The Bell Jar | Sylvia Plath

Bookwormjillk I should not have saved this chapter to read during lunch. Nice of Doreen to not leave her in the hall. Feeling bad for the cleaning staff who have had to clean puke several times in just a few chapters. 2w

dabbe I can't think of a book I've read where there's so much 🤮 in the first few chapters! 🥴 2w
tpixie Nothing like reading about 🤮 during lunch 🥗! 💚💚💚 2w
Cuilin @Bookwormjillk why did I read it before breakfast? I need to take medication with food. I risked it with a couple of bites of toast after reading this I couldn‘t stomach anything else. Ugh nasty 2w
BarkingMadRead @Cuilin @tpixie @Bookwormjillk I was eating breakfast, it was berry oatmeal, it was pink, and now it‘s in the garbage 2w
mcctrish I knew the food was bad!! The descriptions yesterday of it and her shovelling it in made me queasy. I feel bad for everyone who had to clean up all the vomit 🤮 2w
Deblovestoread So I made the mistake of reading all this before I‘ve started today‘s chapter. I‘m afraid, very afraid! 2w
willaful Glad I leave my daily chapter for bedtime!

Doreen is kinder to her than she was to Doreen. She seems to be a kind of nasty person in fact. Deliberately stomping on people's feet. Admittedly she was very sick.

So this is weird: Ptomaine poisoning is a myth. Did anyone know that?
2w
dabbe @Bookwormjillk Pretty much anything beats #thebros, right? 😂 2w
tpixie @BarkingMadRead lol 😝 bye bye oatmeal 🥣 2w
tpixie @willaful yes, Doreen treated her kindly. She did seem to take glee and stomping on their feet. I read that it was a myth too. That was surprising. 2w
Clare-Dragonfly There has been a LOT of vomiting in this book considering we‘re less than 50 pages in! @willaful I knew that… once I googled it to find out what it was 😂 2w
ElizaMarie I find her super mean spirited. Like she isn‘t a kind person at all. 2w
TheAromaofBooks @ElizaMarie - I agree, she's SO self-absorbed. All of her actions seemed based on “what will people think about me“ 2w

Bookwormjillk What exactly is the mystery here? I am impressed by the quotes at the beginning of every chapter. #NoGoogleBackThen (edited) 3mo
Clare-Dragonfly I‘m going to be really annoyed if the creeper is Valancourt, when Radcliffe gave us a whole chapter about how he‘s distracted and doing stuff other than pining over Emily. 3mo
BarkingMadRead @Clare-Dragonfly I thought the same 🤣🤣 3mo
mcctrish @Clare-Dragonfly I keep thinking it‘s him too 3mo

Agnes Grey: Large Print | Anne Anne Bront

Bookwormjillk You know what though? Miss Murray is a spoiled brat, but she does seem to care about Agnes. Agnes just can‘t be bothered. 2y
Ruthiella Yes, absolutely baffling why Agnes would want to go home for her sister‘s wedding when she could stay and admire Miss Murray‘s ball gown. 🙄🙄🙄 2y

Aimeesue I am absolutely NOT rereading AG again, but I am loving the hashtags! 😂😂😂 2y
BarkingMadRead @Aimeesue 🤣🤣🤣 2y
TheBookHippie @Ruthiella 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 2y
julieclair @Aimeesue That's exactly what I did with Middlemarch! 😂 2y
dabbe At least Agnes stood up to Miss Murray. I mean. Sorta. 2y
mcctrish Miss Murray is making me think of Cher (Clueless) and Emma, not horrible people just never had to think outside of the box( beyond themselves). Agnes is still just dialling in her day job 2y
dabbe @mcctrish She talks about wanting to “break free“ and go on a journey. Being a governess in the 1800s was one of the only ways to do that. Yet she doesn't really want to be a governess at all, does she? She wants adventure, and these little/older brats aren't giving her one. Whew! Now I'm #angryatagness 2y
mcctrish @dabbe she really doesn‘t seem to like being a governess or children or talking to people 2y
Morr_Books I agree with everything y'all are saying. Agnes does not seem to like being a governess. Her attitude is making me dislike her a bit too, because while I find these kids way too self-important, they aren't nearly as bad as the last group. Maybe Agnes is just more complex than I am giving her credit for right now and hasn't made up her mind quite yet what she wants. 2y
AllDebooks @BarkingMadRead I completely missed this. Please add me to the tag list and I will play catch up x 2y
TheAromaofBooks I'm rather disappointed because when I read Wildfell Hall I found Helen to be an incredibly compelling heroine. However, Agnes is very... cardboardy. I haven't really connected with her at all. 2y
