Outsiders
Outsiders | S E Hinton
When it was first published in 1967, The Outsiders defied convention with its immediate, deeply sympathetic portrayal of Ponyboy and his struggle to find a place for himself in a difficult world. Thirty years later, it speaks to teenagers as powerfully as ever.Puffin is proud to publish this contemorary classic for a new generation of readers. Praise for THE OUTSIDERS "This remarkable novel gives a moving, credible view of the outsiders from the inside. . . we meet powerful characters in a book with a powerful message." -- The Horn Book "Taut with tension, filled with drama . . ." -- The Chicago Tribune

It looks a bit worn because it has been used a lot in our school - I never did so far, but I definitely will. I really liked this coming off age story and it doesn‘t feel like being old at all. I really like the way of fast-paced writing and enjoyed the somewhat hardened character of Cherry very much. She‘s definitely seen it all. 💪💪💪

Tamra My son really liked reading it and watching the film. I don‘t recall if it was freshman or sophomore year. 1mo

Reading The Outsiders for the first time because we have a class set in school. It seems somewhat familiar even thogh I never read or watched it. Reminds me of all those underdog 80ies movies. 😊

TheBookgeekFrau Ohhhh, enjoy!! Such a good book ☺️ 1mo

Reading the second half of The Outsiders by S. E Hinton was an emotional rollercoaster. In the first half of the novel, we are introduced to the characters and their characteristics, as well as the outrageous rivalry between the Greasers and the Socs. However, the second half of the book is an entirely different book. the excitement of the book constantly left me transfixed, as the more I read the book, the more engaged I felt.

kspenmoll 💖💖 2mo
Daniel Artemenko The second half of the novel is where you slowly get more engaged by the chapter. Issues arise after a drunken confrontation from the Socs that leaves one dead, and the protagonist, Ponyboy Curtis, and another Greaser, Johnny Cade on the run from the police. Later, a church Pony and Johnny were staying at sets fire and the two are considered heroes after saving some children stuck in the burning church. Johnny is left in critical condition, and (edited) 2mo
Daniel Artemenko Pony with minor burns. Johnny sadly passes, and as a result of this, the toughest Greaser, Dallas Winston, pulls a bluff gun on the police after robbing a store, resulting in his death aswell. This happened because Johnny was Dally's best friend, and Johnny's death broke him. To say that this is an emotional book is a little of an understatment, as I never have somber feelings in sad parts in books or movies, but S. E. Hinton is such a skilled (edited) 2mo
Daniel Artemenko writer, and I felt as if I was one of the Greasers having the same feelings as they have. The book ends with Ponyboy starting on a school project, and the first line of it is the first line of the book. The Outsiders is on my top 3 list of novels, and if you're looking for similar books, you should read Sag Harbour by Colson Whitehead, Dear Martin by Nic Stone, or Monster by Walter Dean Myers. The story teaches us to think before we act, as Pony- (edited) 2mo
Daniel Artemenko boy could've avoided many situations if he thought about the consequences of his actions before he actually did them. A theme I could find in the book is found in the conflicts of social classes. the Greasers are stereotyped and missuncerstood, leading to discrimintation from the Socs. 2mo

The Outsiders by SE Hinton is a superb book choice for practically anyone, and you can almost entirely guarantee they will enjoy it. This book is written In the first person perspective, where we see the view of the main character, Ponyboy living in a rough neighbourhood where the greasers and Socs have a teeth-gritting rivalry. Those who enjoy non-fiction drama, realistic fiction, or social issues books will find The Outsiders a perfect match.

Daniel Artemenko Additionally, for those who seek the same impression that The Outsiders gave, \“The Catcher in the Rye\“ by JD Salinger, \“Looking for Alaska\' by John Green, and \“The Perks of Being a Wallflower\“ by Stephen Chbosky are all fantastic books and are loved by individuals all over the world 2mo

1. My grandma passed away in 2021 so I have her crochet threads and hooks and I have her jewelry box too. I‘m trying to figure out what else to crochet with the thread. She used to crochet doilies but I want to do something different. I did crochet some tassels for some bookmarks I made.

2. Tagged! I enjoyed this book. I liked the friend group in here. My mom told me that the movie is really good but I haven‘t seen it.

Just finished a road trip with my husband and 15yo son. We listened to this, one of my favourite teenage reads. Our son really liked it & now we‘re trying to source the movie ❤️🙏💯.

TheBookHippie We did The Outsiders The complete novel version of the movie (originally filmed version) it was so much better than the original published movie. We were fortunate the library had both versions. 5mo

First time reading The Outsiders and I‘m conflicted. At times, the fact that Hinton was 14 (or 15 depending on your sources) when she wrote the original draft works to its advantage.

At other times, Hinton‘s lack of experience is evident and it pulled me from the story in a big way.

Still, I liked it for the most part. I do question, though, that if it hadn‘t basically made the YA genre would it be as pertinent and beloved today?

Another modern classic. This book always reminds me of my dad and his brothers. I can see why so many middle schoolers love this book bc it deals with (very sensitively and lowkey subtly) living in circumstances that you want to rise above. Even tho it‘s sad as shit I think this book makes middle schoolers more sensitive

This is my new favorite book, so raw and really made me take a look at how messed up society is and I have begun looking at the world and people in general with a new view. Love it so much and for once the movie was almost exactly the same as the book which made me happy. Also Dally is the best character by far.

Wow, I just finished this book yesterday, and it was probably one of the best books I have read this year. This book shows the constant battle between the Socials, the higher class, and the Greasers, the lower class, in the 1960s through the eyes of a 14 year old “Greaser” named Ponyboy. I will definitely be looking for more books by this author!

The outsiders is a book about a 14 year old boy named pony boy. It talks about his struggles with the right and wrong and society, and he happens to believe that he is an outsider he is in a gang called the greasers, and they have a problem with the socs I really liked this book because it was fun to read and easy to understand it tells a good story as well The main theme of the outsiders is identity versus group identity.

MissYaremcio Thank you for the review Hannah! For Litsy post one, you were missing the image and I would have liked a bit more with your theme establishment. Otherwise, good work. 4/6 2y

I‘m Getting into the fall mood even though it‘s still in the 90‘s here in the Alabama beaches. Beautiful day!

I celebrated by making a new front door wreath and adding a little fall decor to my bike and window frame display. I thought about adding a fake book and may do that next. What do you think?
