Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library (Bound for Schools & Libraries)
Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library (Bound for Schools & Libraries) | Chris Grabenstein
A "New York Times" Bestseller In this cross between "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" and "A Night in the Museum, " Agatha Award winner Chris Grabenstein uses rib-tickling humor to create the perfect tale for his quirky characters. Kyle Keeley is the class clown and a huge fan of all games--board games, word games, and particularly video games. His hero, Luigi Lemoncello, the most notorious and creative gamemaker in the world, just so happens to be the genius behind the construction of the new town library. Lucky Kyle wins a coveted spot as one of twelve kids invited for an overnight sleepover in the library, hosted by Mr. Lemoncello and riddled with lots and lots of games. But when morning comes, the doors stay locked. Kyle and the other kids must solve every clue and figure out every secret puzzle to find the hidden escape route! Don't miss bonus content in the back of the book--extra puzzles, an author Q&A, and more! "Pick up "Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library" for your kids to discover the coolest library in the world." --James Patterson, #1 "New York Times" bestselling author

🌼 Leverage (and the sequel Leverage: Redemption) are my go-to rewatches; I love a good heist!

🪻I really enjoyed Sorry, and my husband and I acquired it for ourselves when moving into our own house!

🌹Loved the cross between a library and Wonka's factory as the setting for an escape room game in the tagged book.

Read this for #BBRC - A little learning is a dangerous thing

7th graders write an essay to spend a night in the brand new library. They wake up and realize they‘re locked in the next morning and have to solve a bunch of puzzles and play games to make it out of the library.

It was pretty fun. I think the puzzles would have been better to see in print, so I could play along, but still a great read.

tpixie Yes. I did the audiobook also and think print would be better for the puzzles. I saw the author in 2018 at the National Book Festival in Washington DC. He gave a great presentation so I had to read it. It‘s kind of like a kids version of 1y
Laughterhp @tpixie I‘ve never read Ready Player One! 1y
tpixie @Laughterhp I really enjoyed it even though I‘m not a gamer at all!! And I don‘t recall regretting doing the audiobook. 1y
LibrarianRyan Ready player one is better as a book. The movie isn‘t bad, and some of the changes are cool. But ehee 1y

Set in an alternate world where one Mr Lemoncello is Nintendo, Blizzard and Mattel combined. He got his start in a small Ohio town that for the last 12 years has not had a public library. To celebrate the opening he invites 12 year olds of the town to submit essays for a chance to have a lock in sleepover in the library before the rest of the public get a chance. But he has a game in mind that is different to what they are expecting. 3/5 Stars.

This was fun, but to fully appreciate it, think I needed to have been in 4th-6th grade. Which is fine. That‘s the target audience! I enjoy MG novels, but just wished this one had a bit more to it. (Side note: when my husband saw the author‘s last name, he commented that it sounds like the name of a character in a sexual harassment prevention video. 🤣)

“Reading can take you around the world” or to a magical library like the one in Escape From Mr. Lemoncello‘s Library by Chris Grabenstein. This book is pure fun & entertainment. It reminded me of Pagemasters, Jumanji, the Small World Ride, & Hunger Games all mixed with the most amazingly technologically brilliant surrounding: the new Alexandriaville Public Library. If you have a child or you‘re just young at heart this book is a must read! #JFYA

I thought this was so much fun. I picked it up because my son is reading it in school. Twelve 12 years old compete in a game to escape from the new library in town. Fast paced, entertaining, and gives young readers a chance to stretch their mental muscles along with the characters. I especially enjoyed how none of the characters were evil for evil‘s sake - they each had their motivation which was well explained in the story.

A book for book lovers! I listened to the audiobook with my boys (5 and 7) and they enjoyed it. 7yo: I like that they had teams! 5yo: I don‘t like Charles and Andrew!
Personally I didn‘t like how the kids were “types” like the nerdy brother w the decidedly needy voice. I also wish the accents were voiced better. To me Lemoncello sounded more South Asian than Italian

LibrarianRyan Hummmm. I loved this book, but I wasn't listening to it. I think I would agree with your assements. 6y

Almost a 🤘🏻🤘🏻. Some of the characters are flat/stock characters and the story gets predictable but I really enjoyed this puzzle-filled tale of a library lock-in turned live-action board game. This is a love-letter to books and reading and being a good player on a team, not just a winner.

I was super happy the smarmy, old-money bro character got his comeuppance, although I was hoping he‘d be the one to get stuck in the book-sorting machine.

ravenlee There are two more books! They're both pretty good, though the first is best. 7y
ravenlee Oh, and there's a bonus puzzle (which would likely be impossible with an audiobook, now that I think about it) in the chapter openings. 7y
