Mysteries of Udolpho | Ann Ward Radcliffe
TheAromaofBooks The whole situation with Macaroni felt anticlimactic after he was the villain for most of the book. 1w

BarkingMadRead @TheAromaofBooks for real! Like he was just a footnote 🤷🏻‍♀️ 1w
mcctrish That‘s was so much blather for nothing 1w
Bookwormjillk This is the kind of chapter that really makes me not like this book. Emily is about to get to the bottom of things but oh wait there‘s music 🙄 1w
Clare-Dragonfly All the hints about Emily looking like the marchioness! But she couldn‘t exactly have a secret kid, could she?! 1w
BarkingMadRead @Clare-Dragonfly I thought at first, until they started talking about her face turning black 🤮 so bizarre 1w
AllDebooks Anyone else losing count of all the Counts? 😅 1w
Clare-Dragonfly @BarkingMadRead I thought the same thing!!! 1w
mcctrish @AllDebooks too many counts to count (edited) 1w
AllDebooks @mcctrish far too many 😅 1w

Ruthiella @mcctrish Agree! A little sad Mr. Beebe wasn‘t on board, but I can also understand his frustration at being used. 1y

mcctrish @Ruthiella his reaction seems over the top to me but I think the main point is George and Lucy are so meant to be ( unlike the fiasco ) they don‘t need approval 1y
dabbe Get over it, Mr. Beebe and Lucy's family! Reach a little more into that 20th century! 🤩🤣🤩 1y
Bookwormjillk I thought that chapter was really sweet. I think Charlotte helped too. 1y
Clare-Dragonfly I found the ending unsatisfying 🤷🏻‍♀️ I think Forster skips over stuff I‘d like to know more about and extends stuff I‘d rather get through quickly. 1y
Morr_Books I absolutely loved this book and enjoyed all the comments y'all made throughout. In the last chapter, I thought the dialog with the Italian was a weird way to tell the audience that they were married. Also, I too believe Charlotte helped (aka redeemed herself a bit). 1y
Bklover I would love to have seen a bit more of the in- between part. I loved this book, but it ended so abruptly. And I really can‘t see why everyone‘s so angry about them. If her mother loves her, wouldn‘t she want her happy? Oh, and I like how she mentioned coming in to her money next year, so we don‘t have to picture them poor 😉 1y
Bklover Oh, has anyone read the appendix? Apparently Forster wrote an appendix in 1958 telling what happened “after”. I just read the summary. Didn‘t like it. It said only some versions of the book contained the appendix. 1y
eeclayton @Clare-Dragonfly @Bklover I agree. Just like the missing Rome chapters earlier, we go from denial to poof-they-are-on-their-honeymoon. That said, I did enjoy the book, I just think some more chapters could have been added. 1y
julieclair I don‘t think Charlotte actually helped, but rather chose not to hinder. And I would have liked to have learned more of Charlotte‘s backstory. 1y

While looking for something to do at work other than CE for my license (that I desperately need to do but don‘t want to), I found an earlier version of my current WIP. I abandoned it halfway through Nov and thought maybe I‘d blow the dust off it and try to finish it. 🤣🤣🤣 #amwriting #sortof

I haven‘t had a whole lot of listening time today, but I made a bit of progress through THERE‘S SOMETHING ABOUT SWEETIE while I dealt with part of the giant bunch of chard my neighbour gave me earlier this evening.

The book‘s still great. I‘m sure the chard‘ll be great, too, but I‘m tired of eating it as chips or tossing it in anywhere I‘d normally use kale. Do any of you have some favourite chard-forward recipes? #audiocooking #sortof

Lindy I like chard cooked with a little soy sauce and garlic. Sauté the stems separately because they take longer. (edited) 5y
effani I like to saute chard with onion and garlic and use that as a burrito filling, along with fresh tomato salsa and rice. (This is a very abridged version of a recipe from the tagged cookbook, which is a favorite in my house) 5y
xicanti @Lindy I like the sound of that. It‘s similar to the seasonings I use with shimeji mushrooms. 5y

xicanti @effani I don‘t eat onions, but I‘m sure I can adapt that! I‘ve also got a ton of tomatoes courtesy of the same neighbour and his extensive garden. 5y
Lindy I remembered having a sweet tart made with chard when I was in Nice. Tourte de blettes. David Leibovitz has a recipe: https://www.davidlebovitz.com/swiss-chard-tart-recipe-tourte-de-blettes/ 5y
xicanti @Lindy this sounds intriguing, and I‘ve got everything except the pine nuts on hand. 5y
xicanti @mreads I do like hummus! I‘m gonna see if I can find some affordable tahini so I can try that. 5y

Post-work #library haul.

Side note- I‘ve always been torn about these stickers that my hometown library uses. I think they turn off a lot of people who might have otherwise checked the book out. On the other hand, it allows me to find all the historical fiction the place has to offer 😝 #bookishpetpeeve #sortof

MarriedtoMrT I‘m pretty torn on stickers, too, for the same reasons you said. 7y

I'm so nervous about this galley! Her book Six of One is one of my faves, and this is in the same series. But RMB has become SO curmudgeonly (and libertarian) over the years that I'm almost peeking between my fingers to read this. 🙈 #pleasedontruinthisworld #galleybrag #sortof

BookishFeminist 😒 Someone needs to tell her about Litsy. Friends from all generations on here so I don't see how technology hurts communication! 8y
Chessa So agree. Just, why?! This is such a fucking boring argument to put in an intro. Ugh. 8y
ginarae3 People thought the same thing about the telephone. Probably about letter writing. Ugh. Technology is your friend! Communication is good! 8y
