Excited to get into these two this week
8 inches of snow and it's still coming down. Time for a bubble bath with good beer and a good read.
Fresh stack for Thanksgiving break #libraryhaul #allmyholdscameatonce
So Kareem Abdul-Jabbar co-wrote a novel about Sherlock Holmes' brother. I don't even care if this is good or not, I just love the fact that it exists.
Does the writing get better? Not sure I'm going to get far into this one.
i will always believe in books and education. I will always believe in libraries and the open community they provide. It baffles me how education and self-betterment is looked down on by so many people in this country, how it's somehow "elitist" to believe in colleges and universities. I guess I just want to say keep reading readers, keep cultivating knowledge, keep opening your minds to stories from those different than you. #lovetrumpshate
I really love the imagery of the train in Housekeeping. The lofted tracks over the black water. #planestrainsandautomobiles #photoadaynov16
Kind of procastinated this year. Probably going to be Where's Waldo because i have the shirt and glasses. Hope to aspire to something more involved next year. #booktober #characteriddressupas
This is one I #reread often but always savor slowly. The prose is gorgeous and John Ames' letter to his son is so tender and gives such an appreciation for the little moments that make up a life. It's peaceful and graceful and I love it to pieces. #booktober
The days are getting too short :( Still able to grab a little post-work outdoor reading at least.
For #booktober Elena Ferrante's Elena and Lila are incredibly #unforgettablewomen. This series is brilliant. The characters are so layered and the journey through their lives had me so engrossed I flew through it. Ready to reread this one again.
Parnassus on Wheels is such a great #quickread for adventurous book lovers. Who wouldn't want to buy a traveling bookstore and leave your helpless brother to take care of himself for a change? #booktober
A couple great reads #setinaschool . I'm sure The Secret History is going to be popular choice with how richly Tartt illustrates the world of Hampden College. Lexicon was an imaginative book set in a school where students learn how to wield the power of language and adopt the names of famous poets. #booktober
How have I never read this before now!?!? Laughing out loud. Love Flora's bluntness juxtaposed with the melodrama of the Starkadders. Just got to her meeting Mr. Meyerburg - ugh he's the worst.
#bestsidekick has to be Sancho Panza #booktober
I don't read a ton of memoirs. Here are a few in my collection, plus the Ana Castillo one I rented from the library that I'm hoping to get to soon. Recently enjoyed Angela's Ashes audiobook narrated by Frank McCourt as well. #booktober #memorablememoirs
Down the rabbit hole and into another world #outofthisworld #booktober
intense story about two French sisters during WW2. While it reminded me of a lot of other WW2 novels I've read, it still had me enthralled and was hard to put down. A story of resistance and love. Maybe don't read the last third in public if you're averse to crying in public.
Lin-Manuel Miranda was great on SNL last night. "He never gonna be president now" in the monologue was perfect. #hamilton
#firstlitsypost was only a few weeks ago because iPhones are much too breakable for me. Didn't review this book at the time but looking back, it was a brutal but great story. Loved the Gulliver's Travels-type journey through different black experiences. Cora's story will stay with me for awhile. #booktober
Star Wars day at the library! #starwars #publiclibraries
First major snow of the year in Colorado :( Somewhat mitigated by this beautiful, cozy cookbook I just checked out from the library. #cookbooks #winteriscoming
Some of the most impressive #debutnovels in my collection. Especially Housekeeping. Blew me away with its beauty. #booktober
Came across this on Facebook yesterday and thought it was relevant to #bookmarks day of #booktober. Made me laugh.
The book obsession started early. I took my whole allowance without permission and bought this #bookmark at the Wilmot Elementary book fair along with a nice stack of Babysitters Club and American Girl books. When I confessed to my parents, they just laughed. I've managed to hold on to this bookmark 20+ years now. #booktober #bookmarks
Beautiful story about family and dealing with tragedy. Erdrich's characters are so dynamic and I especially liked her exploration of the mother-daughter relationship between Nola and Maggie. The volleyball game scene was a favorite. I thought she could have a done a bit more with the storyline about all the generations of LaRoses. Overall, a great read.
Why did this description come with only 30 pages to go? I could have been imagining Vin Diesel as a priest for 300+ pages! #greatcharacterdescriptions
Love the cover art of this book as well as the book itself! #booktober #setinsouthamerica
My #booktober #mostanticipated. Catching up on a few longterm tbrs and i can't believe I've never read Little Women! #octphotochallenge
#funfridayphoto Mr. Fox with Puck the dog lurking in the background
Three of my favorite #shortstories. And that,Flannery O'Connor cover...so gorgeous. #somethingforsept #septphotochallenge
The London Undergound map in Neverwhere. Love the idea of a whole other world down there. #mapsinbooks #somethingforsept #septphotochallenge
So many good villans out there. Bellatrix and Umbridge in Harry Potter, Lady Macbeth, Mrs Danvers, Iago. But the nameless, faceless, entity Big Brother creeps me the hell out. "He loved Big Brother" is the most unnerving closing line to a book I've ever read. #septphotochallenge #somethingforsept #favevillain
I always fly through Good Omens, especially when I'm sad or stressed and need a good laugh #septphotochallenge #somethingforsept #couldntputitdown
Escape to the mountains and some peaceful reading time #septphotochallenge #readingoutside
