Breaking Silence | Linda Castillo
post image
Pickpick

I get transported back to Painters Mill every time I read one of Linda Castillo's Kate Burkholder Series books. Burkholder has to figure out who is doing hate crimes toward the Amish. Is there more than meets the eye with these crimes. If you haven't read this series, you should give it a try.

😊 Happy Reading 😊

I started this book on December 21, 2024, and finished it tonight on January 20, 2025.
One reason it took me a month to read is that it is a chunkster of a book. I, also, went down the rabbit hole, which I seem to do when I read a history book. The Fate of the Day covers the American Revolutionary War from 1777-1780. It's the 2nd volume in The Revolution Trilogy.

I thought I knew a lot about the Revolutionary War. It's a subject we are ⬇️

MonicaLoves2Read taught about in school, though I have been out of school for 33 years. I learned a lot from this book. I obviously missed part of it in school, was never taught some parts, or I have forgotten some of it. For instance, I knew that France helped America during the war, but I never knew that the Germans helped Britain. Or, the Indians helped both sides, and sometimes, the same Indians helped both sides at the same time. One thing that surprised me was that they hung people who helped the British without a trail.

Atkinson takes you on an adventure through this time in the American Revolution. He takes you from America to France with Benjamin Franklin, as well as Britain and Ireland. Even though it took me a month to read, because I was reading other books along with this one (I usually have 6 or 7 books going at a time), I enjoyed it. If you love history, I recommend this book to you.

Tentative Publication Date: April 29, 2025

I won an ARC through a Goodreads Giveaway. Thanks to Goodreads, Penguin Random House, Crown Publishing, and Rick Atkinson for the book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

😊 Happy Reading 😊

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The first book I read this year is The Woman in Cabin 10. I had it on my shelf for a long time and finally decided to read it. I was immediately sucked into the story. With every chapter I was more surprised. I really did not see it coming. Especially not this ending. It was really quite a surprise. However, the story is missing a little something to give it a fifth star.

maich This year I made a #bookjar. For every book I read, I will put 1€ inside. We'll see how many coins I'll save up. 3w

Horrible cover😝This is book 2 in the Emry Merlín, a retelling. Not much to say without spoil book 1. In some parts, the story was okay, funny and the romances cute, at YA style. However, this a modality with YA trilogies, no need to have 3 books at all. There is a third book coming this year and I bet that these two last books could end the story in just one book. Why? why are they dragging the stories?🤦🏽‍♀️3⭐️and I think I‘m giving too many

Book was a gift from Adline member of #TheForgottenBookClub (July 25, 2023). She had the same impression about this book but we all are going to read book 3 anyway 🤷🏽‍♀️Such is reading life😆

To me this one started out slow. I struggled to read the first 50 pages and thought about DNFing it. But, it picked up after then, and I flew through the book. The twists were great. That one twist, I can't tell you about bc I don't want to ruin the book, really got me.

Day 3 of #JumpStart brought me 4 more books - all off of my #BookSpinBingo list. Karamo was an easy 5 star, read for non fiction, #SayMyName, and #AtoZ LGBTQ+. Book Lovers was also 5/5. Read for my 2022 GoodReads nominees challenge, #ISpyBingo suitcase, and #AtoZ Romance. Scarlet was my first DNF of the year, but was picked to scratch off Classics, #ReadtheRainbow, and #SayMyName. If She Wakes was 3/5 and chosen by #Roll100.

The Horsewoman | James Patterson, Mike Lupica

I was very disappointed. The plot was so unbelievable and I thought the characters were mediocre. The worst part was the inaccuracies. I would think the main audience for this book would be people like me who ride and own/love horses. Knowing this I would have had someone beta read and correct the inaccuracies. The one that bothered me the most was calling a horse by the wrong gender. There were plenty others. 3⭐️ and I feel I am being generous.

RamsFan1963 I've always thought Patterson was a hack. I never understood his popularity. 2y
TheSpineView @RamsFan1963 He is not on my favorites list either. 2y
Lizpixie Patterson‘s all about the money these days I think💰 2y
TheSpineView @Lizpixie I agree. I don't think I will read another book with his name on it. 2y

This is the first of Mildred D. Taylor‘s Logan Family series. I read Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry last year and I was so affected not only by the story, but by Ms. Taylor‘s words about it, that I decided to read the rest of the series. These stories have to be read, especially by folks like me. #BookspinBingo #1 #BFC22 #JUMPSTART #SERIES2022 #LiterALLyBOOKish #Pantone2022ColourChallenge #TidyBookshelfDiverseReading #Wintercosy
