I stared to think about halfway through, "you know, there is no good way to end this series without Ragnarok." So I guess I was pleasantly surprised that this is only a trilogy.
As before, I love Riordan's exploration of subjects like gender fluidity, deaf culture, race, and religion. And he managed to throw in a "Bigly" reference to boot.

I've come to the conclusion: it's really hard for me to read suspense books without trying to figure out everyone's motivations all the time, which is a real buzzkill when I get to the end. That being said, this one is well-written and very engrossing. Recommended.

LoverofLit I'm the same way! I trust NO ONE 😮 7y
MyNamesParadise This is one of my favorite books! Read his second book called Second Life. Ignore the low review on Goodreads. It‘s different than this one, but still excellent! 7y

There were some topics in the first book (Wake of Vultures) which came to an abrupt close in this book, and I found myself missing the exploration of those subjects within the context of a YA novel. But this was still an interesting take on the Western genre.

Written by Obama when he was still a junior senator, this book talks about the divisive nature of American politics at that time. I can't help but wonder what 2006 Obama would make of the state of things in 2018. 😳

Not enough Sherlock, but a satisfying end to the series. Further thoughts in covered comments. #IamSherlocked

RestingBodiceFace I am happy that the author allowed for Mori's darkness, and that it won out in the end. A happy ending would have been an injustice to the characters of Sherlock & Moriarty. 7y

The romance fan in me makes me ship this couple, but the Sherlock side of me wants Mori to turn to darkness. ☠️ Great momentum throughout, with an ending that makes me wish I had book #3 in my possession already.

I was just thinking tonight about how it was #CharlaineHarris and #SookieStackhouse that first led me down the path to cozy mysteries. It was a spin-off from the romances I usually read, but now they take up a not insignificant portion of my bookshelf real estate. Like the other books in the #WitchcraftMystery series, A Toxic Trousseau is a quick read with fun & quirky characters. 💜

An enjoyable cozy mystery from the same author that wrote the #WitchcraftMystery series. Mel Turner isn't nearly as quirky as Lily Ivory, but this series definitely has potential, especially now that Mel has begun to realize her unique talents. 👻 #HauntedHomeRenovation

Although it was nice to return to the HP universe, I wouldn't recommend this. The plot seemed forced, and characters didn't ring true. If you don't want to be disappointed, stick with the original canon.
………
I would have much preferred some "Hardy Boys" type adventuring between Scorpius & Albus, or even some "Saved by the Bell" type shenanigans. There is so much awesome stuff to explore in the HP world… and books don't need a Big Bad to be good.

Foragingfantasy I decided not to read it. 8y

Vexingcircumstance I always had that attitude too. Maybe that's why I was always told I didn't act Southern and got called Yankee a lot..(I'm from SC). I just usually said "thank you" which did not make people happier with me. Especially not when it was my mom calling me that (to her being direct and honest is "acting like a yankee"). 8y
