I hadn't watched since it first came out. Had forgotten how good it was.

Favorite things:
Matt Smith as Parson Collins
I want boots and thigh holster for cosplay.
And Lizzy. Such a badass. ⚔️🎩🧟‍♂️

Non-traditional mostly Emma retelling with a little bit of Pride and Prejudice thrown in. Library Hold that came in. There's a Wait List for it so I went ahead and read. This graphic novel was gorgeous! I truly believe that Jane Austen is for everyone and this showed that. I appreciated that it gave historical context at the end. 🎩

"It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single, space-faring man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife."

#PemberLittens we're half through April and I'm just starting my 'Now' #JaneAdjacent read. Morning low of 42F/6C was excuse to read a few chapters by the fire. Have read other books and watched 2 movie versions. Will share those as well. How's your reading going? #JaneAustenThenAndNow

BarkingMadRead I have to start mine, I‘ll be reading (edited) 1w

julieclair I haven‘t started yet, but I‘ll be reading 1w
SarahBookInterrupted @BarkingMadRead I‘ve read it. It‘s decent. 1w
SarahBookInterrupted I have on hold at my library Eligible for my P&P (edited) 1w
CaramelLunacy I just finished watching a terrible retelling/adaptation called Becoming Ms. Bennet in which an American vlogger is cast as Lizzy Bennet in a production of P&P and the main conflict is her terrible British accent (and insistence on vlogging disparaging comments about her costar). I am about to start 1w
Crinoline_Laphroaig @CaramelLunacy will definitely skip! 6d

Sisters was my theme for Sense and Sensibility 'Now'. Relationship between Marianne and Elinor is such an important part of the original that I wanted stories that reflected that.

3X reading Miss Austen and I loved it just as much as the first. Can't wait for the show to be available in the States. Definitely in the spirit of Austen. It was my main read managed to finish a lot more.

Deblovestoread I was so happy to watch the 1995 film and the 2008 mini series. Love them both. I just started 2mo

Crinoline_Laphroaig @Deblovestoread I didn't get to 2008 mini series. 😢 2mo
AnneCecilie @Deblovestoread I watched the same ones. I‘m so happy about I got to rewatch these 2mo
julieclair Starting this one tonight (Where did February go???) 2mo
Crinoline_Laphroaig @AnneCecilie it's pure comfort. 2mo
Crinoline_Laphroaig @julieclair I know! Suddenly it's Spring. 2mo
peanutnine I read the tagged because I love murder mysteries! It was excellent and I think true to the spirit of the original. I also watched the 1995 film, which is a favorite. I didn't know about a mini series! I'll have to check it out 2mo
CaramelLunacy @peanutnine I just finished Sense and Second Degree Murder as well. I had a good time with the investigations, and especially Margaret gathering material for her horrid novels! 2mo
CaramelLunacy I watched the movie From Prada to Nada, a contemporary retelling where Nora and Mary are spoiled rich girls in Beverly Hills and have to move in with a working class aunt when they lose their father. I had a good time, though Mary was so horrid at the beginning I had a hard time with her redemption. The big gesture at the end was utterly ridiculous, but the romantic in me went awwwww anyway! 2mo
Crinoline_Laphroaig @CaramelLunacy if it makes you happy that's what matters. Sounds like a fun movie. 2mo
peanutnine @CaramelLunacy yes Margaret was an unexpectedly delightful character! 2mo

My answers:
1️⃣ Reread. I first read several years ago and have often revisited. When choosing books, I knew was perfect for December. Short stories are wonderful during the busy holiday season. Plus there's something for everyone. ⬇️

Crinoline_Laphroaig 2️⃣ Continuations and Filling in the Gaps. I don't like when Jane's original stories are tampered with. I prefer the Regency Period but make it different. I feel like Modern Day Retellings are the hardest, especially Pride and Prejudice. A woman isn't going to starve in the hedgerows these days because they didn't get married.

3️⃣ Anne de Bourgh is definitely plotting and or waiting for when she inherits Rosings Park to go absolutely wild. ⬇️
4mo
Crinoline_Laphroaig 4️⃣ Mistletoe Mismanagement by Elizabeth Adams. I love seeing Elizabeth and Darcy happy together at Pemberley.

5️⃣ I have 3. Inspiration for book:
"I went up to the Great House between three and four, and dawdled away an hour very comfortably.” Jane wrote in a letter to her sister Cassandra.⬇️

4mo
Crinoline_Laphroaig “No, dear, they are coming with us to Rosings. I need all these books if we are to spend a fortnight there,” Elizabeth replied. - By A Lady by Lona Manning

“Really? You can march against Napoleon, but you cannot find a way to talk to a lady in your cousin‘s home? I fear for England!” Mistletoe Mismanagement by Elizabeth Adams

6️⃣ Lady Catherine. At least could escape and walk the gardens of Rosing.⬇️

Crinoline_Laphroaig 7️⃣. I love that these stories edited by
have proceeds benefiting Chawton Great House. The former home of Jane Austen's brother Edward and is now the Centre for the Study of Early Women's Writing. Just a short walk from Chawton Cottage a place Jane often visited.⬇️

Crinoline_Laphroaig And that's a wrap on 2024! Join me in January for #JaneAustenThenAndNow Book Club celebrating the 250th Anniversary of Jane Austen's Birth when we read Sensibility and Sensibility. I'll be back later with more details.

4mo
julieclair 1️⃣ First read, and I thoroughly enjoyed it! I listened on audio while in the car, and the short story format was perfect. 4mo
julieclair 2️⃣ Continuations and Filling in the gaps, for the same reason you stated. Jane‘s original stories are sacrosanct. I do enjoy modern settings, though. 4mo
julieclair I didn‘t really have a favorite story - I enjoyed them all. And I didn‘t write down any favorite quotes because I was driving, but I remember laughing out loud at the Napoleon quote you referenced above! 😂 4mo
julieclair 6️⃣ Mrs. Bennet for sure. I have known several people in my life just like her, and have learned to tune them out! 🙉😂 4mo
julieclair 7️⃣ I agree… I love that the proceeds benefit Chawton Great House. I actually plan to purchase a physical copy because of that. 4mo
julieclair What a fun reading year we have had together! Thanks for hosting, and picking such great books. I‘m excited for #JaneAustenThenAndNow ! 💙😃💙 4mo
julieclair @mcctrish (correcting the spelling in the tag list above) 😘 4mo
Crinoline_Laphroaig @julieclair so much fun! And this was great one to end 2024 on 4mo
