I‘m sorry I haven‘t been posting much lately, but I‘m trying to get back to it. I have still been buying and arranging books, like my new special edition hardcovers here. Loving having a whole shelf dedicated to Laini Taylor❤️❤️❤️

That-Bookish-Hiker Did you get the illumicrate hardcover editions?! 4y
GypsyKat @That-Bookish-Hiker YES! They are GORGEOUS!!! 🤩 I should do a separate post for each of them. 4y
That-Bookish-Hiker @GypsyKat that so awesome!!! 😍😍 I wanted them but missed out. I bet they are even more beautiful in person. I got the UK paperback edition that looks like them minus the painted edges. 4y
GypsyKat @That-Bookish-Hiker I honestly kinda want the neon cover paperback set too 😂 I don‘t need any more editions of this series though! 😅🙈 4y

I still don't know if I can find the words to explain how much I loved this series. It was everything my heart wanted and more. I'm thinking a re-read is in order soon. I must re-live the magical world that Laini Taylor created.

Plus, Akiva. 😍😍😍😍

Favourite series challenge

I love the world building, from starting in Prague to moving to a different world. The ideas on how it all works why Karou is collecting teeth for a guy named Brimstone,... I fell in love with the characters and the story.

Bought the German edition (right) for my daughter. I'll give it to her in a few years. Is that weird?

TrishB Nope! Not weird at all, organised. 6y
DuckOfDoom I really dislike German book covers. They always put a nondescript female face on it, so no boys will ever buy it even though they might enjoy a female main character and some romance in a fantasy setting as well -_- but they will get bullied if they read the German book. With the door on the English version, that would not happen as easily 6y
julesG @DuckOfDoom Funnily enough, I had a discussion with @LibrarianRyan about the covers for this series. The US covers also have a female face on. I like the UK covers better, because they might encourage boys to read it, too. 6y

DuckOfDoom Bering a reading teenager is so annoying. I remember that I did get weird looks (and more) from the 'normal' girls if I read fantasy that was not twilight or even science fiction ("you are such a nerd blablabla" etc.) It goes both ways and that's so wrong. Sometimes I think it would have been better if the covers were just single colour with a small font for author & title. (Sorry, it's a topic that drives me mad.? 6y
julesG @DuckOfDoom Hence my tall E prefers to read on the kindle. Apart from that he's already known as the nerd and does not care about it. Yesterday morning I said something nerdy and he said "I'm going to get you a mug that says 'Nerdiest Mum Ever!'" ??. We're all mad here. ? But, I know what you mean. I've been judged in school, at university. It gets easier nowadays. I'm mellowing and don't care about what others think that much. 6y
IndyHannaJones I loooooove Daughter of Smoke and Bone. 6y
Jovy One of my favorite! Visited Prague twice because of this series! 6y

Mehso-so

I have such conflicting feelings about this trilogy. On the one hand I thought it was mostly just okay. The world-building was good, the characters fine but unexceptional, the plot and pacing messy and the star-crossed lovers theme set my teeth on frustrated edge more than once. And yet they were addictive enough that I read all three in the last two days. So, did I like them or not? Your guess is as good as mine 🤔🤔

Leniverse I disliked the second book enough that I haven't read the third. Especially the star-crossed soulmates bit. And the way everyone's first instinct is to commit genocide whenever they get in a huff. But I can't quite let it go. It's on my kindle. I kind of want to know how it all goes, but at the same time... 😐 7y
Moray_Reads @Leniverse that was how I felt. Lots about it irritated the hell out of me but for some reason I felt compelled to finish it! 7y
saresmoore I think compulsively readable doesn‘t equate with actually good. 7y
saresmoore I meant to say more there... I‘ve blown through a few not-great and some blatantly bad series during both low and high points of my (reading) life. This is how I felt, too, about 24 hours after finishing 7y
Becker For me it‘s the writing. I love her style. It transcends any weakness in the plot.💞 7y

@MisterWhitaker came up with the awesome idea to do a #Litsybestnine2017, and these are mine! See anything you have read and loved as well?

P.S. I can only tag one book per post, so if you want to check out any of the books featured here, scroll down, they are all tagged in the comments!

MisterWhitaker Ooh I wish your could tag all of these books in one thread. I see so many books I want to stack! 7y
Elisa @MisterWhitaker I was just thinking the same thing as I was posting this! “I wish I could tag multiple books” Bright bookish minds think alike! 😁 You know what, I will tag them all in the comments!! 7y

JanJan Howl‘s and Neverwhere! So great! 7y
Elisa @MisterWhitaker yesss I‘m coming back over there to look at everything!! 7y
Elisa @JanJan so good, both of them! So much better than I expected! I watched the Howl‘s Moving Castle anime film again (or should I say, in full, beginning to end, for the first time) after reading the book, and it is remarkable how well he is captured!! As for Neverwhere, it has made me want to read everything Neil Gaiman wrote — he is truly incredible 🤩 7y
Cheshirecat913 Awesome books! Neverwhere was my first Gaiman and made me love his work. I read the Daughter of Smoke and Bones series this summer. Loved Howl's Moving Castle (I'm a Ghibli fan so I read the book). I just reread the Handmaid's Tale. I will have to check out the other books since we seem to like the same books! 7y
Elisa @Cheshirecat913 I‘m a Ghibli fan too! Became one through my daughter, who has been very much into manga and anime for the past several years. Just watched The Cat Returns in its entirely and I loved it so much! Totoro and Howl remain my faves though 😉 I‘m following you! Love to find someone with similar taste in books! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🌺 7y

#booktober #bestcharactername I love the name of our main character Karou. This book is a fantasy Romeo and Juliet and I loved it! Karou studies art in Prague although often disappears. She is a bit of a mystery with blue hair. I just loved Laini Taylor's writing.
I would add a picture of my books but they were so good I had to get my sisters to read them.

#TBT The most impacted read for me last year. It was about a war between two races, the angelic seraphim and the monstrous chimaera. It all began when a chimaera saved a seraph's life.

Deep, bittersweet and definitely worth reading.
