“She thinks people who are busy working for a living deserve beautiful little stories, because they don‘t have much time and are often tired.”
“She thinks people who are busy working for a living deserve beautiful little stories, because they don‘t have much time and are often tired.”
I recommend this book as Jessamyn was very authentic and shared some tough things. I love how Jessamyn found yoga 🧘🏾♀️ and uses it for her self care and how she brings yoga to all people.
My struggles are always a gift because they reveal the strength inside of me-Jessamyn Stanley
I highly recommend this book 📖 Ashley C.Ford brought her full self to this work and told her story masterfully. I recommended also listening to the audiobook as there is a great interview at the end with the author and Clint Smith, where Ashley shares her writing process and shares how she processed her feeling and emotions during the writing of this book.
People will tell you that times are different but only some love is granted public access. It‘s not that I want to display openly, but I‘d like the option. I highly recommend this book. It‘s heartbreaking but a story that needs to be told and voice that needs to be heard.
A story about a beautiful life and person and a wonderful mother daughter relationship. This story is about how we can still connect to those who have passed on. This was a book I read with my writing workshop. We got to speak with the author too (virtually).
#HoneyGirl It was long but a great story. I loved how it touched on so many aspects of Grace, the main character‘s life. The stress of being the best, platonic and romantic relationships ( and family) and the importance of mental health. 🏳️🌈
I really wish I had this book 📖 when I was younger. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I highly recommend this book. #blackgirlmagic
Some books are worth the reread. “When we can let go of what other people think and own our story, we gain access to our worthiness-the feeling that we are enough just as we are and that we are worthy of love and belonging.”
#Imafraidofmen. #vivekshraya this was a short audiobook. The writing was well done. The subject deep and thought provoking. The author‘s voice is great. This writer touches on all of their identities and tells their story well.
#blackbuck #everyisdealsday This audiobook kept me on my toes. I couldn‘t stop listening. I cannot wait to see this adapted into film, I am sure it will be. This was a rags to riches story filled with deep and serious things racism in the workplace , gentrification and family/community. Buck the main character is a young black man who goes through so much in this book. Worth the read or listen but would be better as a film or tv series.
Very interesting. Very sad how people are preyed upon; especially poor people. This book really gave insight into how the prosperity gospel hurts people and takes away from the the message and example of Jesus‘s life. It‘s worth the read no matter one‘s beliefs or faith.
Funny raw and real. Sam Irby is so blunt and honest in her storytelling. Listening to the author read her book 📖 makes the book come alive to the listener.
I recommend this book. It was fun and fabulous. So many gems on life, career and love. Bevy Smith truly embodies her saying it gets greater later and that it‘s never to late to live your dreams.
“If you live together you live for the present if you marry you live for the future.” This was a great audiobook. Matthew really keeps the listener in gaged in his story and wisdom. You‘ll laugh and think. Check it out. 🌟🌟🌟🌟
Happy Holidays🎄🎁. I can‘t wait to dive into The Purpose of Power by Alicia Garza #blacklivesmatter and Every Body Looking by Candice ILOH
I really enjoyed listening to this book. I highly recommend this book. I am looking forward to the Netflix adaptation. This book was a story of resilience.
🏳️🌈⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I enjoyed listening to this audiobook. I highly recommend this book 📖. Chasten is very authentic in telling his story. He has a great sense of humor and he‘s relatable. Chasten keeps the listener engaged in his story.
#evicted #matthewdesmond this book was so good. This book was heartbreaking. The way the author told each of these individuals stories was genuine and honest. I highly recommend this book.
Watched Dash and Lily last night and when they mentioned this book 📖 from my child, well I had to read it again. #NYC #runaways # museum #fromthemixedupfileofmrsbasilefrankweiler
#staceyabrams #leadfromtheoutside #shero #blackgirlmagic #georgia #minorityleader “The temporary win and later loss seemed to agree with headline, but one of the aspects of holding power in understanding the long game-that battles add up overtime and create space for others to feel emboldened to act. And sometimes, a single act of defiance raises awareness and action.”
Interesting. I am interested to see if the film adaption 🎞 on Netflix. The author told his story well. As far as explaining socio economics and poverty; I feel those were his opinions.
This is a book for this time. This was powerful open and honest book. Women belong in all spaces. We must vote 🗳 and we must support women in running for office. We must protect women and our rights. Katie Hill is brave and had courage to tell her story. Hear Katie on The How To! Podcast with Charles Duhigg.
Thank you to each of these individuals for writing their stories and living in their truths. Their stories matter. Representation matters.

#shortstories #Haiti # Roxane Gay is one of my favorite writers. This was a small quick read. Once you get into the stories ,you won‘t want to put the 📖 book down. Five stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was a good read for sure. I love how honest Karamo told his story. “Remember friends, we all have inherent value and you are designed perfectly.”
#secretlivesofchurchladies #deeshaphilyaw I enjoyed this book. It was deep and entertaining. I finished in 2-3 days. I couldn‘t put it down. The stories are told in a way that captures it‘s audience. Each women‘s story is deep and memorable. Each story is secret in a way. Each story is a secret that needs to be told. I loved it.
I‘d recommend this book. This book is a book about a mother and daughter relationship. It‘s a book about culture. It‘s a book about mental health and love. Each character has depth and their own personal story and history. #youexisttoomuch #zainaarafat check it out. It‘s a book that you probably won‘t finish in one sitting; as the story drags. It‘s worth reading.
This a book I really needed. “You. An choose to grow and evolve, or you can choose to stay small and manage the opinions of the people around you.”
“Is my life a reflection of who I want to be, or is it a reaction to people I don‘t want upset?” 🏳️🌈
This book 📖 was so good. I heard about this book on the podcast The Stacks; at the end of this month writer Kiese Laymon and one of the host from the podcast will discuss this book. This book was short but deep and meaningful. I can‘t wait to hear the thoughts and conversation on this book on The Stacks podcast. Check this book out 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Five stars.
Two books came in the mail today can‘t wait to read both books 📚 yay 😁. Books 📖 📚
I read this book in 2 day‘s. I couldn‘t put it down. Definitely a book to read for the month of pride 🌈 best quote from@the book 📖 is:
“You know baby people think life is all about the big battles, but it‘s really not about that. Sometimes it‘s about finding enough self-love just to get through day‘s chores done. If you do that much every day, life gets a little easier every day.”
This book 📖 was so so so good. I could not put it down. I wish Litsy allowed me more space to rave about this book. “Be bold and brave and queer. I know that‘s easy to say and much harder to do. I know that some people will never be able to actually exhibit their queer identity in that way for reasons of safety.” #allblacklivesmatter ✊🏾🏳️🌈 #pride
Five stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “We have the power to save lives, just by being authentically ourselves; just by being true to ourselves and not letting other people make us smaller or quieter. Is There anything more powerful than that?” #blackgirlmagic #checkthisbookout #entrepreneurship #venturecapitalists #boss I highly recommend this book. Arlan gives me hope!
“Power and Empowerment aren‘t the same thing.” “Eloquent rage isn‘t always loud but it is always effective.” This book was so powerful, I loved it. I listened to this book as an audio book I really need to to buy it. So many gems. Thank you Brittney Cooper for writing this book.
#qooc #poetry #audiobook #shortread #powerful Danez reads the poems with such feeling and energy. I saw him read in person a couple of years ago. Danez is a great poet.
#newbooks #itsaboutdamntime #allboysarentblue #qpoc # enjoying both books 📚. I can‘t wait to review both of these outstanding books.
#noashesinthefire #blacklivesmatter #qpoc #CamdenNJ I really enjoyed this book. I highly recommend this book. The way Darnell tells his story is so beautiful and honest. The work he has done for his community is great. I love how Darnell is fully himself.
#body #trauma #deep I highly recommend this deeply honest and authentic book. It‘s very raw and heartbreaking. Roxane Gay is my favorite author. 📚📖 Living in my body has expanded my empathy for other people and the truths of their bodies. Certainly, it has shown me the importance of inclusivity and acceptance (not merely tolerance) for diverse body types.”
#qpoc #blacklove #youngadultfiction #heartbreaking This is the type of book I wish was written when I was a teen. The relationship between Mable and Audre was so real. The relationships and family dynamics were real. This story is about friendship, lost, love and family. I highly recommend this book 📚 📖.

You may have read Dave‘s wife book #girlwashyourface #girlstopapologizing @mrsrachaelhollis “I‘ve learned that if you don‘t love me- heck, if you don‘t like me- then I‘m not for you. That goes for anything I create, including this book.”
But there is a shame that comes with not having enough money. We live in a culture that demonizes people for not having money like there‘s something wrong with them. I have carried so much shame with me for so long. I have never wanted to talk about it.” “Knowing people aren‘t being honest with what they are showing you doesn‘t mean what they show you still can‘t get to you.”
“I have come to learn, though, that the more you love and accept yourself, the less you need other people‘s approval.” “ Basing my worth in how I treat myself despite how others treat me had been the key to my success-and I want that for you too.”
@kieselaymon
“Most days my body did not want to practice, but I convinced it that sitting still and writing were a path to memory.”
“We were both telling the truth.”
“We were both lying.”
“We were both telling the truth.”
“There was no wealth in our family, you told me more than once. There were only paydays.”
“We cannot live healthy lives in the present if we drown ourselves in the past.”
Short and funny. #noahvansciver #fantebukowski I am looking forward to find out what happens to Fante in book 2 and 3. This book is was about a failed writer‘s struggle. The story is told in a satirical way. There were many quotes from the greats, for example: “Amateurs sit and wait for inspiration, the rest of us just get up and go to work” -Stephen King
Enjoyed this story of family, growing up and following dreams (despite what other people think). Funny, serious and biographical. Please check this book out. It‘s a quick fun read.
