Only @dabbe and I get to complain about the heat !Or Death Valley people or other Phoenicians! Note 100 at 11 pm. This is WTF heat

CindyMyLifeIsLit Is this Phoenix? We‘re at 80 at 11 pm, so you have us beat! Our temperature is weirdly low right now—only 92, 93 instead of 98-100. Maybe it‘s a result of the hurricane! 🤷‍♀️ 5mo
Texreader That‘s brutal! I‘ve definitely experienced those baking nights here in south Texas but it‘s downright cool at 80 here, probably because of the after effects of the hurricane. 5mo
Leftcoastzen @CindyMyLifeIsLit yes , when I was a kid here it could be 104 & go down to the 70s at night. No more , between huge amounts of development & climate change probably never again. 5mo

Amiable My friend who lives in Phoenix is always defensive when I ask why she lives in the desert—she says it‘s not so bad because it‘s a “dry heat.” I say so is the heat that comes out of my oven but I‘m not sticking my body in there! 😖 Although she does have a point —humidity plays a large role in the “misery” index when the temperatures rise. It‘s been in the high 80s/low 90s here in CT, but with humidity levels over 70%. It‘s difficult to breathe. 😫 (edited) 5mo
AmyG I am off to Las Vegas. It‘s 116 today. @Amiable I agree….humidity makes life so much worse. 5mo
Leftcoastzen @Amiable well , that‘s gone too . When I was a kid humidity would be 12% or less . When I posted last night 29% humidity. Used to be our monsoons would come & go fast , along with humidity, no more. 5mo
AnnCrystal Oh boy! 🌡️🙏🥺. 5mo
Leftcoastzen @AmyG be careful & stay hydrated! Vegas has had so many heat records lately. 5mo
Allbymyshelf It‘s so awful! I feel ya. It‘s 112 in Sacramento today. Stay cool 😎 5mo
dabbe I'm with ya! Some data from the AZ Republic:
√“Phoenix heat experts expect 2024 to break the record for hottest summer in history.“
√“At Sky Harbor Airport, NASA found the pavement to be around 140 degrees.“
√“This year, we‘ve already had 23 days of excessive heat, meaning we will outpace previous records.“
Plus, humidity AND high dew points but ZERO rain, unlike our monsoons of old, which would bring some respite. It's frickin' hell here. 🔥

Hooked_on_books At first I looked at thought, 113 in phoenix in summer? Seems common. But not at night like that! That‘s awful! 5mo
ShelleyBooksie Wow!! That's wild heat. 5mo
Leftcoastzen @readmyeyes Sac can be shocking hot at times, love that town! Summer heat is why I never hit the fair when I lived in NorCal 5mo
Leftcoastzen @dabbe stay near the air & hydrated! As a kid I remember 105/74 much less population & buildings then. + climate change 5mo

@Eggs (thanks for the tag! 😘

I've been out of town, so I'm a tad behind.
1. If I helped to make one child a better reader and writer after teaching for 28 years, I would happily say #myworkisdone.
2. My idea everything would have been to not have had to work but to have been able to use my teaching skills as volunteer at my local library, maybe helping adults learn how to read.
3. Retirement? #heckya! 🤩

KadaGul @dabbe #1 I deeply respect ✊🫡you and your efforts. 7mo
Eggs #1 - I‘m sure you affected many young lives 💙!! 40 years for me - phew 😮‍💨 7mo

dabbe @Eggs You WAY MORE than me! 🤩😀😘 7mo
bthegood I still remember my 2nd grade teacher, Mrs. Vanderbrink, she helped me fall in love with learning. You may not know when and how you reach people - but you do 💝 7mo
Eggs @dabbe In reflection, it‘s not the # of years, but the quality of the relationships, the power of the word, the epiphanies—evidenced by the notes, letters, and art our students gave to us, in all their vulnerability and wonder 💭 💜 🥰 7mo
Eggs @bthegood Miss Silliman, 3rd grade, for me ~ fresh out of college, lovely, polite, read to us, fostered a safe and comfortable learning environment, solidified my love of reading🩷! Magical ✨💫 7mo
dabbe @bthegood So true. I remember my 4th-grade teacher, Ms. Littrell, for the same reason. Thanks for reminding me. 💙🩵💙 7mo
