Path of Daggers
Path of Daggers | Robert Jordan
For millions of fans around the globe, the wait is over. Sequel to the international blockbuster bestseller "A Crown of Swords," "The Path of Daggers" continues one of history's greatest fictional journeys and the most extraordinary work of American fantasy ever published--"The New York Times," "Wall Street Journal," and worldwide bestselling series--Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time. The phenomenal tale that is mesmerizing a generation of readers now continues in Book Eight. The Seanchan invasion force is in possession of Ebou Dar. Nynaeve, Elayne, and Aviendha head for Caemlyn and Elayne's rightful throne, but on the way they discover an enemy much worse than the Seanchan. In Illian, Rand vows to throw the Seanchan back as he did once before. But signs of madness are appearing among the Asha'man. In Ghealdan, Perrin faces the intrigues of Whitecloaks, Seanchan invaders, the scattered Shaido Aiel, and the Prophet himself. Perrin's beloved wife, Faile, may pay with her life, and Perrin himself may have to destroy his soul to save her.Meanwhile the rebel Aes Sedai under their young Amyrlin, Egwene al'Vere, face an army that intends to keep them away from the White Tower. But Egwene is determined to unseat the usurper Elaida and reunite the Aes Sedai. She does not yet understand the price that others--and she herself--will pay.

Bk3 of July is done. Finished this one a few days ago, have since finished two more! The 8th book of the Wheel Of Time series, it‘s also my least favourite as it has a lot of Faile, my least favourite character. She does my head in honestly. Plus this is more of a “hurry up & wait” sort of book, it fills in what happens between here👈and there👉in a long series. A bridging novel of sorts. #BookspinBingo #SeriesLove2023 #ChunksterChallenge2023

Moving straight on to Bk8 of The Wheel Of Time series, hopefully I‘ll finish this reread before petering out at bk10 like last time! Nynaeve, Elayne & Aviendha have escaped Ebou Dar just before the Seanchan, leaving Mat & Thom behind. Perrin faces some of the scattered Shaido Aiel, and losing his wife, Faile, forever. Not the best of the series by a long shot, but it has a few plot points inc:Perrin & “Maigdhin” meeting & Elayne entering Caemlyn.

I did manage to complete the #valentinesdayreadathon on time thanks to my modest goal of just reading the intro (35 pages and tons of characters). I'm definitely losing steam in the #wheeloftime series but I really want to finish what I started! I wonder if Amazon Prime is going to continue this series or not, I had mixed feelings about season 1. Has anyone else seen it?

For the #valentinesdayreadathon challenge my goal is to make it through the intro of Book 8 in the Wheel of Time series (the intros have been notoriously long in the previous books). It's not specifically romance but let's be real, Jordan loves to create that tension between many of his characters. Thanks @Andrew65 for the idea to set a small goal just to keep reading as a consistent delight even when life is busy. All welcome to participate!

Andrew65 Best of luck. Little and often is best. ❤️ 2y

Everyone is having a rough go of it. Rand is getting more and more questionable in his choices, and poor Perrin has his own new side quest. I did like the story alignment for Morgase and her group. 8.5/10

While it seems the plot is inching forward, and one of main characters is left in the dust, there is so much going on in this volume. Invasion, intrigue, and betrayal are on full display as the plot thickens.

I‘ve done enough work on this wee Mary & Jesus ornament that you can sort of tell what it is! It‘ll be my aunt‘s Christmas present.

This #audiostitching season took me to about half an hour from the end of THE PATH OF DAGGERS. Much to my surprise, I mostly love the book this time through. The series‘ pace has slowed right down, but I‘m into everyone‘s storylines.

Bk5 of November & Bk3 of #NovelNovember #Readathon is done. The last few days have been a nightmare, worst flare I‘ve ever had has made me unable to even hold a book and I‘ve been trying to sleep through most of it. So I had to switch to an audiobook the past two days & finished the 8th book of the WOT instead. The Seanchan are in Ebou Dar, Rand has taken Illian & Elayne, Nynaeve & Aviendha are on their way to Caemlyn. #BookspinBingo👇

Still on the Path of Daggers.
Enjoying the second half of it together with some afternoon sun in Athens, Greece.
The tv series is starting soon and the fandom has been going crazy over on Twitter. I'm still on my first read of the series, but the die-hard fans' enthusiasm is infectious 😄

I can see why people who read this at the time it was published found it disappointing. This was very much a "set-up" book; all the different factions that were put into motion at the end of Book 7 spent Book 8 getting where they needed to go. If I had been waiting a year or two for this to come out- and knew I had a year or two until the next installment -I might have been underwhelmed. But since I have the advantage of reading the ?

The_Penniless_Author ...series after it's completed, and given that this the shortest book so far (if you can call 674 pages "short"), I appreciated the slow build. The story's not without action either, including war with the Seanchan and apparent treachery inside the Sun Palace. 3y
The_Penniless_Author One thing I appreciate about WoT's methodical approach is the way it allows character development that might feel forced in other, shorter series to feel completely organic, such as Rand's possible descent into madness. The way his personality and reactions to the events surrounding him have shifted over time feel natural given who he is and what he's faced, yet bear the hallmarks of the impending insanity the series has hinted at all along. 3y

#Two4Tuesday @TheSpineView

1. Tagged
2. I like that it's part of the WoT, and I'm invested enough in the series at this point that anything that advances the narrative is all right by me. What I don't like is that it's advancing very slowly, one of those books that seems to exist just to move pieces into position for the big homestretch a few books further out. Oh well, no pain, no gain!

TheSpineView I finally quit the series at book five or six. It was just too slow and I lost interest. You are much better at commitment than me, I think. 3y
The_Penniless_Author @TheSpineView It was probably book five. That one was a real slog in places, and I had trouble getting through it. But then the sixth book was the best by far, perfectly paced and a ton of plot advancement. It re-energized me for sure, and it convinced me to push through the boring bits for the big payoffs down the road. 3y
TheSpineView @The_Penniless_Author Good to know. Maybe at some point I will pick it back up 3y

Just finished this 8th book in the Wheel of Time series for #DashingDecember and #ProgressItDecember. @Andrew65

I enjoyed this book the least of the ones I've read so far. I felt like I spent most of the book waiting for something to happen and trying to sort out the hundreds of character. I'm continuing with the series because I'm told that the last ones written by Sanderson are much better.

Andrew65 Well done 👏👏👏 4y

Andrew65 @AllisonM89 This is a series I need to start! 4y
TheAromaofBooks I think I am going to keep the bingo board as an option every month. I've gotten a lot of positive feedback about it, and for those that don't really like that aspect of the challenge, it doesn't at all interfere with just participating in the regular #BookSpin challenge. I'm so impressed by how many books people are getting checked off!!! 4y
AllisonM89 @TheAromaofBooks i look at my shelves and it's so hard to pick what to read next. Somehow, the bingo board really helps simplify the process 4y
TheAromaofBooks I enjoyed Bonanza, but it felt way more high pressure than Bingo, despite the fact that Bingo involves five more books! 😂 I don't know, it's both structured but still has a lot of flexibility, and that seems to be working for a lot of people!! 4y

Day 3 of the #GratefulReads photo challenge by @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks and @OriginalCyn620

The fantasy genre has a lot of books #Over500Pages, but I‘m okay with that, since I love the intricate world-building found in series like “The Wheel of Time”. Unfortunately, there aren‘t any Funko Pops for the Wheel of Time characters yet, but these Princess Bride Funkos do kind of go with the series... Buttercup would make a glorious Aes Sedai! 👸🏼

Branwen Omg! Do you think we WILL get Wheel of Time funkos once the show is out?!?! 😍 5y

The eighth entry in the Wheel of Time Series, this one was fairly evenly paced. Even though we didn‘t see Rand until ~300 pages in, I was really engrossed by what was happening with Elayne, Egwene and Perrin. When Rand appeared, it was mainly focused on him going to war. A good entry in the series, and I‘m looking forward to starting Winter‘s Heart, as there was a bit of a surprising cliffhanger at the end.

Yay, writing reviews of books I actually read recently? Number 8 in my WoT Reread felt like a built up to the rest of the series, with the pace slowly picking up. We see a continuation of Egwene‘s awesomeness, despite all the bickering Nyneave and Elayne finally reach their shared goal, Rand learns the hard way that he doesn‘t know everything and on top of all that we‘re left with quite a few cliffhangers…
