I enjoy fantasy, and I had such high hopes for the Sookie Stackhouse series. I‘m not sure why I continued to the bitter end. But this book was a complete surprise with its high entertainment value. The whodunnit and why were quite a surprise. I have a good deal of sympathy for them. I‘ll continue this series

CatLass007 My friends, I read Shakespeare‘s Landlord. But for some unknown reason the book I saved for review was Shakespeare‘s Champion. I think I‘ve corrected that mistake. 2y

A solid murder mystery. Lily Bard is a likeable and extremely sympathetic quiet and reclusive cleaner who finds herself embroiled in a murder mystery.

Starting on the Lily Bard Mystery series by Charlaine Harris. Not as entertaining as Aurora Teagarden, but still expecting the characters to become weirdly endearing as the series moves forward. #23-2022

PerksOfBeingABookworm This also happens to me every time I‘m camping! It‘s like the sun decides to suddenly leave the sky. It‘s always when I‘m right in the middle of a good part in the book, too 😂 4y

TheAromaofBooks When I was around 9 or 10 we were on family vacation/camping during my birthday, which is October 20. My parents decided I couldn't open my birthday gifts until the TIME I was born - 7:20PM... they kind of forgot it would also be dark! 😂 4y

I feel like a lot of people hate on Charlaine Harris. But I really do love her books. Sometimes we all need a quick read, and she provides that. Living in a smaller town, with quite the variety of residents, her books are like a conversation with an old friend.

Entertaining and exciting with a kick-ass housecleaner as the heroine. I think I've found a new series!

Well-written, and I liked the main character. I didn't know who did it until they revealed it because it didn't really make sense until the end. I'm not sure how I feel about that bit.

Day 28 #FallIntoBooks #ThisShouldBeATVSeries 3 book series I would love to see on TV-Charley Davidson (P.I./Grim Reaper) & while 3 of her book series have been adapted, I'd love to see Charlaine Harris's Lily Bard (house cleaner/investigator) & Harper Connelly (sees last location/memories of dead people) series on TV. Some characters in the Midnight, Texas series are from these books. Harper Connelly has been optioned before but never done.📚📺👍

MinDea Ooohhhh.. what is Shakespear's landlord about?!? 7y
DebinHawaii @MinDea It's set in a small town, (Shakespeare, Ark) where the lead character Lily Bard is hiding out from her past & working as housekeeper & gets involved in investigating murders. It's like a much darker cozy in a way. 7y
MinDea Ok! That sounds interesting! 7y

Today's author spotlight: Charlaine Harris (Schulz)! The 65-year-old Mississippi native lives in Texas now after having lived in Arkansas. She's a member of the Mystery Writers of America, the American Crime Writers League, Sisters In Crime, and the Arkansas Mystery Writers Alliance. She's a former weightlifter and karate student. Her Southern Vampire Mysteries series was adapted into "True Blood". #AuthorPotpourri #TheMoreYouKnow

Books4Ever I really enjoy her writing 😊 7y

Since I badmouthed Charlaine's Sookie Stackhouse series in my last post, I have to say how much I loved her Lily Bard series, set in Shakespeare, Arkansas. This was the first thing I read by her, and cried when her publisher didn't renew her contract for the series. If you love strong females, this is for you. #smalltown #rockinmay

JoRead Good to know. Based on the Stackhouse series I had decided not to read anything by her 😉😊 8y
Cinfhen That's nice to show some author love - I'm sure all is forgiven now 😉💛 8y
mrp27 Sookie was my first Harris book and it was so different from what I usually read that I loved it, the first few anyway. I haven't read anything else by her but I have Midnight Crossover on my tbr and now I'll have to check this one out! 8y

Book haul from yesterday with @Blueberry 😊 The Ken Follett books are for my collection. The Key to Rebecca I already own, but this copy is the size I collect (not sure why, just happened that way). I was super happy to find The Modigliani Scandal; it was one of the few I've been unable to find over the years (since I only buy them from used book stores)! I'm also trying to collect all the original hardcovers of A Series of Unfortunate Events!

Another great female character from Charlaine Harris. She created a strong survivor trying to have a normal, invisible life in a small town, while still adding romance and mystery. Next up, two Litsy stacks I got from the library. #shakespearslandlord #charlaineharris #yougogirl

Back when I read a lot of cozy mysteries, two of my favorite series had strong female main characters. The first was the Lily Bard series by Charlaine Harris. I remember crying when she announced the publisher hadn't renewed her contract for the series. The second was the Jesse Arnold series by Sue Henry. Set in Alaska, Jesse bred and ran sled dogs. Last I heard, Sue was in failing health. 😞#unforgettablewomen #Booktober

My favorite series is anything by Charlaine Harris. Her books are easy to pick up and they are such a captivating story that is an immediate descent into a new place when you need a quick escape. The Lily Bard series is my favorite of hers. Mostly because it's set in my state and its such a darker story. My close second favorite is Aurora Teagarden. And I happen to have a couple of signed Sookie Stackhouse books as well. 😊 #24in48 #readathon

Suzze Oh! I adore her Shakespeare series! I remember when she said her publisher was ending it, I cried. Boy, that was a long time ago. Way, way before her True Blood series. 8y
