I appreciated that the plot in this book was alot more concise owing to the fact that Flavia was not traipsing around the village but was confined to her home when solving this crime. It helped the author focus on only a few characters and flesh out some relationships a little more.

Smarkies She started off as someone who was uppity and entitled. But when you learn what she did during the war, you learn her other facets and perhaps why sheet out on her "face". 5y

Smarkies There was definitely a huge crack in their demeanor in this book. Not sure whether because if was Christmas or whether if we will see some thawing in the future. I am interested in this relationship though - the one between the sisters. Would like to see how it plays out. 5y

janeycanuck @Smarkies what confused me is how Feely (or Daffy, can‘t remember) says something to Flavia about “do you really think I hate you?” and doesn‘t seem to understand how Flavia could think that, despite the terrible way the sisters treat each other. I‘m also amazed that Daffy, at 13, teams up more with Feely (17) than Flavia (11) 5y

Smarkies I think the author used the house well in this novel. This was because the house was the main location of the whole book. Normally the murder happens out of the house - so Flavia has to traipse all around the town. In this case, everyone was in the house so she didn't have to wander anywhere. In fact, that is what I enjoyed about this book. 5y

janeycanuck @Smarkies Buckshaw really comes alive in this one. Bradley is so good at writing setting as a character. I really enjoyed the novel being focused on the house, too. 5y

BridgetteM This was my favorite so far! It was a great locked-room mystery. What better place for a locked-room mystery than Buckshaw, with it‘s history practically bursting from every room? 5y

Smarkies Oh! It never occurred to me to be scared for her regarding her chemistry experiments as I think she has a good handle on her knowledge of that to know what she can do and what she can't. I am generally thrilled when she does talk about it. 5y

janeycanuck @Smarkies Same... She seems so knowledgeable and I love the science-y bits. But I wonder if she ever has mishaps we don‘t hear about. And I would love a prequel on how she started in on the chemistry and what learning it all was like! 5y

Finally finished this one, feels like forever. I listened to the previous ones on Libby but my library didn‘t have this one! Now I‘ll move back to audio because I really enjoy them! Still this one was very fun and Flavia makes me laugh often!
