Everything Store: Jeff Bezos and the Age of Amazon
Everything Store: Jeff Bezos and the Age of Amazon | Brad Stone
"An immersive play-by-play of the company's ascent.... It's hard to imagine a better retelling of the Amazon origin story." -- Laura Bennett, New Republic Amazon.com's visionary founder, Jeff Bezos, wasn't content with being a bookseller. He wanted Amazon to become the everything store, offering limitless selection and seductive convenience at disruptively low prices. To do so, he developed a corporate culture of relentless ambition and secrecy that's never been cracked. Until now. Brad Stone enjoyed unprecedented access to current and former Amazon employees and Bezos family members, and his book is the first in-depth, fly-on-the-wall account of life at Amazon. The Everything Store is the book that the business world can't stop talking about, the revealing, definitive biography of the company that placed one of the first and largest bets on the Internet and forever changed the way we shop and read.

I found the narration of this quite well paced and its focus on Amazon.com right from initiation to the behemoth it is now.

Published in 2013 but ever so relevant. Brad Stone narrates the rise of Amazon in such an insightful and organized way. This page turner leaves no stone unturned and unpacks Jeff Bezos‘s story — very well researched. I enjoyed this read.

This is a very comprehensive and insightful book about Amazon, it covers it's origin, early beginnings, struggles, evolving business models, the failed partnerships they tried to make, media scrutiny, their ferociousness when trying to achieve something, etc. There is just so much in this book, you will not feel a need to read anything else about Amazon. Totally recommend it.

As the user of the Amazon platform, I was always curious who stand under all that. 😃
It is a nice reading. Definitely not a magic wand or another book on how to become successful from the very start 😂 but more explanatory on a set of values and drivers of the success.

#NoFemmeber #NonFictionNovember #Amazon used to mean jungle now the word association is the greatest website ever!!!! I should probably read this for #booked2019 #MyHappyPlace 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗

Megabooks I‘m obsessed with Amazon too! 6y
Chrissyreadit What did you buy? 6y
Cinfhen I only purchased 2 books on Cyber Monday @Chrissyreadit but I ordered a bunch of household items that I can‘t find in Israel😬 I have friends and family visiting next month so they‘ll be my delivery service 🤗🤗🤗 I bought STEPHEN FLORIDA & 6y

Cinfhen And I did buy a bunch of #KindleDeals @Chrissyreadit @Megabooks 🙄🤫 6y
Megabooks I‘ll keep it quiet. I ordered a new iPad cover even though my old one was fine. I was just tired of looking at the other one 🤫 6y
Cinfhen Hahahahaha @Megabooks there‘s always something you can find on Amazon😜 6y
TrishB I feel I shouldn‘t love Amazon, but I confess I do 🤷‍♀️ 6y
Cinfhen I know what you mean @TrishB Amazon is killing the mom&pop stores 😭😭😭 6y
Cinfhen BTW: do u want to share the new playlist @TrishB 🥰😘 6y
TrishB Was just about to message you about that! I shall do 😁 6y
SaturnDoo 😂I think I might be the only one who rarely shops on Amazon. 😂 6y
Billypar Lol- yes, great minds indeed! Telling that we now think of the business before the actual Amazon 😂 6y
Suet624 I would suggest reading Nomadland. I didn‘t like or use Amazon before but this book sealed the deal. 6y
Cinfhen I just added the book @Suet624 thanks for the recommendation 💙 6y

#Amazon #NoFemmeber I'm curious about everyone's feelings on buying books on Amazon. Selection and deals too good to pass up, or do you stick to stores & libraries? I don't buy any books on Amazon, but not for high-minded reasons: as a slower reader, it means waiting longer before my next bookstore visit. I do buy music on Amazon and my sole Cyber Monday purchase was a $6 M.I.A. album. Would love to see her documentary, but it's a limited release.

vivastory I use Amazon more than I care to admit. Have you seen the recent Verge article "Amazon's Holiday Commercial Remixed is Like a Black Mirror Episode"? The video is pretty funny, but also disturbing 6y
BarbaraBB I don‘t use Amazon anymore since they skipped free shipping when buying above a certain amount (I don‘t remember what that amount was exactly). Until then I bought a lot of books at Amazon, nowadays I am a big fan of BookDepository which has a standard free delivery, also when buying just one book. 6y
Cinfhen Hahahahaha #GreatMinds 6y

Cinfhen And I ❤️Amazon but not sooooo much for books, #BookOutlet & #BookDepository have much better pricing although #BookDepository is owned by Amazon @BarbaraBB 6y
BarbaraBB @Cinfhen Is it? I didn‘t know! I love (and need!) the free shipping. I checked out BookOutlet once but remember that it was too expensive for me as well. 6y
Cinfhen I agree, it‘s all about the free shipping and NO company beats #BookDepository @BarbaraBB they are the BEST!!! And who doesn‘t love a free bookmark ❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️ 6y
Kalalalatja I used to love Amazon as well, but got tired of the shipping costs and addition of VAT to the price at check out. Just add VAT when I put it in the bag, so I know how much it is 🙄 I use BookDepository.com and a Danish site called Saxo.com for my online book shopping, and they are both great! 6y
AnneCecilie I‘ve seen the documentary and it‘s really good. I hadn‘t heard about her before, but the documentary had me thinking. 6y
Centique I use Book Depository a tonne! @Cinfhen @Billypar And although I can understand why Amazon can seem a scary giant in the US, it has been a godsend here. My local book chain (pre Amazon) was not interested in ordering in backlist titles for me at any price - so phooey to them, Amazon gets my money! 6y
TrishB Amazon is quick and cheaper for most things I look at. I do shop around books wise, but a lot of the time come back to Amazon anyway. 6y
Amiable I don't buy books on Amazon. Ever. I shop at my local stores (one of which, thankfully, is an excellent used bookstore with a vast selection). If I can't wait for a book to come out in paperback (my preference, for cost reasons) I go to the library and request it. 6y
Billypar @vivastory I checked out the video, and completely agree: both hilarious and freaky! 😂😬 6y
Billypar @BarbaraBB @Cinfhen I've seen BookDepository mentions here, but never tried it- good to know! The Strand does pretty well even when I'm looking for a specific backlist title, but if I didn't have that option I would probably buy online occasionally. 6y
Billypar @Kalalalatja Ugh- agreed better to know in advance 😒 Glad there are other options! 6y
Billypar @AnneCecilie I love her music but don't know much about her life- sounds like she's led an interesting one to say the least! 6y
Liz_M @BarbaraBB Of you are patient, Better World Books ships free anywhere in the world. It gets a lot of decommissioned books from libraries and has been a source for some of the harder to find 1001 titles for me. They also donate one book to a good cause for every book purchased. But the shipping is slow. 6y
Billypar @Centique Oh, that's so weird- I always thought ordering if out of stock was just a given. Well clearly their loss then! 6y
batsy I don't like to, but when it comes to Kindle deals I do use Amazon. And affordability is a big part of my reading life. No well stocked library system here and books are expensive. Even paperbacks. A very expensive habit, unless we get the discount stores or luck out with used books, etc. 😕 6y
LibrarianRyan I rarely buy books on Amazon. I only buy there if I can‘t get it else where. It‘s less than once a year. They do not do well with libraries and have fought them for years. 6y
DoonTheGoon I NEVER shop for anything on Amazon. It's literally killing small businesses. I have a number of bookseller friends who work long and hard to keep their indie bookstores afloat... and I simply cannot support a "big bad" like Amazon. This is a hot-button issue for me. 6y
Billypar @TrishB The side by side price comparison does make it tough to resist! I can find most of what I look for at used book shops, which makes it a little better, but I also read more backlist than new releases. 6y
Billypar @Amiable Yeah, I'm with you: used book shops and Overdrive are my usual go-tos! I feel lucky to have that access though- many a book desert out there 🏜️ 6y
jveezer Personally I don‘t purchase anything from Amazon as I vote with my $$ and think they are an example of predatory capitalism gone wild. I use Powells (great new and used selection and free shipping at $50)mostly for books and Amoeba (great new and used selection and free shipping) for music. Small businesses like mine. 6y
BarbaraBB @Liz_M Thank you so much for mentioning this website, I didn‘t know it but am always looking for #1001books, the shipping time is no problem at all! 😘 6y
Billypar @Liz_M This sounds great: thanks for the recommendation. If I ever do have the need to find something online, this would work well- wait time is rarely an issue for books- they usually have to put their time in on my TBR shelf before I crack them open anyway 😀 6y
JillR For myself I ask for books as gifts or buy pre-loved so rarely buy a new book for myself. I do however buy books as gifts for most people I buy for at Christmas and birthdays and unfortunately my choice of seller usually comes down to price and availability, and therefore most often Amazon. I do always check out Wordery, Book Depository and The Book People first though and use them if I can :) (edited) 6y
Leftcoastzen You all know Book Depository has been owned by Amazon since 2011 ,right? 6y
Billypar @batsy If I e-read I would definitely use Amazon. I feel like new books are a treat, but used and Overdrive are my main sources. Though for bookshops that aren't The Strand, it's rare you can go in with a list and come out with all you want. 6y
Billypar @LibrarianRyan @DoonTheGoon It is scary when you step back and consider how thoroughly dominant they've become and what it means for small businesses & libraries now and in the future. 6y
LibrarianRyan @Billypar it really is. Plus they act as an indie publisher for self published or micro publishers but they construct use and set such hamstrung policies. Ughhhhhh 6y
Billypar @jveezer That's a good policy to have. I need to check out Amoeba- I'd love an alternative now that record stores are so hard to come by (as sad as that is to contemplate). I hope to make it to Powell's one day! 6y
DoonTheGoon @LibrarianRyan Agreed - their self-publishing "platform" is so restrictive and really shackles authors from being able to publish their book widely and in a way that is easy for booksellers to stock. It's scary and sad!!! 6y
LibrarianRyan @DoonTheGoon there are some great books by some great authors that you can ONLY get on amazon and it‘s not because the author wants it that way but because the amazon contract is sooo tight and long. 🤢 6y
DoonTheGoon @LibrarianRyan 😣😣😣 6y
Billypar @JillR Agreed- not easy to avoid! I'm sure I'd use it if I didn't have as many alternatives as I do. I need to check out those others you mentioned. Though, @Leftcoastzen you're right- @Cinfhen pointed that out about BookDepository. Luckily when I need an online refuge, I just hang out on Goodreads....d'oh! 😫 6y
Leftcoastzen You will love Powell‘s!I love Strand. I lived thru Amazon, B&N, and Borders as they decimated the indie bookstores.I use Amazon rarely. To add to the mess , why are they giving tax breaks to Bezos ,rich man ,rich company that will drive the working class out of Long Island City? Amazon treats warehouse workers poorly. To lessen the blow ,people can order thru Amazon smile, pick a charity, and give back a little when you buy. 6y
Leftcoastzen Buy local if you can. More money stays in your community,we want stores in our towns don‘t we? Not just coffee shops , Banks , and Nail salons right?Even tho at one time B&N was the enemy, but if they fail imagine what it would do to the publishing industry? 6y
Billypar @Leftcoastzen So many good points: I was so disappointed to hear my city 'won' the distinction of having Amazon move in and force lifelong residents of yet another neighborhood to find somewhere else to live. It's amazing just how many big- retail businesses have become entrenched in communities even pre-Amazon. I would love to think that if B&N folded, indies would suddenly spring up in its place, but I don't think it works that way... 6y
Billypar @Leftcoastzen Though on the positive side, it is heartening to see many indie book stores that already exist holding their own and engaging with their communities. Craft breweries seem like another success story in that vein. 6y
Leftcoastzen It‘s a process . Some people really get it about small business, but if you are out there in the middle of nowhere , what a blessing ordering from Amazon can be.I know you liked Changing Hands, they started in the 70s in Tempe & have worked really hard to generate loyalty thru events and signings.I could rage about the Office Depot/Staples thing too. They ran small office supply stores out of biz.Yet any small store back then had 1000s more items! 6y
Leftcoastzen Phil‘s Stationery on 47th NYC ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ 6y
Billypar @Leftcoastzen Yup- it's the predatory stuff that's the worst. Amazon opened some brick and mortar bookshops in tourist areas that have no indies anywhere close. If it gets people to buy books instead of the usual stuff, I'm all for it. Just stay away from the good places. If Amazon were stupid enough to open a storefront next to Changing Hands, I hope there'd be some protests! 6y
Aimeesue To be honest, I get most of my books from my book sorting volunteer gig (for an annual book sale,) then I read and return them. Then I try the library, mostly ebooks, because its easier. I collect Folio editions and Slightly Foxed reprints, which I get used through Abe, so they mostly come from small British bookshops. I collect Persephone books, but those I buy directly from Persephone. 6y
Billypar @Aimeesue Sounds like you have your book buying system down to a science! What a great volunteer job to have, and the Folio and Persephone collections must look gorgeous. My favorite book acquisition system is dragging my friends and loved ones to a town because it has a bookstore I want to visit 😀 6y
Aimeesue @Billypar It‘s taken many, many years, and many military moves that forced some hard choices to get to a workable system. If I want to be able to walk safely around my house, there is, apparently, such a thing as “too many books.” Gotta limit myself to keeping those I truly love. 😄 But I‘m always up for going to a great local bookstore! 6y
Billypar @Aimeesue Ha- I like the idea of the limit where you have too many books being when you are no longer safe walking through your home 😂 6y

An in-depth and riveting biography of Jeff Bezos and how he founded Amazon with a vision of growing it into “the everything store” where consumers could buy, well, everything. Not entirely complimentary – I wouldn‘t want to work for Bezos. Before reading this, I was not a fan of Amazon – and after reading it, I‘m still not a fan. But I can grudgingly respect Bezos‘ work ethic in making his vision into reality. 3.5 stars

Somehow Amazon managed to get Prime Day mentioned on every news cast for the last couple days:

1) Maybe spend less time using the news as free advertising? They have more important things to cover.

2) After all that, at least send me an email this morning with some great book sales🤷‍♀️🙄

#FirstWorldProblems #BookishComplaints

Suet624 I‘ve never stepped foot in a Walmart and won‘t order on Amazon. They are horrible companies. Rant over. I apologize. 6y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Suet624 I wish I had enough choices to make that an option....sadly in some places in rural America, that‘s all there is. If I want a book, it‘s those too, or Library, secondhand on eBay thriftbooks, even the next big chain store bookstore is over an hr drive away. 6y
Suet624 I understand. Powell‘s is a good choice too. They have lots of discounted books. 6y

Hey fellow parent/family Littens! Anyone else heard that Amazon is launching a book subscription box for kids? I got an email from them inviting me to try it out a couple of days ago (I think it may be still in beta testing? They said for now you had to be invited by them). I decided, “Why not?” Plus, 22.99 seemed reasonable for 4 brand new board books. You can choose from every 1, 2 or 3 mos delivery. You also get to pick all your books ahead ⬇️

asiriusreader Of time, which is nice if you‘re worried about duplicates. It arrived today and I just signed up on Wed. Only negative is you just get the books, no cute card or wrapping or surprise. Still looking forward to regular with my 3 month old daughter. I‘m curious—any fellow parents try out any other kid subscription book boxes? I just saw an ad on Instagram today for one called Literati. Let me know if you have...I may check out others! #raisingreaders 7y
Suet624 I have no other suggestions but I would encourage you not to support Amazon. 7y
MelissaSue81 Do they have options for older kids? 7y
asiriusreader @Suet624 thank you for your opinion. I know Amazon seems to be taking over the world, but I do support independent booksellers as well. I am an equal opportunity book buyer. 😉 7y
asiriusreader @MelissaSue81 yes!! I didn‘t look super close, but they have a 0-2 box, a 3-5 yo box, and a 5 to 9 (?) book box...worth exploring! 7y

Happy NEW YEAR everyone!!! January 1st is special for so many reasons- new year, new botm selections and if you‘re a prime member you could pick your “first” #AmazonFirstReads book today!

“It‘s a free/included service for prime members, get a prerelease for your kindle or buy the hardcover for $9.99” (may the battle for books begin).

Amazon is definitely trying to live up to their motto of being the everything store... from A —> Z

Curse you Amazon! This is the third order in less than a week that you've failed to deliver on time AND you can't even give me a revised delivery date. Could be tomorrow. Might not be until Thursday. I am not amused. I don't want your apologies. I want my books!

Aseleener This happened to us recently too. The first time was not Amazon's fault and they refunded us when it became clear the item was never going to arrive (3rd party seller). The 2nd time was Prime--no idea why it was late but we did eventually get it. I think if you call and complain they will give you some kind of credit. 7y

Who has Kindle unlimited? Is the deal worth it? It's like $7/month for 6 months or closer to $6/month for a year. Help!!

JoeStalksBeck I've had it forever. It's a great deal either way! Tons of books you can check out to read or listen to. I just got all my Ania Ahlborn books on there free to read! Yay! I love it❤️ 7y
goodbyefrancie If you have a library card, #overdrive is good (and free). You can get e-books and audio. The kindle unlimited is tempting for me, too...but I'm a tightwad. 💰💰 7y
heikemarie @goodbyefrancie I definitely am an Overdrive power user! I currently have a full hold list and I commandeered my husband's as well. The thing I don't like are the super long waits for new releases. I also use axis360 through my library! @JoeStalksBeck can you speak to the variety, popularity, or newness of the selections? The kindle prime stuff is old or obscure so trying to gauge if it will have books I want. :) 7y
JoeStalksBeck I have found books on there to read or listen to for free that I could not find anywhere else . Overall, the books depend on popularity as to if they are free. Newer ones take a year or so come thru. But I have found some amazing authors in the thriller/horror/ suspense section that I'd never heard of and ended up loving. If you search it with all its available links and genres and subcategories you will always find something to read 7y

An interesting and sad look into the real life amazon book store that recently opened in Chicago: http://www.chicagotribune.com/entertainment/ct-amazon-store-chicago-rev-ent-0403...

It's hard to imagine a bookstore with such little ❤️! Would you visit it? What's your favorite indie where you live and your favorite thing about it?

I was in the neighborhood a few days ago & couldn't resist the urge to take a peak inside one of Amazon's bookstores. It was VERY crowded, which made the experience more overwhelming than anything else. The shelves were well stocked, but I didn't get a good feel for the store since I spent more time battling crowds than browsing. I might visit again, but won't go out of my way to do so. All that being said, of course I bought a couple of books. 😊

L_auren It was similar when I went opening weekend! Looking forward to going back once the madness has died down 8y
MidnightBookGirl Local Independent Bookstores are better... of course, I work at one, so I'm biased. And I would totally go to an Amazon bookstore, but crowds are not my thing. The older I get, the less I like them. But it's great that physical book sales are on the rise! 8y
megt @L_auren I expected it to be a little crowded, but not as crowded as it was! I'm curious to see how they do long term and if the store continues to be that busy. 8y
See All 11 Comments
megt @MidnightBookGirl I love my local indie! I'm much more likely to shop there or at a library book sale for my physical books. Crowds are also not my thing. If I ever go back, I'll probably take a peek inside to gauge the crowd size before committing to going in to browse. 8y
asiriusreader Agreed @L_auren and @megt about the crowds! I also checked it out opening weekend and loved the store, but the crowds really detracted from my enjoyment. Hope it eventually settles down enough to go back every once in a while! 8y
Megaled I want to go to there. When it's less crazy. It intrigues me! 8y
megt @asiriusreader I'd definitely like to visit again when they aren't busy to get a better feel for the store. I don't think it's one I'll frequent on a regular basis, but I'm intrigued to see how the concept evolves over time. 8y
megt @Megaled we'll take a field trip! I think it would be interesting to browse when it's not crowded. I don't think it has the same atmosphere as some of our other book shopping haunts, but I guess that's part of the point. 😊 8y

#bookishpetpeeves Lately my biggest bookish peeve is with Amazon and their e-book pricing. I'm sure there is an explanation behind it like publishers set the pricing, etc. but I find it ridiculous when the e-book costs more than the physical version, even the hardcover! #wtfamazon #marchintoreading

LauraBeth I don't understand the method to their madness either! 8y
Marchpane I think it's just because they have more competition when it comes to print books. Kindle users are pretty well locked in to buying from amazon. But with print books, you can shop around, therefore discounting makes more sense as a strategy. 8y
Ashley_Nicoletto 🙌🏼 yes. Yes. Yes. The ebook pricing is ridiculous. 8y
Suetara It's my understanding that the publishers set the pricing. But, I agree that the e-book prices are ridiculous. 8y
Velvetsun This drives me crazy! Part of the reason i got a kindle in the first place was because the books would be cheaper than physical copies. Ugh. 8y

The best way to spend a Saturday? Browsing (and buying, obvi!) at the new Amazon Books nearby!! I love my local indie book stores, of course...but who among us will say no to a new bookstore of any sort?! I think they did an amazing job with the set up and feel- I took a bunch of shots to give you all a sense. Loved the short customer review and avg. rating for each book, and the Goodreads tie-in displays. #booknerdparadise #amazonbooks

asiriusreader Also, please forgive the terrible shot of the interior of the 'store as a whole'...my height and the wall-to-wall people prohibited a good shot. I did the best I could! Opening weekend, so it was packed! 8y
kspenmoll In Seattle? 8y
asiriusreader @kspenmoll no, they just opened a new one outside of Boston this week (in Dedham MA). I'm in love! 8y

kspenmoll Thanks- maybe a stop in Dedham now when I visit my nieces in Boston! 8y
asiriusreader @kspenmoll absolutely--make it part of your next trip! 👍🏻 8y
Lmstraubie I will have to check this out next time I visit my son! 8y
asiriusreader @Lmstraubie yes, definitely check it out!! 8y
Tadkins Looks like the one I visited in Seattle in January. I wish I could have spent more time there and of course buy some books😕 (edited) 8y
MyNamesParadise Which store is this? If I went in there I'd never leave. Are the prices list price or the Amazon price? 8y
asiriusreader @tadkins yeah, I was wondering if the few across the country are all pretty much the same style/layout. Can't wait to go back when it's less crowded! 8y
asiriusreader @MyNamesParadise it's an Amazon Books--they're trying out the concept of brick-and-mortar stores for just books (and kindles too). They have an ingenious pricing policy--if you are a Prime member already, you pay the Amazon price. And if not, you pay list price...good incentive to go Prime if you hadn't already. Yes, it's definitely a book lover's dream store! 8y
L_auren Ahhhh I just left this very store!!!!! 8y
asiriusreader @L_auren it's so exciting, right!!? Love having one so close. 👍🏻 8y
L_auren @asiriusreader Yes!! It's only the fourth one in the country! 8y
MyNamesParadise @asiriusreader I'm Prime!! Oh cool!! Where is that one? 8y
Jaimelire Bookstore on a Saturday is heaven! 8y
asiriusreader @Jaimelire amen to that! One of my favorite weekend activities. 8y

The book itself is incredibly well-written, and diligently researched, but I can't recommend it because it's honestly too depressing. Sure: it is a through portrait of winner-take-all hypercapitalist ambition, if that is what moves you, but for the rest of us it's kind of horrifying to realize just how much control one entity can gain in 20 years, & how deliberate my dependence on Amazon is. 😱x1000. Did anybody have a different takeaway?

My mom and I are both huge readers, but we both mainly use the library (plus our kindles), so there are rarely books under the tree. BUT I have a very generous uncle who gets me an insane Amazon gift card for all my book buying needs!! 😍😍😍😍🎄🎄 Merry Christmas everyone!!!

Here's a peek of the tree I assembled after the house move-in. It's very plain right now because I couldn't find the ornament hooks. The only ornament on the tree now is the orange Amazon mascot creature thing my husband received from his company (Amazon).

I know I've written about this before, but my friend's fantasy book The Path of Man is now free on Amazon for a few weeks! Earlier today it hit #18 in "Metaphysical and Visionary" ebooks and #41 in Fantasy Epics! Pick it up now

I'm planning to add an e-reader (probably a Kindle) to my Christmas wishlist this year, but I'm not sure which to choose. I've been reading from my iPhone for years now and it's still giving me headaches! Is the Paperwhite as amazing as it sounds? Anyone have experience or opinions?

Well-ReadNeck I borrowed a paper white to try, but preferred the regular kindle because there is no backlighting at all. 8y
melbeautyandbooks I haven't used the paperwhite. I did have a second generation kindle for many years. I traded it in last year for the kindle voyage. I love it. I read 95% of my books on my kindle. The remaining 5% are audiobooks or print books I get from giveaways. The lighting on the kindle voyage is nothing like a tablet or smartphone. It is not bright at all. 8y
DGRachel I have a Kindle Touch, Paperwhite, and last year's Fire. The Touch is best for reading outside because there is no backlight at all, so it's the most like reading print. The Paperwhite does have a light, and while it is not as bad as a phone or tablet, it is still a blue light. The Fire has a blue light filter, so it's now my go-to for reading in bed. 8y

saresmoore @Well-ReadNeck @melbeautyandbooks @DGRachel Thank you for your helpful insights! 8y
sprainedbrain I recently upgraded from my Fire HD to the Voyage... I didn't use the Fire for anything but reading, and I wanted a dedicated e-reader. I love my Voyage! 8y
saresmoore @sprainedbrain I am tempted by the Voyage! Do you find it is good for sunny day reading? Also, how is the adaptive lighting—any eye strain for night reading? So many questions! Ha! (Sorry.) 8y
sprainedbrain @saresmoore I have read outside in full sun with it and there was no glare... huge change from what I was used to! I love the way the backlight automatically adjusts based on where I am. I read in the dark a lot and have had no eye strain issues. The picture is very crisp and really seems like reading a paper book. I love it! 8y
saresmoore @sprainedbrain Thank you! I think I'll go for the Voyage! :) 8y

Not finished yet, but it's interesting to read about the tough working conditions inside Amazon from the book. Doesn't sound like the nyt expose should have been much of a surprise.

jeff Based on what you're reading, why do people stay there? Challenging projects, learning, resume boost, like your peers but not the system, comp? 9y
