I‘m reading this with my local book group. I haven‘t read the previous books and usually prefer to start a series at the beginning, but needs must!

I‘ve run away from home for the next couple days and brought the tagged book with me. I‘m a little late to #hyggehourreadathon because I was watching webinar with Heather Cox Richardson. I have a feeling that once I start reading I won‘t last five minutes before I fall asleep in this nice comfy bed.
This is a solid mystery with lots of leads that mislead. I love Vera. She‘s a fantastic character&detective. The reveal is bit disappointing & so was the tedious older-women-are-invisible, unattractive or good looking “for their age” repeated one time too many 🙄. But the strong, reliable characters and the outstanding writing make up for the shortcomings. Would love to watch the series. I wonder if the actress plays Vera as Cleeves envisions her.
Next audio book . . . Going to keep going with Vera. Also, have just discovered I now get a free audio book a month with Amazon music. Bonus!
I enjoyed it. Vera didn't appear until half way through. Was beginning to think she'd never show up 🤣

On ch. 14 of listening to this novel. The voices of the characters have been quite an adjustment to my ears- Over time I have watched every season of the series on Britbox-I cannot get the film‘s distinctive voices out of my head to make room for these audio voices -they grate on me.Despite this issue,as usual Cleeves‘ story line has me hooked.
