I read this last month so I could read the second in the series for #JaneAustenThenAndNow. I really loved this murder mystery retelling! The characters were great facsimiles of the originals - although their circumstances were slightly different, their motivations were true to the spirit of Austen. Lizzie's drive for an acknowledged role in her father's law firm leads her into a murder case with the proud Mr Darcy trying to block her every move
I adore this book. This was an instant quick read, or a pick up and go type of book, and while some of the plot line was predictable, because of the story it was based on— I enjoyed it very much. I enjoyed the court scene a lot too.
Somehow I knew Wickham was part of this murder. What surprised me though was Lady Catherine is apart of it. I‘m not surprised Collins is, though it was unexpected.
January Fiction #ReadingBracket2025
Thanks @MegaWhoppingCosmicBookwyrm for this bracket set up, I like the idea of having a bonus pick each quarter cause it's so hard to choose!
This month's favorite was this Pride and Prejudice murder mystery retelling. I'm reading the second in this series for the #JaneAustenThenAndNow S&S adaptation in February and couldn't stand to read them out of order lol, but I'm not complaining
This was a cute and clever little mystery, set against Pride & Prejudice. As a fun read, it did well enough, but there were modernisms that slipped in, and the premise itself stretched credulity maybe a little too much. Not that I didn‘t enjoy reading it, but I probably won‘t bother picking up the rest of the series. Although I did enjoy a pirate Lady Catherine De Bourgh😂 And the cover is 👌🏻
17 y/o Lizzie wants to work in her father‘s law firm, but first has to prove herself to him. She decides to solve the murder of Bingley‘s brother-in-law, for which Bingley is accused. Along the way, she butts heads with Darcy, who is Bingley‘s counsel. The author took a few liberties that she explains in a note, so it‘s not completely accurate to the era, but the story was so much fun!

I have mixed feelings on this... I think. They aren't very strong either way. It was basically Pride & Prejudice, but with murder. I did enjoy listening to it, but it was also really easy to guess which people to be suspicious of. I'll probably continue the series because it wasn't bad, I'm just indifferent towards it.
#Rushathon #SeriesLove2023
My last book of November-a YA mystery adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. It was a light & easy read & enjoyable even if (noted by the author) not truly accurate to the era. I liked what the author did with the characters & the mystery was good & had a few different twists. I‘ll read the other books in this Jane Austen Murder Mystery series. (Sense and Second-Degree Murder & Manslaughter Park—gotta love those titles!)
This was a fun book with occasional eye rolls and a mostly satisfying mystery case.

“IT IS A TRUTH universally acknowledged that a brilliant idea, conceived and executed by a clever young woman, must be claimed by a man.”
I hate it. It‘s an unfortunate truth. And I hate it.

It is a truth universally acknowledged that a young woman who desires a law career must be in want of a case. So when sixteen year old Lizzie Bennet hears about a scandalous society murder, she sees an opportunity to prove herself as a solicitor by solving the case and ensuring justice is served.
I loved this book!!! It is from the Jane Austen Mystery series!!! The book is a take on Pride and Prejudice by Austen. This book was great and I can't wait to read the next books in the series!!! I rated this book a 4 out of 5 stars!!!
This was a fun YA mystery adaptation of Austen's original. The vilians were exactly were exactly who I hoped they'd be 👿
Neither loved it or hated it; mostly just meh, middle of the road. Felt like it couldn't make up it mind if it wanted to be Historical Fiction or Modern Day.
Ended up listening to some of book and wasn't crazy about Narrator. I would try next in the Series but would go with Library book instead of buying. #AusteninAugust
Whose hoping Carolyn Bingley is the murder? 🙋🏻♀️ #AusteninAugust
It wasn‘t what I expected, but it was an enjoyable light read. I wasn‘t sure at first with the liberties the author took with changing the characters and how they interacted with each other, but once I got used to it, I enjoyed it. I do like a murder mystery and I‘ll never tire of P&P spine offs. Now that I know what to expect I think it will be easier to shift into the flow of the next book. I also like who the author made the villains.
Omg @babyruth2510 what an amazing box of fun! I love the #staycationswap goodies and both books have been on my list for awhile! I can‘t wait to make a cup of tea and read!! Thanks to @Chrissyreadit and @DinoMom for hosting!
This didn‘t do it for me. The reader was OK. The story dragged on. I‘m in an audiobook slump. (Not so with ebooks and print books.)
Just started The Floating Feldmans on audio. We‘ll see if it can keep my interest. 😆😆😆
My local B&N has a great display of Austen retellings right now! Found a few more to add to my TBR. #pemberlittens
Also, after some time off I‘m ready to jump back in to the chapter a day buddy reads, but I‘m not sure what the current schedule is?
This is barely a pick, although the ending was quite satisfying. Imagine the characters of P&P in a world where they are lawyers, with Lizzy‘s powers of deduction more fitting into a cozy mystery book than a true mystery. What saved this book from the so-so is the pirate angle, which I thought was interesting. 2/5 stars, good to read when sick.
I seem to be on a roll with the "it was ok" books... another low pick. This one takes the characters of P&P and moves them into middle class. When Bingley is suspected of murder, Darcy and Lizzie are in competition over whose law firm will represent him- Darcy or Lizzie's father. Lizzie of course dreams of practicing law herself and decides to find the true murderer. All sorts of hijinks ensue...
Now this was a good murder mystery novel. The ending had a perfect measure of not expecting the murderer and not having the murderer connected in some extraordinary way. I‘ve never read Pride and Prejudice, so I have no idea how it compares to that, but it was a great mystery and romance. 5🌟

Despite Mrs. Bennet's best efforts, Lizzie doesn't want to get married- she wants to become a barrister at her dad's law office. Despite Mr. Bennet's best efforts to discourage her, Lizzie takes it upon herself to try to figure out who murdered Mr. Bingley's brother-in-law. The top suspect? Mr. Bingley.
Another book finished during the #NovelNovember Readathon! This was a fun retelling of Pride and Prejudice as a murder mystery!

😂
#PemberLittens & other Pride and Prejudice fans, these two e-book adaptations are on sale right now & look like fun. Pride & Paranormal looks like a good one for October reading lists. I just bought both to add to my massive Kindle #TBR list. 📚📚📚🤦🏻♀️📚📚📚
I love a retelling that gives a little twist to the original story. The twist here is that Elizabeth Bennet wants her father to allow her to work in the family‘s law practice, which leads her to try to solve a murder with Darcy showing up at a rival law firm. I will definitely read the next book in the series.
A Jane Austen Murder Mystery. I loved this re-imagining of Pride and Prejudice as a murder mystery and the cover and that it will be a series 🎉🎉🎉
A very reserved pick for me. Like “A Study in Charlotte,” this book would‘ve done better without the comparison to one of the greatest novels ever written. The characters didn‘t have much in common at all with their namesakes, and I can imagine Austen turning in her grave knowing how her heroine is being handled, but it was a fun, fast- paced read and a nice way to spend the afternoon.
As someone who adores all things Austen it was nice to spend time with some of my favorite characters. Not my favorite retelling by any means but a fun read nonetheless.
This was a fun and mysterious romp through regency London. Although it is not historically accurate for the time (the author admits this) there is still a lot of detail about the period and life in London. I look forward to reading more from the Jane Austin Murder Mystery series.

Thanks to #Netgalley I‘d gotten a chance to listen to this one before its publication. It‘s a YA whodunnit spin on Jane Austen‘s Pride and Prejudice novel. I thought it was a lot of fun and it looks like the author has a couple more of Austen‘s books she‘ll be doing this too as well. I‘m excited, I love a fun mystery.
A charming retelling. Price remixes the characters & circumstances in just the right way, making for a unique experience that still feels familiar & comfortable. Lizzie & Darcy read a bit younger than in the original, but still experience the same kind of character growth. The touches of reflection on social class, justice, & sexism are just enough to make their point w/o becoming heavy-handed. I'm delightedly craving the next.
Sounds good to me! Especially excited about the #BookSpin but also for #DoubleSpin. @TheAromaofBooks

I have never really been a fan of Pride and Prejudice. Ive seen multiple versions of the movie and loved them, but I have never made it through the book. And unfortunately I didn‘t make it through this one either. I like the premise. Elizabeth bennett wants to be a lawyer and practice with her dad, but she is a lady and lady‘s done work. Mystery abound, but it‘s not entertaining enough to the listerner to care enough to finish the story.
#Netgalley users, has anyone else tried the new audio review copies? This one is a “voice galley” rather than the upcoming audiobook: it‘s just a synthetic voice reading the galley aloud. I‘m... interested, but not sure I‘ll use them regularly. It‘s nice to make a dent on my Netgalley tbr while doing housework (aka how I do most reading currently), but also the synthetic voice is VERY synthetic, and I‘m spoiled too high quality audio these days...
Omg this was so fun! Scheduled to be released in April...
YA(ish) Pride and Prejudice retelling with murder! And competing law firms of Longbourn & Sons (lol) and Pemberley & Associates.
My spoiler-free rambling review is on my blog: http://sprainedbrain.blog/2020/12/12/really-early-arc-review-pride-premeditation...
#PemberLittens I can‘t wait to talk to y‘all about this!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2
This was a fun read! Jane Austen meets a murder mystery and amateur sleuth! As a mass consumer of female sleuths going against gender norms of society...I loved this. I liked the liberties Tirzah Price took in order to create Jane's personality and conflict that wasn't just a “being a woman sucks in this time period.“ The romance with Darcy was very present and I liked the banter/tension/conflict between them.
I did NOT see the twists at the end.
It's weird how many Jane Austen retellings I read when I didn't like any of her books. Anyway! Lucky enough to get approved for an ARC
Littens!!! Did you know about this?!? I didn‘t know about it—I only stumbled across it today...and just look at this cover! 😍😍😍 Jane Austen and a murder mystery? Yes please! Out March 9, 2021. Can‘t wait!
