My mom and dad are! My mom reads fiction and my dad reads only nonfiction. And my little girl is well on her way to becoming a reader too😍 Not even 19 months old and she loves paging through my books😍

We rarely swap books, because I read mostly in English and my parents read only in Dutch. I do get them translations when I come across something I think they'd like.

#TwoforTuesday

Patchshank I have quite a few relatives that read. We all like different stuff though, so there's not a lot of book swapping. 4y

I think I liked this one better than book 2 in the series. The story was a lot darker though, even if there weren't as many deaths. However, that darkness suits the fae setting, I always prefer the stories where there's a dark side to the Fae. I also like what she did with Blind Michael and his Hunt, as gruesome as it was. And I especially like that this one has a somewhat happy ending!

Really enjoyed this one! Aaronovitch‘s snarky humour is right up my alley. The story is just the right side of absurd, barely escaping ridiculous. Love the fact that it is sprinkled with random snippets about London and the English.

If the acknowledgment makes you smile you‘ll probably like the book too🤩

BookmarkTavern This whole series is so much fun! ❤️ If you like audiobooks, I highly recommend giving these a try! (edited) 5y
LittleBug @ozma.of.oz I tend to drift off listening to audiobooks🙈 But I‘ve been wanting to try again since our daughter was born, see if I can more easily listen to than read some books. So I‘ll keep these in mind! Thanks for the rec!☺️ 5y
BookmarkTavern The narrator, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, is amazing. He‘s really good at accents. Aaronovitch said in an interview that at this point, when he‘s writing Grant, he‘s also imagining how it would as KHS reads it! ❤️ 5y

I really liked the idea of this one, bringing computer technology and the fae together. Also still like the MC, she‘s both kick-ass and fallible and that makes her very likeable to me. I could have done with fewer deaths though. Guess I prefer a proper happy ending☺️

Thanks for the tag @Deifio 🤩

For me it‘s definitely Astrid Lindgren‘s The Brothers Lionheart. I loved everything she wrote, but this book has a special place in my heart. It taught a far too serious kid not to fear death. A small piece of me still believes in Nangijala...

It took me a while to get into this book. The MC is not very likeable and the story is a bit weird. But by the end I was hooked. I guess I just need a moment to be able to appreciate the snarky humour.

I liked that there was a short summary of Shakespeare‘s The Tempest at the end of the book. I haven‘t read that so this really helped seeing the parallels. After all, it is a rewrite of the play.

I didn‘t like the story, but did enjoy the read, does that make any sense? There‘s a certain acceptance of affairs in there that just annoyed me, but there‘s also a sense of the absurdity of life in there that I really liked. I mean that in the sense that everyone has their own worries, worries that seem absurd to others. And there‘s so little understanding for each other, even though we‘re kinda all in the same boat...

Loved this one! It was my first McGuire, so I guess I have a new author to add to my TBR. Have already started No 2 in the series, actually🥴

So why did I love it? Well...I liked the MC, who is kick ass, but also fallible. The book is set in a fae setting and I love fae elements in my books, really liked McGuire‘s version too! And I thought the storyline was good. Strong and complex, but not too much so.

I‘ve been reading about parenting (writing this with a nine month old sleeping on my shoulder🥴) and came across the concept of generational trauma. This book is almost like a case study on the subject, which is possibly why I‘m rating it a ‘pick‘...

Can‘t say I liked the book, but I am glad I read it. It‘s one of those books that reminds us of shared histories and how they influence different people and places in different ways.

This was a fun read! Thanks @Velvetfur for including this in the #MythsandLegendsSwap🤩🤩

Loki‘s portrayed as snarky, sarcastic and surprisingly human. I had the Avengers‘ Loki in mind from the start; the author was either inspired by him too, or simply created a very similar image of him, cause they really fit.

I‘m not entirely sure about this one... I like Pratchett voice, but it‘s a bit too much over the top for me, or maybe it‘s just too much...? It reeds like YA book, but at least half the jokes/innuendo would go past a YA reader... And for an adult, or at least this adult, it‘s a little as if the author couldn‘t choose who/what to make fun of, so he just made fun of everything he could think of???

julesG That sums it up fairly well. 5y

A man, dying in the ER, reflects on his life, especially on his process of writing his one and only book.

Not my usual fare, but fascinating to read. The stories are somewhat somber, the first two about people who have in one way or another retreated from the world.
The final one is my favourite, it reads like a summary of a myth and illustrates how myths can be created when history gets embellished.
