Pickpick

Five years ago a high school senior disappeared. Although her body was never found, police decided that she was murdered by her boyfriend, who committed suicide a few days later. However, Pip - who is now a high school senior herself - has never believed that the boyfriend was the murderer. With the help of the boyfriend's younger brother, she sets out to reexamine the evidence. I really liked the format of this book, with parts of it Pip's notes⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) some in the form of transcripts of people she was interviewing, and other sections just regular third-person narration. It did drag a little in the middle, but I really did want to find out what happened and I liked the way the different pieces of evidence kept shifting the pointing finger. While the ending did make sense on the whole, I was actually convinced that it fit the personalities of the characters. There were also a few things ⬇ 1mo
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) I found kind of unbelievable/a big stretch. But on the whole, an enjoyable YA thriller, and I'll probably pick up the sequel soon.

This was a #TrappedinaHauntedHouse pick (thanks @Charityann !!) and also my list to read for the #AcquiredViaLitsy challenge @MatchlessMarie - it was gifted to me as part of the #Bestof2021Swap by @kellyann28 back in - you guessed it - January 2022!

MatchlessMarie Awesome! It seems to have a similar vibe to One of Us Is Lying series by Karen M McManus which I really enjoyed. 1mo

I loved this heartwarming story about the transformative power of an unlikely friendship. I didn‘t like either of the main characters at first, one was arrogant, grumpy and rude, and the other was weak and spineless. But as their friendship grew, they each also grew in positive and satisfying ways. By the end, I was cheering for both of them. Tip - Don‘t miss the author‘s note at the end!

I loved this book! It took me on a roller coaster of emotions. A perfect read for February, since much of the action takes place on Valentine‘s Day. I‘m so glad I chose this as my February #ReadOrDonate selection!

TheAromaofBooks I've enjoyed a couple of O'Leary's other books, but have been hesitant to pick this one up since it sounds like the main plot involves cheating. Did you feel like that aspect was handled well? 9mo

julieclair @TheAromaofBooks That was part of my roller coaster of emotions. I think you‘ll find it was handled appropriately. One tip: if you‘re tempted to bail… don‘t. 😘 (edited) 9mo
TheAromaofBooks haha I will keep it on the TBR then 😂 9mo
bookandbedandtea @TheAromaofBooks This is my favorite of O'Leary's books. As you read, whatever it is you think is happening isn't what's happening! As @julieclair says, if you start reading, don't stop. 9mo

Naked in Death | Nora Roberts, J. D. Robb

Mehso-so

I liked the concept and some of the characters, but this was overall a so-so read for me. The Evil Conservative trope got really old. And I just wasn't a fan of the way some of the storyline played out. I'm still planning to read the second book on the strength of how well I like Roberts's other writing, but we'll see how that books goes before I decide if I'm going to wade through the whole series.

TheAromaofBooks Thanks for hosting #IDLR @StayCurious @LiseWorks !! I've had these books on my TBR forever, so I'm honestly super glad for the nudge to pick them up!!

@robinb it appears you gave me this book back in March 2021 so I finally read it 😂 One book down for #AcquiredViaLitsy @MatchlessMarie !!

LiseWorks Don't forget when this book was written. And thanks for joining us. We will see you for the next book. This is one of my favorite series from Nora Roberts. Eve and Roarkes characters get better as the series continues. 10mo
StayCurious Yes I think as the series goes on, you‘ll grow attached to a lot of the side characters too 10mo

TheSpineView Great job for finishing. 💜📖 10mo
TheAromaofBooks @LiseWorks @StayCurious - Oh yes, I can definitely see several of the side characters developing. And I gave Roarke a lot of leeway for his grab'n'go kissing method considering the era 😂 10mo
robinb That‘s so funny! I had forgotten. 🤣🤣 I do hope you will give the series another chance. I think it might grow on you. 10mo
