We have really been struggling trying to get Teens interested in our library lately so we have decided to take a new approach. We have created a library tiktok. I am slowly learning how to create/navigate it. It definitely takes some patience. Now, I should probably start the book club book in hopes that someone might actually show up.

I‘ve been fond of Blake since “Anna Dressed in Blood,” and while this one certainly wasn‘t bad—and just an easy afternoon‘s worth of reading—I do feel like it could have gone weirder, darker, and just all the Blake things. The ultimate explanation for how Marie got coated in blood is good, but not quite spooky enough. That said, I‘d still recommend this one for spooky season!

This was an amazing read. Just when I thought I knew what was going to happen, and then it completely caught me off guard. The ending is what really caught me off guard. It did not end how I thought it would. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is a YA, horror, historical crime novel set in America. It's a gruesome at times but still interesting. A 15 year old girl is arrested for possibly being involved in a string of murders. The bodies are all drained of blood. It's gripping.

Let me start by saying I am a complete chicken; I cannot read/watch/hear scary horror things. Next: This book was thrilling & full of unsuspecting twists. I now believe in creatures that roam the night with vigilance. This story terrified me to my core with something raw, tangible, & completely human. Many times I found myself a little too on edge. This book & Marie's story swallowed me whole, and I am in awe of this story & its beautiful telling.

"Seventeen-year-old nobody from nowhere, who wanted to be a journalist someday but hadn't gotten further than delivering papers. Unqualified. Untested. Take your pick of descriptors that mean a kid in over his head."

I'm not one for scary, horror, thriller books or movies but this story caught my attention in the blink of an eye and I cannot wait to read this thrilling, epic adventure story full of suspense and scary curiosity

Not at all what I was expecting. This YA murder mystery, with a Criminal Minds meets SVU vibe, is more about the Horror(s) that people are capable of when they‘ve been hurt than it is about jump scares or supernatural beings. Though it‘s true that vampires have always been about power & sexual politics (which is why it was so thrilling that the first vampire featured on Buffy was female…but I digress). A slow read with some style issues.👇🏻

monalyisha 1/2: I‘ve never read Kendare Blake before…& I wasn‘t bowled over. This felt pretty dry with a lot more telling than showing. I also wonder about the choice to only write from a male character‘s POV when part of the problem *is* the male gaze. Does Blake‘s authorial choice help to drive the point home? Or, is it a cop out to maintain the mystery? (edited) 3y
monalyisha 2/2: I appreciated Marie‘s insistence that *she* be the one to decide which parts of her story were important and which weren‘t, & Blake‘s overall focus on the dangers of womanhood (both as victim and perpetrator). Her message about the public‘s limited imagination (when it comes to gender & other, equally fictitious topics) is a strong one. (edited) 3y
Librariana Very interesting thoughts and valid points! It sounded like it had a promising premise/setup with the Criminal Minds/SVU vibes. Shame it didn't quite deliver. 3y

LeeRHarry I read this author‘s Three Dark Crowns series and loved it but was definitely underwhelmed by this one. The author is bringing out a book based on the Buffyverse, later this year I think. (edited) 3y

Did I host the first meeting of our new, horror-themed book club for teens at the Library today? I did.

Did anyone come? They did not. 🙈

But hey, they missed out on a lively (or undead?) discussion about serial killers & gender, a thrilling video by Ask a Mortician‘s Caitlin Doughty about New England‘s *very real* “Vampire Panic,” blood-filled (ok…Cherry Cordial-flavored) Hershey‘s Kisses, & a newspaper flower craft. I was READY to…slay.

Brooke_H Oh noooo! Maybe they‘ll come next time… 3y

167 of 2021. The midwest is plagued by a string of murders which lead up to the last one in Minnesota. At the scene they find a girl soaked in blood. Could she be the killer or is there some other explanation? This was a little anticlimactic. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

A serial killer's rampage keeps the nation breathless as they follow the news in 1958 America. For an aspiring young journalist, he expects the papers to be as close as he'll get to the case from his tiny Midwest nowhere town. Right? Wrong.
The plot was compelling, the characters were well developed, the writing kept me drawn in & hooked. But I've read this author before & my expectations were sky high. A good read, but I wanted more.

Linsy Im excited for this one! 3y

Book 13 for October. Going against the grain here. This was a decent read shows how hazy the line between good and evil is. However be warned the ending isn‘t a “Boom! Here‘s the ending” kinda end. It kinda leaves it up to interpretation. Which might be why people aren‘t a total fan of the book.

Does a DNF count for #teamslaughter #scarathalon2021 This is kind of boring. Read for about 2 hours. If it does count, I‘m not sure it fits the theme or not

KristiAhlers I almost picked this one up this afternoon at the bookstore. Carried it around with me for a bit and ultimately put it back. Sounds like I made the right choice. 3y

I was a little bit disappointed in this book. I had high expectation. The story wasn't at all what I expected. It was strange. It was entertaining at times but the ending didn't make any sense. The ending was open to your imagination. Whatever you believe Marie's truth was, it was your ending.

Currently reading this. It looks like it‘ll be quick read for me.

BekahB I just started this one today! I‘m excited to read a new horror book by Blake. 3y
BookishGirl06 @BekahB I tried 3 dark crowns but didn‘t finish it 3y
BekahB @BookishGirl06 same here. I like her writing, but fantasy isn‘t my go-to genre so I‘m pretty specific with what I like. I really enjoyed her first book, Anna Dressed in Blood, and it‘s sequel, Girl of Nightmares. I read them a very long time ago, so I don‘t know if they hold up, but I credit those books and Rick Yancey‘s, The Monstrumologist, for getting me into reading YA horror. 👻 3y

Brimming with thoughtfulness and emotion, All These Bodies is a story of good and bad and that fuzzy line in between. While it‘s largely character driven, with its focus zooming in on the relationship between Michael and Marie, there are plenty of eerie things happening in the background. The graphic descriptions are minimal, as the terror really lies within what people cannot see, understand, or control.

Inspired by real events, this YA thriller starts quickly & keeps going. It‘s the 1950s & there‘s a string of murders across the Midwest in which the victims are drained of all their blood. And then a 15-year-old girl is arrested. Who is she? What is her role (if any)?!? What‘s the truth?!? While well-written & generally entertaining, the author made some choices that requires ALL your disbelief to be suspended. Teens will likely enjoy this one.
