BookmarkTavern This was such a fun read! I really loved the satire of Hollywood and making movies, how Dibbler kept going grander and grander with his plans. Also, the troll romance was unexpectedly delightful. And I can‘t believe it took me until the last hour or so for the book that I got the uncle Oswald reference was the Oscar statues. 😅😅😅 (edited) 1w

julesG Did I mention that the new recording of the audiobook is narrated by Jason Isaacs? If not, mea culpa. 1w

BarbaraJean I loved all the little references--especially Blown Away 😂 It was a lot of fun deciphering those references, and I'm sure I missed a lot of them. I also really liked the deeper themes about dreams, and Victor's comments on being the biggest version of yourself. I'd have liked more of that, but felt like it got eclipsed by all the clever references. @BookmarkTavern Yes! The troll romance! I think the trolls were my favorite characters in this one. 5d

willaful @BarbaraJean I also liked the troll romance, which reminded me of my marriage. 🤣 I really had to hit him with a brick!

I enjoyed all the jokes, but also feel the deeper themes weren't explored as much as I would've liked. It's interesting to see the beginnings of the Wizard changeover, and Ponder Stibbons. 2d

Yes, the chronology was a bit confusing. I wonder what Rincewind was up to while all this was happening. Probably running away, somewhere. 1d

TieDyeDude My reading for the second half of October has been slow and my library still doesn't have copies of this available. I think the announcement of the new series probably had an effect on availability. I'm going to try to read this in November, since I read Salem's Lot recently. I did see an article about the new show and a hope that they cast a full-figure lead since Carrie is supposed to be heavier. 3w

5feet.of.fury I liked Carrie, soooooo to the point compared to newer King, still good character studies just shortened. I liked the way the story was kind of bookended. 🩸 3w

BookwormAHN I'm also on a 10 wk wait for Salem's Lot but it is a reread for me. I think I enjoyed Carrie more this go round. This also may be the only King book where he really stays with this story and we don't get everyone on the planet's backstory 😸 3w

Balibee146 This was my first read of Carrie and I was surprised how short it was. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would as exposure to bits of the films meant it didn't hugely appeal to me. I think the writing style with the patchwork of voices /reporting style lifted an otherwise "by the numbers" plot progression. 2w

Balibee146 Oh and I didn't spot any mentions of a character wearing a "sportcoat" in this one. Over the course of reading my first few King novels that kept getting mentioned and it isn't a terminology we use in the UK so I noticed it.... Then got a bit obsessed with it being mentioned often ..... I shall be annoying you all with "Spoartcoat" Spotting as the months go by... Sorry! 2w
