pickMy mom asked why I read this, and why I‘m reading everything from her this year. As she sees it, it would be too depressing. Reading this had the exact opposite effect for me. It reminded me that we still have incredible minds thinking deeply about how to solve the problems of our nation. Yes, it‘s heartbreaking to me that she isn‘t president. But, while we lost her from filling that role, we didn‘t lose her brilliant mind. She can still teach us.
One of my goals specific to 2020: read all of Hillary‘s books. I think/hope the catharsis will serve as a salve for the whole awful mess that is this election year. Starting number 2!
Day 84 #AfterMaria — still no power or internet at home. Back on generator power at school, as service here went down (again) yesterday afternoon. It doesn‘t feel like Christmas. It feels overwhelming. 😔

I live in a Small place; a small town and yesterday this happened less than 20 mins from my front door. If you do not understand why minorities are so devasted and scared after this election I present to you exhibit A! I just can't wrap my head around any of this....#election2016
Like many of you out there, I'm scared. I'm a queer, Latinx woman from an immigrant family. I've seen some of the progress this country has made in my short lifetime (e.g. the repeal of DOMA), but now I don't know what to think. Then I remember that with progress comes backlash. And people like you, people like us, are not alone. It's time for us to stand together and never forget our vision of a more accepting US. Never stop fighting for it.

I am voting today for my Grams; today at 73 she suffers from the effects of Dementia. She is also a life long Democrat. And voted for Hillary in the 2008 Primary. I know she'll be very excited to know Hillary won. (also Clinton is the only candidate to come up with a plan to support and fund Alzheimer's research) #weforshe #imwithher
I voted! I'm wearing white and a gold "Votes for Women" bow to honor women's suffrage. Voting equality has a fraught history in this country, so today I am spending time thinking about all those who not only fought for my voting rights, but also for the voting rights of other marginalized groups around the country. ?⚪️?

Today at our school we had an activity called Communities of the World, led by the social studies department. My 11th grade US History students campaigned for Trump and Clinton, and held a mock election for students from 6th-12th. Results showed Clinton winning by a landslide.
