Silver Bay (Bound for Schools & Libraries)
Silver Bay (Bound for Schools & Libraries) | Jojo Moyes
From the New York Times bestselling author of Me Before You and One Plus One, in an earlier work available in the U.S. for the first time, a surprising and moving romance set in an old-fashioned seaside town on the verge of unwelcome change Liza McCullen will never fully escape her past. But the unspoiled beaches and tight-knit community of Silver Bay offer the freedom and safety she craves--if not for herself, then for her young daughter, Hannah. That is, until Mike Dormer arrives as a guest in her aunt's hotel. The mild-mannered Englishman with his too-smart clothes and distracting eyes could destroy everything Liza has worked so hard to protect: not only the family business and the bay that harbors her beloved whales, but also her conviction that she will never love--never deserve to love--again. For his part, Mike Dormer is expecting just another business deal--an easy job kick-starting a resort in a small seaside town ripe for development. But he finds that he doesn't quite know what to make of the eccentric inhabitants of the ramshackle Silver Bay Hotel, especially not enigmatic Liza McCullen, and their claim to the surrounding waters. As the development begins to take on a momentum of its own, Mike's and Liza's worlds collide in this hugely affecting and irresistible tale full of Jojo Moyes's signature humor and generosity.

My partner really enjoys reading JoJo Moyes novels which prompted me to try one of JoJo's books myself. I can't say that I was grasped by the story from page one, but as the book continued I realised that I was actually enjoying it. Yes, it was about Dolphins, Whales sleepy hideaway coves and impending change but also about tradegy, families and relationships. Even the most cold hearted reader will be left with a warm feeling inside.

Enjoyed this in the end. Took a while to get into, but after establishing characters, I became a big fan!

One of my favorite things about Jojo Moyes is the devotions she has toward her characters. By the end of the novel, I feel as though I know the characters and I often miss them when I close those book for good. For this novel, I was ready for it to come to an end. I got the answers I needed and that was all. I didn‘t hate the book, but I didn‘t love it either.

How did I get a puppy that eats books? He could have at least eaten the beginning that I‘ve already read, not the last few pages. Jerk.

PerksOfBeingABookworm My dog shredded a couple books about a month ago. It's definitely not a fun surprise to walk in to. Julep (my dog) doesn't usually do that. Several people said she was probably intellectually bored. We got her a couple puzzle food toys and so far it's been a successful solution. 7y
jfalkens That stinks 😢😭 7y
Betty I try to keep my books (especially the library ones) up out of reach. Puppy is so destructive! 7y

Bookartbookmarks @PerksOfBeingABookworm he was a puppy training class all day. I think he‘s teething. 7y
Bookartbookmarks @Betty between the kids and the pup, I‘ve had to return a couple of library books that were a little destroyed. :/ 7y
SassyBookworm I found that my pup had chewed one of my good shoes when I came to bed tonight 😡 I was so mad at that lil stinker! Apparently he had snuck it while the hubs was asleep! So sorry for the loss of your book! 7y

Trying to read at the library, but the little one keeps running away. I love Moyes writing. It seems to flow off the page.

wrenaymuhree I‘m a big fan of Motes, too! Have you read The Girl You Left Behind or 7y
Bookartbookmarks @wrenaymuhree I haven‘t read either. I just bought The Girl You Left Behind. Excited to read it. 7y

I‘ve been buying WAY too many books lately. But, hey, my local bookstore is closing and they have such good deals. Going on a weekend getaway with the hubs. I plan on sitting down for two days straight reading. Ahhhh!! The good life!

Back to my massive tbr list for today's prompt...

Iron Gold has a cover and a release date in January 2018 and I am super excited about that. I loved the Red Rising series, and I'm looking forward to more books set in that world. 😃

Silver Bay has been on my kindle for a loooong time. I keep passing it by for some reason. If you've read it, what did you think? 🤔

#GoldAndSilver #fallintobooks

Ms_T I've read Silver Bay but it doesn't compare to Me Before You. It's just a bit....twee 😳 7y
sprainedbrain @Ms_T that's what I was afraid of. 😂 7y

I didn't enjoy it quite as much as Me Before You. I liked the characters but life took over as I was reading this one and it got stuck on my nightstand for a while... overall an okay read.

I am having such a hard time getting into this book. It came pretty highly recommended but the switching around between points of view isn't really working for me... I'm going to keep working at it but we'll see.

I've read 3 other Jojo Moyes books and enjoyed them. This was pretty dreadful. Cheesy, predictable, waaaay too long, and a thoroughly ridiculous plot. I listened to the audio on a long road trip, and the narrators were good. Otherwise I would have bailed.

I don't believe in guilty pleasures; I like what I like and that's good enough. But if you're looking for well-written, literary romance novels you won't be embarrassed to be seen with on the train or bus, Jojo Moyes is the author for you. Me Before You is fine, but I like her other books better.
