Photo on left is us 11 years ago, though currently his memories of us range between none and occasional haziness. We have essentially started over but in a beautiful way. At his living facility yesterday the activity director brought in fresh flowers/accessories and he made me a valentine bouquet 🩷🌹❤️

I chose this for #FoodandLit as we are visiting Botswana. I thoroughly enjoyed this & the character of Precious Ramotswe. I‘m happy there are so many books in this series and I think I‘ll try the next one on audio. It‘s not a murder mystery but would very much fit the vibe of cozy mysteries so I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys those. And I‘m very excited to check out the show on HBO! 5⭐️🇧🇼

I saw this book described as “calm” and I think that is a good description. It is not a book with one mystery but several. The second book is available on audio via Hoopla. I liked this first one enough to give the second one a try.

Side note: my book club picks good books 😁

My book club picked this one for July. The meeting is Thursday so I need to stop dillydallying. I‘m a little less than half done and really liking it. Don‘t know why it has taken me so long to finally read this one.

Gave this one a shot in the overnight hours when I couldn‘t sleep 🎧📖 Sadly, I couldn‘t get into it & had to bail🙁

I loved this just as much the second time around! Peaceful, calming, exactly the vibes I wanted to start off 2023 with! The mysteries themselves are very light compared to the thrillers I normally read, but the solving of them is always clever and entertaining. And this also includes fantastic descriptions of African landscapes. 😊💙

59% through my first re-read of the year. 😊 I originally read this in 2014 and I loved the peaceful, calming vibes. (Also loved the HBO series.)

I picked this up when I couldn‘t concentrate…and found it too slow. But then I kept coming back to it whenever everything else seemed to difficult. And it provided an enjoyable escape every time. So success. It‘s also thoughtful in its sort of simple life wisdom. I‘m not sure I‘ll pursue more books from the series, but I‘m glad I met Mma Ramotswe and read this one.

I‘m struggling mentally with covid rebound. I have all this dead time and I‘m just not wanting to concentrate. I spun my isolation chair around looking for the easiest possible book to read and grabbed this. 35 pages in its (1) really nicely written but also (2) my brain won‘t settle in. ☹️ Still I think I‘ll keep trying.

I didn‘t really like this one. Nothing really stood out as bad…just not for me I guess. I did like Mma Ramotswe.

This book was recommended to me by my mom and I‘m so glad I didn‘t miss out on it. It‘s an entertaining, first in a series novel about a very charming and extremely clever African woman that starts a detective agency in Botswana. Fans of Agatha Christie, Nancy Drew and cozy reads should check it out if they haven‘t already — I‘m a little late to the party 😅

I recently won the latest installment in the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency Series (#21), so I decided to read the number one of the series.

I knew that it would be a comfort read for me, and I was 100% right. I remember seeing some episodes a while back, so I watched the first episode again on YouTube, and I must admit preferring the book.
Now that I have the last installment, I'm looking forward to reading the whole series, a book at a time.

Why did it take me so long to get around to reading this book. It‘s a delight - not wholly what I was expecting (despite the book being 22 years old, I had managed to avoid any spoilers regarding Mma Ramotswe‘s backstory) and probably all the better for that. I love Mma Ramotswe‘s love for her country, I love the descriptions of Botswana, I love the characters. So that‘s another 20 books added to the TBR pile...

I am posting one book per day from my extensive to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it, I just do. Some will be old, some will be new. Don‘t judge me - I have a lot of books. Join the fun if you want.

This book was recommended by a librarian so I gave it a shot, besides the cheesy title. So glad I did! I thoroughly enjoyed learning about Botswanan culture and really, really enjoyed meeting the main character, Precious Ramotswe. In fact, I saw a quote from the author that he didn‘t intend to make this a series but he came to love Precious so much that he had to continue her story. Agreed - delightful all around!

I absolutely love this series about a lady who decides to become a private detective in Botswana. She has one instructional book she draws wisdom from, and an assistant with less than the best people skills, and very good intuition.

Part cozy mystery, part examination of human nature, part love song to Africa and Botswana, every book leaves me with a warm feeling.

I highly recommend audio if you can- the narrator is perfect.

*Are there any Precious Ramotswe lovers out there (besides me, of course)? I love, love, love these books, plus I also loved the HBO show starring Jill Scott & Anika Noni Rose. Honk if you love Botswana‘s most revered lady detective!! ♥️

Finally decided to tackle this series on audiobook. Love the narrator!

Finally read this modern classic. Found it similar to the Isabel Dalhousie series in the middle-aged female perspective, the slower pace, similar multiple small story arcs, and the unique vocations of the characters. McCall Smith certainly has a type!

I enjoyed the book generally but nothing felt really special to me, except for Precious‘s strength, forthrightness, and her cleverness.

I am re-reading Jane Austen novels for the first part of the year with the #ArdentlyAustenBookClub I decided to read more diverse books in between. I had heard great things about this series, but it was not as clever as I had hoped. It is set in a culture I am not familiar with though, which was my aim.

I gave it three stars on goodreads.
