My Heyer loving friend brought this one and The Nonesuch to our last book group meeting for me to borrow. This is an early one, and I think it shows, but I had a thoroughly good time with it any way. I found French polished Philip very amusing indeed.
This was not my favorite Heyer. It was a bit too silly at times. And I have learned that I want to like the female protagonist in a Heyer novel - I want to root for her and see her happy - and I just wasn‘t a fan of Cleone.

This was not my favorite Heyer- but a lot of that is because I do not speak French and was too tired to use google translate. The story was a Grease in reverse- and I liked the overall end result. Everyone wants Phillip to change- but when he does they realize the original was better.
@Chrissyreadit @TheAromaofBooks @mabell I‘m not very far into this month‘s #HappyFiction book yet, but I‘ve lost track of our discussion. Are we doing it on StoryGraph, or did we decide to do something else? 🤪
This book got way better after page 90.
Sixty pages in. Do I want to spend my time reading a 1920s historical romance?
I‘m leaning toward “no” but I‘m going to give it another few chapters.
I'm not sure which chapter title wins. "Philip Delivers Himself of a Rondeau" or
"Philip Justifies His Chin"
There is a lot French in it, more than I remember. But the story is so much fun. That I remembered correctly.
5/5 💫 What an utterly delightful treat of a book! It gave #allthefeels and it‘s fairly rare I find a book that does so. Such a shame it‘s so short a story. Phillip and Cleone are delightful MCs and it‘s near impossible not to adore Phillip! https://mysticreadsbookblogblog.wordpress.com/2018/05/03/powder-and-patch-by-geo... #georgian #historicalfiction #georgetteheyer #booklover #bookblogger #bookaddict #bibliophile
So, after a stressful day I‘m dedicating my evening to self-care. I‘m also going to watch Hampstead and finish this book, like I tried to last night but couldn‘t because of poorly baby. 👶 My little one is feeling better today and is fast asleep so fingers crossed 🤞 #Historicalfiction #georgetteheyer #georgian #currentread #booklover #bookblogger #bibliophile
Having an absolutely horrid day today, it‘s only 9:55am and I‘ve already cried three times. I‘m so glad my baby is at nursery and not here to see me so upset. I hate days like this but it feels a bit better if I unload so I‘m sorry for this emotional nonbookish post.
My evening shall consist of finishing this most wonderful book, eating a salad bowl 🥗, drinking copious amounts of coffee and watching the film Hampstead (Has anyone seen this!? It looks so heartwarming!) and the starting the tv show Outlander finally. What are your Wednesday evening plans? (And how divine is this cover!?) #historicalfiction #georgian #booklover #bookblogger #bibliophile #bookish #bookaddict #currentlyreading #prettycover
This book is giving me #allthefeels and not because of the “romance”. I completely feel for dear Phillip, that poor misguided fellow. He shouldn‘t have to change who he is to be accepted by the woman he wishes to marry... heck! He shouldn‘t wish to marry someone who wishes such changes in him. If she don‘t want you at your “worst” then she don‘t deserve you at your “best”, babe! #historicalfiction #georgian #booklover #bookblogger #regency
I have to start my final assignment of this academic year today, then it‘s all about revision for my exam in June. My assignment is on the holocaust and as it‘s the last time I‘ll be likely to study this fascinating and important event, I‘m anxious to get started. That doesn‘t of course mean that I won‘t be certain to pick up my book now and again. Reading breaks 😉💛 #history #historicalfiction #georgian #booklover #bookblogger
On the advice of the many, I‘m trying out monthly TBR stacks to make my huge TBR smaller and more manageable. This is May‘s TBR stack of nine books with Despised and Rejected which is yet to arrive. I average around 10-11 books a month usually so I think nine is a realistic amount. I‘m going to stick with nine a month. #maytbr #booklover #bookblogger #bookish #bibliophile #history #nonfiction #historicalfiction #georgian #victorian
Contribution 8 to @bookriot #RiotGrams October challenge #bookslovedasateen. The fairly tattered condition of some of them is a sign how far behind me my teenage years are !!( And not that I treat my books badly :-p)
One reviewer has called Heyer's Regency romances "Sparkling" - what could be happier than sparkle?!?
