I‘d never read this before and picked it up at the library sale earlier this year. It was a sweet story but not one I‘ll read again.

I haven‘t read this book in decades but it seemed a good pick for #CousinsDay This edition was our family copy from the Best in Children‘s Books series.

It was ok, but it was pretty sickly sweet. Just too much goodness going on with these kids. I did love Uncle Alec, though

I haven‘t made it a secret that I‘m a big fan of Louisa May Alcott‘s Little Women, but I wasn‘t in the know about some of the author‘s non-March family work! Thanks to this week‘s podcast guest — New York Times bestseller Mary Kay Andrews — that‘s all changed. On Episode 104, we chat about Alcott‘s Eight Cousins, as well as its follow-up title Rose in Bloom. These books were actually super progressive for their day! Link to listen in bio. 🌹🎧

Day 6 of a book from my shelf with some random thoughts -

While Alcott is most famous for Little Women (which I do love), Eight Cousins and its sequel, Rose in Bloom, have always been my favorites. Rose's rollicking cousins always appeal to me, and I love watching Rose grow into womanhood. I also love her best friend, Phoebe, who proves herself such a worthy friend.

Like most of Alcott's books, this isn't one of high adventure, but a simple ⬇️

This set of books from Louisa May Alcott was passed on to my daughter from her Aunt. It‘s time to pass them on to the next generation of readers, but I have told myself that I need to read them first! #oldcoolbooks #bookspines

I had forgotten how thoroughly enjoyable this book is. I‘m so glad Bonnets at Dawn prompted me to re-read it. Now I‘m going to have to re-read the sequel.

“Rose sat alone in the big best parlor...” #Readingnostalgia for #24in48 the oldest children‘s book I have in my apartment at the moment...more are at my moms house! This copy is from 1927 and was my granny‘s!

I live in an area where sales are held in huge old barns. I went to one today and found a Hawthone's Tales VHS, a Tolkein book for my co-worker, and a 1919 edition of "Eight Cousins".

Eight Cousins was just fine, though I felt about it much like I did The Adventures of Tom Sawyer after reading it as an adult: I would have enjoyed it so much more if I had read it when I was 10 or 12. And I wouldn't dream of comparing it to Little Women; Eight Cousins would pale (PALE) in comparison.

Ok, so maybe I got ahead of myself (see previous entry below). 🤦‍♀️

Heavens, Louisa May Alcott sure was ahead of her time.... And, perhaps, the more things change, the more they stay the same. 🤦‍♀️

This may be blasphemy, but I enjoyed Eight Cousins so much more than Little Women! #readthisnotthat #maybookflowers

The more things change, the more they stay the same. She may be a bit preachy in her tone, but she sure hits the nail on the head.

There is so much that is sweet and quotable, I have to restrain myself. The descriptions of the cousins in this passage slay me.

#Day2 of #somethingforsept #Numberintitle: I found a fair number on my bookshelves. Eight Cousins is the first book I thought of for this as it was one of my favorite all time books growing up and is one of Alcott's lesser known books. I found this beautiful, but slightly damaged copy at a used book store a few years ago after much searching when I realized that my copy had gotten lost along the way somehow. #septemberphotochallenge

I'm using a couple of childhood classics given to me by my grandma for today's number in the title photo. Eight Cousins is a 1955 edition she passed on to me.

#tbt I had these editions when I was a little girl. I don't know whatever happened to them, but luckily I have them as ebooks. These are my favorite Alcotts, even more than Little Women.

Coming from a large family, this story of the adventures of young cousins appealed to my sense of family.#funfridayphoto
