For the past couple of years I‘ve read a classic during the span of twelve months. In thinking about 2024‘s yearlong project, I‘m considering ramping up my #chronologicalkingread and trying to finish one book every month. If I can do it, I‘ll head into 2025 about to complete The Dark Tower!

Nothing like spur-of-the-moment reading goals on the last day of the year…

As I continue my slow journey through a #chronologicalkingread, I realize I‘ve forgotten just how long this short story collection is.

I also notice that King was 45 when he wrote the introduction to the book. I‘m really glad he hadn‘t said everything he had to say at that point. Apparently, he hasn‘t yet, either! Lucky for us Constant Readers.

It‘s been years since I‘ve read this one, and I‘ve been mentally preparing myself for the degloving scene... but I forgot that before that, Jessie wants to cut herself to lubricate herself out of the handcuffs.

I‘m not sure I can read that. Any description or enactment of self-harm in this vein (no pun intended) causes a visceral reaction in me. I‘m talking grayed vision, flushed skin, could faint if I continue.

dariazeoli I should just put this book in the freezer a la Joey Tribbiani. (edited) 4y
MySharonaK @dariazeoli yes this book belongs in the freezer ! For quite a few bits that keep coming back to me even though it‘s been years. I also really related as I‘m also feeling awful when reading stuff like that, feeling weak and queasy and like I can‘t stand or I‘ll faint 4y
dariazeoli @MySharonaK I‘m glad and sorry that you can relate 😆 I considered DNFing, but I quickly skimmed the queasy scene and I‘m now closing in on the finish line. But I think it‘ll be awhile before another reread of this one! 4y
MySharonaK @dariazeoli completely understood! Also - stirring clear of the film of course ! 4y

Librariana I happened upon your previous "penny per page" post and was very delighted by your concept. What a neat idea! Have you given any consideration to earning partial credit for donating 'owned' books that leave your shelves? Maybe at like 25% or 50%? Or did I miss that on your original post? I'm trying to honor the 1 in 1 out rule for myself! 4y
dariazeoli @Librariana Ooh, that‘s a good idea! The general guide is here: https://litsy.com/p/aUVBOFlWTkND but it‘s fine to tailor as you wish! I‘m doing 1/2 a penny for library pages and 3/4 a penny for pages on books acquired this year. I generally don‘t I haul books I don‘t at least try to read, but I think if you donate them, they deserve some credit. 4y

Thriftbooks came through this time - pretty good condition! I‘ll be rereading this for the first time in decades in February. I much preferred Dolores Claiborne; we‘ll see if that changes this time around!

In order to resume my #ChronologicalKingRead, I need a copy of the tagged book. I‘ve earned juuust enough to afford it thanks to whatever coupon my web browser found for me yesterday!

Here‘s hoping “Very Good” condition is accurate...

I can‘t believe I started my #chronologicalkingread over 4 years ago! Finally decided to add it to my reading spreadsheet. This year has been entirely too low on King. 2020 continues to be 💩

CocoReads That‘s an amazing spreadsheet. I‘ve never tried to read king in chronological order. Might be something to try sometime. It‘s a bit daunting though. 4y
TheBookHippie This is amazing. With you on the shit show 😫 4y
BoleyBooks I started out strong, but now find myself skipping ahead. I just finished It for the first time. I‘m super curious about Rose Madder and Duma Key. Needful Things is one of my favorites. 4y

Megabooks Pretty much. 4y
Reggie Did you read the article today that is making it harder for certain visas to be renewed. It covers all the foreign medical residents who are on the frontline of all the Covid response in hospitals. It‘s pretty disgusting. 4y

We‘re just over halfway through our month of Stephen King for #AuthorAMonth! It looks like most of us have been enjoying our books. I particularly liked his early work when I was a teen, and I love that we‘re reading him in October. What a perfect set up for Halloween!

Next month we go much lighter with Rainbow Rowell. Put in your library hold now 😊📚.
