Pickpick

Soft pick. A page-turning fantasy full of politics, found family, war, strategy, intrigue, & action inspired by Chinese history.

Some of my struggle is the pacing. The first half is fast paced. At half-way, there's a plot twist & the story takes a sharp turn that slows down the pacing. In fairness (without giving anything away), it makes sense but that doesn't lessen the jarring nature.

Now onto book 2, Sound the Gong.

I love this world and this story tied in beautifully to Six Crimson Cranes. I hope the author will give us more stories from this world.

1) Birds enjoying as my backyard tree starts to return.
2) The smell of my indoor blooming jasmine

2.5/5 ⭐️ Disappointed in this Venezuelan-based folklore fantasy. It had so much potential and a really great world, but I think the author tried to do too much. It is the first in a series so maybe there will be more development later on

But Zola says hi! I'm behind on Litsy stuff as I'm just starting to feel better after getting sick with a cold that went to my chest and inflamed my asthma

Kudos to the young author! This was quite the story. I‘m not usually into the fantasy genre, but this story sucked me in. I‘m fascinated with the spot where this story was inspired- Hong Kong‘s Kowloon Walled City. I also like the Cleopatra and Antony concept. I‘m also not into the romance genre, but very much liked the love affair that took place between these pages. I am so glad I didn‘t put this book down early. It was worth the read.

I read this for work. It‘s the One Maryland One Book selection for 2024. It‘s a fictional account of the aftermath of the 7.0 magnitude earthquake that struck Haiti in 2010. Told through multiple character‘s POV‘s it really works to create a whole picture of the aftermath & how it affects ordinary people. It‘s beautifully written! So many long paragraphs proved a challenge for my adhd brain but it‘s such a powerful read. You need to read this one!

They don‘t advertise it on the box, but Funko‘s enormous enamel Storm pin glows in the dark! I‘ve been enjoying her eerie light since last summer, but she never got bright enough for my phone‘s camera to pick up until a few days ago, when I had the overhead lamp on for a bit longer than usual. Now I get to share this joy with the world.

YA rom following the Davenport girls, 1 of the few wealthy black families, & their friends‘ love stories in 1910 USA. They will fall in love w/ the men they aren‘t supposed to. How will they tell their parents?

⭐️⭐️⭐️ I had high hopes 4 this book. It ended up being mostly boring. I didn‘t like most of the characters for most of the book. The girls‘ character arcs tho are great examples for how arcs should be in books. I also liked the diversity.

bookandbedandtea I'm 1/3 into this and I'm bored. Haven't decided if I'm going to push through. I had high hopes for this! 1mo
