My reading has gotten heavy again, so I needed a #palettecleanser for #hyggehour yesterday. I asked storygraph for something funny, relaxing, and lighthearted, and that's just what I got. It was a fun read with my own familiar, #johansebastian. #catsoflitsy

Forgot to review yesterday....a delightful, fun, easy read without the cheese ❣️❣️❣️My only complaint, a rather too perfect ending...still highly recommend when looking for #beachread #braincandy #palettecleanser 🏖🍭🍹

I do not consider this to be a good book, but it was a perfect frothy light read for me as I recovered from stomach flu (although I did have to skim the otherwise interesting food parts!!). The material and couture descriptions were basically lost on me, but there was some interesting culture thrown in, and props for the Humboldt callout pictured! Occasionally the tone was surprisingly offensive (esp. the Bernard character).

Cinfhen I agree as a #palettecleanser this book is PERFECT #braincandy 🍭🍡🍬🍭 7y
tif @UrsulaMonarch I really enjoyed the Invention of Nature! Knew nothing about Humboldt before I read it but feel like more people should know about him 7y

UrsulaMonarch @tif cool!!! & I agree, especially if this line from his Wikipedia is at all true! "More places and species are named after Humboldt than after any other human being." 7y
tif @UrsulaMonarch I'm pretty sure it is. I think I remember checking that fact when I first read the book. 7y
UrsulaMonarch @tif it seems like such a hard thing to calculate! 😁but then most humboldt things I know (mainly park in Chicago & county in CA) ARE after him! 👍 7y

This was sweet and fun, a solid #palettecleanser #openingact🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼.5/5 Frank is the AJ Fikry of the music world 🎶He‘s quirky and a bit of an oddball but lovable and gifted in all things music. He can suggest a track for every moment in your life & help find a song that speaks to your soul, but when it comes to love and sharing his feelings he‘s without a score 🎼 Lucky for Frank, he has the best band of friends preforming as backup😎😜

Cinfhen @TrishB @emilyhaldi @Reviewsbylola @mrp27 I‘d say this is a solid library loan or a free credit #BOTM....It‘s not earth shattering but an easy read, especially nostalgic if you love music 🎵 I think you might like this @TrishB (edited) 7y
Cinfhen And the end of the book includes a playlist 🙌🏻🎶 7y
emilyhaldi Wow 5/5! Sounds fun, might have to give it a try after all ❤️🎼 7y

kspenmoll Thanks for review. BOTM pick I have yet to get. 7y
TrishB Lovely review ❤️ as I already have a copy I shall save for when I need a bit of a light hearted read. The music bit does appeal to me. My hubby recommends songs/albums all the time....like all us with books! (edited) 7y
mrp27 Thanks for the review! Will definitely give it a go. 7y
Lidia This was my pick for BOTM too 7y
Cinfhen Nooooooo @emilyhaldi 3.5/5 hope others don't think it's a five star read😜😬 7y
emilyhaldi Oooohh lol, I see it now 😂🤘🏻 7y

#emojinov #🚦Made me think of road trips, and this cute sounding novel from my #TBR that a friend recommended to me recently.... sounds like a good #palettecleanser ... Anyone read it?

Godmotherx5 @KarenUK I read it about 10 years ago. I felt the end was wrapped up too quickly. As if another writer stepped in to write it. Cute up until the last chapter or so. 7y

Cortg Angela‘s Ashes is a good one! I‘m finishing No Summit Out of Sight (YA) and moving on to Jason Reynold‘s new book Long Way Down (YA.) It‘s a National Book Award Finalist, before it was even released, and I‘m hearing great things! 7y
Cinfhen Sounds good @Cortg but you know I have a slight aversion to most YA fiction.... 7y
Cortg @Cinfhen I didn‘t realize that! I only read the ones I think I‘d want to recommend to my teens at work that get a lot of hype. NSOoS is NF @ the youngest kid to climb all 7 summits. 7y
drokka I loved Angela's Ashes. The film wasn't bad either come to thin of it. His follow-up 'Tis was also pretty good. 7y
Cinfhen Good to know @drokka @Cortg I do love NF & memoirs 💞💞💞 7y
TrishB I had a copy on my kindle but have brought one in the charity shop at lunchtime for 99p and it looks new!! 7y
Cinfhen Woohoo! I also got my copy used for about fifty cents 💚💚💚 @TrishB such thrifty readers 7y
TrishB We need to be 😂 7y
Reviewsbylola Angela‘s Ashes is phenomenal. 7y
emilyhaldi Oooohh is the buddy read for this book? Maybe I will join you! 7y
Cinfhen Join us!!!!! @emilyhaldi we are just reading and making observations along the way - no pressure!!! No discussion days or chapter deadlines🙄😬😉 7y
mrp27 I enjoyed Angela's Ashes. Sad that I have no idea where my copy went. Invisible Furies is definitely putting me in an Irish mood. 7y
Cinfhen Exactly @mrp27 💚 7y
minkyb Enjoy! 7y
[DELETED] 3803335244 I loved Angela‘s Ashes! I read it when I was a teenager then my teenage son just finished it. Moved onto Tis‘ which is good too! 7y
Suet624 Angela‘s Ashes 💕💕💕 so good. 7y
Cinfhen I can tell it's going to be a winner @Suet624 @ForeverNerdy @minkyb 7y
Cathythoughts I read this years ago. It‘s good!! Enjoy. I‘m on a buddy read with @TrishB next weekend. I think I‘ll start early, I‘m afraid @TrishB will only have to look at the book & it will be read. ( only a friendly joke 😀) I‘m only jealous 💕 (edited) 7y
TrishB @Cathythoughts 😂😂 that's what my kids say! Do I open and inhale them! 7y
Cathythoughts @Trishb thankyou for accepting the friendly joke. Looking forward to The Rivers of London 👍❤️❤️ (edited) 7y

Orphan Number Eight | Kim Van Alkemade
post image

#NovemberByTheNumbers Two books I read with #8 in the title... tagged book had all the elements I like in historical fiction but for some reason( the writing? the execution? ) this book was only a so-so. #Eight Hundred Grapes which I thought would be trite was a total pick! Way smarter than I thought it would be...

emilyhaldi So glad you mentioned this about 🍇!! I keep passing over it for the same reasons you mentioned 7y
Cinfhen It‘s a good #palettecleanser @emilyhaldi 😊I read it from a library copy...which made it even sweeter 7y
MallenNC I read Eight Hundred Grapes and really enjoyed it. I agree with you-- there was more to it than I expected. 7y

DebinHawaii I have Eight Hundred Grapes on my Kindle & need to read it. 👍I liked Orphan #8 more than you did--not an easy read but I found the story and the history behind it interesting. 7y
Cinfhen It was a great story to be told & the history was fascinating but something in the storytelling didn‘t work for me @DebinHawaii 😬I‘m glad you enjoyed it😊I was unaware of the history regarding the NY Jewish Orphanage 😢😢😢 7y
DebinHawaii @Cinfhen I wasn't aware of it either until this book. So tragic. 😢 7y

Two-Family House | Lynda Cohen Loigman
post image

#NovemberByTheNumbers It‘s a fairly obvious setup of what‘s to happen to this family, but what I really enjoyed was how the family reacts and grows from the situation.
Helen and Rose are sister in laws, married to brothers Abe & Mort Berman. The couples reside in a two story family home in Brooklyn; Helen & Abe with their 3 sons live on the top floor, Mort & Rose below, with 3 daughters. On a snowy night their lives are altered.

CouronneDhiver I enjoyed this one - Mort was my favourite character! 7y
Cinfhen I know, poor Mort @CouronneDhiver 7y
Cathythoughts I really love this old picture ❤️ 7y
