Indiscretion: A Novel | Jude Morgan
post image
Pickpick

This book was a delight! The main character is a strong, resourceful, good-hearted woman with a witty sense of humor. Although the novel is lighthearted, there are several difficult situations and moral dilemmas which are dealt with realistically. The characters all seemed real. This is not just a “fluffy” romance. It has substance. 5⭐️

#HappyFiction @TheAromaofBooks @mabell @Chrissyreadit (Yes, I FINALLY managed to read it! 🙄🤪😂)

TheAromaofBooks Yay!! I genuinely love this book so much. The snark between the main characters is just fantastic. 1mo
julieclair @TheAromaofBooks I loved it too! It will be in the mail to you by the end of next week, once I get home from vacation. Just in time for you to pack it and move it, perhaps? 1mo
LeahBergen His regency books are all so good! 1mo
julieclair @LeahBergen This is the first of his that I have read, but it won‘t be the last! 1mo

My goals for the #OutWithTheOldInWithTheNew Readathon are:

1. Begin my three 2025 Year-long daily reads.

2. Finish at least two of the four books I‘m supposed to finish by the end of December. 😂

3. Begin reading the January books for #HashtagBrigade and #SundayBuddyRead .

Thanks for hosting, @Andrew65 ! Your Readathons always help me focus (and occasionally panic!) 😉

julieclair @TheAromaofBooks @mabell @Chrissyreadit Yes, that is indeed our #HappyFiction selection that I have been holding on to for a year… 🫣😳🤯 1mo
Ruthiella That‘s ambitious! Good luck . 👍 1mo

Great fun! Our heroine makes her way from Italy to post-Revolutionary France, to Regency England, outwitting various nefarious people in her life who wish to do her harm. Many adventures ensue!

It‘s on its way to you at long last, @TheAromaofBooks ! 🙄😬

@mabell @Chrissyreadit @TheAromaofBooks Looking forward to our next round of #HappyFiction 🙂 Here are some choices.

Are we starting in May, or taking a catch-up month? Snail mail or StoryGraph? 🤔

TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! Thanks for posting!!! I have also been thinking about this (even though I haven't yet read Willows or even checked SG to see if any of you have 😂). While there were things I did like about SG, I think overall I preferred sending the books in the mail. I'm down for another round either way. Thoughts? @Chrissyreadit @mabell 9mo
TheAromaofBooks Also my personal vote is for The Smile of a Stranger because I have really wanted to read some of Aiken's other historical novels, but I haven't read any of these so I would be happy to try any!! 9mo
Chrissyreadit @TheAromaofBooks i agree i like sending better- i think i would like if we tried a little book journal, to jot down as we read or at end of book… also still have to read wind in the willows. 9mo
Chrissyreadit I‘m good with Aiken! 9mo
julieclair @Chrissyreadit I love the book journal idea! How exactly would that work? Would we write in that, instead of in the margins? And I assume it would travel with the book? @mabell @TheAromaofBooks 9mo
mabell @julieclair @TheAromaofBooks @Chrissyreadit Well friends, I‘ve been in a quandary - I am not able to keep up with our reading, but I also don‘t want to miss out on our lovely group. Realistically, I‘m afraid I just won‘t be able to join in. 😕 9mo
Chrissyreadit @julieclair yes we would write in notebook instead of margins. 9mo
Chrissyreadit @mabell I understand busy! is there something that would make it more manageable? 9mo
mabell @Chrissyreadit Only not actually reading the book 🤣 9mo
julieclair @mabell I totally get it. You are in a season right now where free time for reading is hard to come by. Our group has indeed been so special, and our friendships can continue, group or no group. I can imagine how hard it was for you to decide you needed to leave, and I know we all respect that decision, even if it makes us a bit sad. The end of an era, lol! 💙💝💙😘 @Chrissyreadit @TheAromaofBooks 9mo
julieclair @TheAromaofBooks @Chrissyreadit I think we‘re all struggling a bit to keep up with the reading - witness the fact that none of us have started Wind in the Willows yet. (Although I definitely intend to read it, because it has been on my TBR forever.) Do we want to say a sweet goodbye to our group? Or continue it with just the three of us? 9mo
Chrissyreadit I am happy to continue- or take a break- or discontinue- I enjoy a group of light reads, even though my brain is not reading the way it did a few years ago. But i also know it can be one more thing for some people. Like every other situation i‘m finding i read the books in chunks, and when i “get into” the book it‘s easy to finish but slow starts even for good books are sometimes challenging me these days (more than they used to) tWITW is on seria 9mo
Chrissyreadit @julieclair @TheAromaofBooks i forgot to tag in above comment 🤪 9mo
julieclair @Chrissyreadit @TheAromaofBooks What if we were to continue, mailing the books and with a journal, but at a leisurely pace? For example, I would read the Aiken book, making notes in the journal. Whenever I finished it, I‘d mail it to Sarah. When she finished, she‘d mail it to Chrissy. When Chrissy finished, she‘d mail it back to me. Then I‘d choose a new book, and use the same journal. By using the same journal, we‘d get to see what those who⬇️ 9mo
julieclair came after us wrote about the prior book. No monthly pressure, just read at our own pace, or DNF if we can‘t get into it. 9mo
Chrissyreadit @julieclair i love that idea- and also ok with if we haven‘t started in the end of 4 weeks just mail or communicate? sometimes i do better with an end date- and sometimes having 6 weeks has helped. 9mo
mabell @julieclair Yes! It was a difficult decision, and it had made me sad. Our group and our books kept me company through many appointments! ❤️ 9mo
TheAromaofBooks @julieclair @Chrissyreadit - I love the idea of staying focused on one book, although maybe when the book gets back to Julie, she goes ahead and mails just the notebook to me and then I start with a new book, just so one person isn't in charge of providing all the books? haha we can work that out as we go along. I'm super flexible and love to see our group continue in some form. This would put us more at one book per quarter. No pressure @mabell 9mo
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) but just curious if that is a pace that would be more sustainable for you? I totally understand if not - sometimes life has to take priority over reading (so annoying haha)

So basically, I'm up for whatever, but I do really like the notebook idea!!
9mo
Chrissyreadit I think that sounds great! @TheAromaofBooks @julieclair 9mo
mabell @TheAromaofBooks @Chrissyreadit @julieclair I would love to stay in the group! Even if I don‘t get to the book, I could at least enjoy the journal comments 😂 9mo
Chrissyreadit @mabell YAY!!!! @TheAromaofBooks 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 @julieclair 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 9mo
TheAromaofBooks @mabell - Flipping through the journal could help you decide if the book is worth reading! 😂 9mo
TheAromaofBooks @Chrissyreadit @julieclair @mabell - So Julie, are you good with finding a journal and picking the book to set us off on our new round of reading?? A heavy responsibility on your shoulders 😂 9mo
julieclair Yay @mabell ! 😁🎉😄🎊🙌🎉🎉🎉🎉 And yes, @TheAromaofBooks , I‘m up to the task! 💪 I really love the journal idea, @Chrissyreadit ! ✍️📝 I think we have a great plan. We‘ll start with Aiken‘s The Smile of the Stranger. We‘ll mail in our usual order, Julie-Sarah-Elizabeth-Chrissy-Julie. Once the book & journal get back to me, I‘ll mail the journal to Sarah, and she can start our next round. Hooray for our happy little group! 🥰 9mo
TheAromaofBooks Love it when a plan comes together!!! 9mo

@Chrissyreadit @TheAromaofBooks @mabell I‘m not very far into this month‘s #HappyFiction book yet, but I‘ve lost track of our discussion. Are we doing it on StoryGraph, or did we decide to do something else? 🤪

mabell So relatable 🤣 🙋‍♀️ It‘s on Storygraph this time https://app.thestorygraph.com/readalongs/a8095fe9-5674-45f7-9ab6-b5a10cd41f2f 10mo
julieclair @mabell Thank you! Glad you can relate! 🤪 10mo
TheAromaofBooks In the final section of Powder & Patch I did post the link to the April SG discussion for Wind in the Willows, too!! @mabell @Chrissyreadit (edited) 10mo

julieclair @TheAromaofBooks 👍👍 So excited for Wind in the Willows! Would you believe I‘ve never read it? 10mo
TheAromaofBooks It's been years since I have read it, but I remember thinking it was super sweet and adorable. I'm really excited about rereading it, and since it starts with Mole abandoning his spring cleaning because the weather is so nice, it seems like a good read for this time of year 😂 10mo
julieclair @TheAromaofBooks Abandoning Spring cleaning? I‘m a Mole fan already! 🤩 10mo

I loved this heartwarming story about the transformative power of an unlikely friendship. I didn‘t like either of the main characters at first, one was arrogant, grumpy and rude, and the other was weak and spineless. But as their friendship grew, they each also grew in positive and satisfying ways. By the end, I was cheering for both of them. Tip - Don‘t miss the author‘s note at the end!

An absolute delight! This was my first Joan Aiken novel, but it won‘t be my last. Great pick, @TheAromaofBooks !

Chrissyreadit IAgree! 1y
TheAromaofBooks Yay!!! So glad you enjoyed it!!! I've had mixed results with Aiken's other books (although Wolves of Willoughby Chase is one of my all-time favorites). Also, I got your package!!! Thank you so much for your encouraging note and the little goodies for Mary Rose!!!! She has a small Amazon list but not much on it right now because she is staying with Dad and Mom so she doesn't have a lot of emergency needs. But thank you for checking!! ⬇ 1y

TheAromaofBooks Whenever she moves back into her apartment (or a different one) we are going to throw her a shower because that is when she will actually need new stuff like towels and kitchen supplies and odds and ends. Right now she just doesn't have a place to store things so we are kind of waiting to see what info the landlords get so we have some kind of timeline for her life!! The landlords are waiting to hear from insurance people and contractors so ⬇ 1y
TheAromaofBooks no one is exactly sure what will happen when 😂 But thank you so much!!!! ❤ ❤ ❤ 1y
julieclair @TheAromaofBooks I'm glad the package arrived safe and sound! I love the idea of a shower! So smart. If you are inviting any non-local people, I'd love an invitation whenever you have it. 😉 1y
TheAromaofBooks Absolutely!! Thank you so much for your thoughtfulness. It's been overwhelming!!! And even though Mary Rose isn't technically homeless... she has still lost her home and it's very emotional. 1y
julieclair @TheAromaofBooks I can only imagine. 💙😢💙 1y
