This was a cute and clever little mystery, set against Pride & Prejudice. As a fun read, it did well enough, but there were modernisms that slipped in, and the premise itself stretched credulity maybe a little too much. Not that I didn‘t enjoy reading it, but I probably won‘t bother picking up the rest of the series. Although I did enjoy a pirate Lady Catherine De Bourgh😂 And the cover is 👌🏻

17 y/o Lizzie wants to work in her father‘s law firm, but first has to prove herself to him. She decides to solve the murder of Bingley‘s brother-in-law, for which Bingley is accused. Along the way, she butts heads with Darcy, who is Bingley‘s counsel. The author took a few liberties that she explains in a note, so it‘s not completely accurate to the era, but the story was so much fun!

I have mixed feelings on this... I think. They aren't very strong either way. It was basically Pride & Prejudice, but with murder. I did enjoy listening to it, but it was also really easy to guess which people to be suspicious of. I'll probably continue the series because it wasn't bad, I'm just indifferent towards it.

#Rushathon #SeriesLove2023

My last book of November-a YA mystery adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. It was a light & easy read & enjoyable even if (noted by the author) not truly accurate to the era. I liked what the author did with the characters & the mystery was good & had a few different twists. I‘ll read the other books in this Jane Austen Murder Mystery series. (Sense and Second-Degree Murder & Manslaughter Park—gotta love those titles!)

Neither loved it or hated it; mostly just meh, middle of the road. Felt like it couldn't make up it mind if it wanted to be Historical Fiction or Modern Day.

Ended up listening to some of book and wasn't crazy about Narrator. I would try next in the Series but would go with Library book instead of buying. #AusteninAugust

It wasn‘t what I expected, but it was an enjoyable light read. I wasn‘t sure at first with the liberties the author took with changing the characters and how they interacted with each other, but once I got used to it, I enjoyed it. I do like a murder mystery and I‘ll never tire of P&P spine offs. Now that I know what to expect I think it will be easier to shift into the flow of the next book. I also like who the author made the villains.

This is barely a pick, although the ending was quite satisfying. Imagine the characters of P&P in a world where they are lawyers, with Lizzy‘s powers of deduction more fitting into a cozy mystery book than a true mystery. What saved this book from the so-so is the pirate angle, which I thought was interesting. 2/5 stars, good to read when sick.

I seem to be on a roll with the "it was ok" books... another low pick. This one takes the characters of P&P and moves them into middle class. When Bingley is suspected of murder, Darcy and Lizzie are in competition over whose law firm will represent him- Darcy or Lizzie's father. Lizzie of course dreams of practicing law herself and decides to find the true murderer. All sorts of hijinks ensue...

Now this was a good murder mystery novel. The ending had a perfect measure of not expecting the murderer and not having the murderer connected in some extraordinary way. I‘ve never read Pride and Prejudice, so I have no idea how it compares to that, but it was a great mystery and romance. 5🌟

Despite Mrs. Bennet's best efforts, Lizzie doesn't want to get married- she wants to become a barrister at her dad's law office. Despite Mr. Bennet's best efforts to discourage her, Lizzie takes it upon herself to try to figure out who murdered Mr. Bingley's brother-in-law. The top suspect? Mr. Bingley.

I love a retelling that gives a little twist to the original story. The twist here is that Elizabeth Bennet wants her father to allow her to work in the family‘s law practice, which leads her to try to solve a murder with Darcy showing up at a rival law firm. I will definitely read the next book in the series.

A very reserved pick for me. Like “A Study in Charlotte,” this book would‘ve done better without the comparison to one of the greatest novels ever written. The characters didn‘t have much in common at all with their namesakes, and I can imagine Austen turning in her grave knowing how her heroine is being handled, but it was a fun, fast- paced read and a nice way to spend the afternoon.

This was a fun and mysterious romp through regency London. Although it is not historically accurate for the time (the author admits this) there is still a lot of detail about the period and life in London. I look forward to reading more from the Jane Austin Murder Mystery series.

Thanks to #Netgalley I‘d gotten a chance to listen to this one before its publication. It‘s a YA whodunnit spin on Jane Austen‘s Pride and Prejudice novel. I thought it was a lot of fun and it looks like the author has a couple more of Austen‘s books she‘ll be doing this too as well. I‘m excited, I love a fun mystery.

A charming retelling. Price remixes the characters & circumstances in just the right way, making for a unique experience that still feels familiar & comfortable. Lizzie & Darcy read a bit younger than in the original, but still experience the same kind of character growth. The touches of reflection on social class, justice, & sexism are just enough to make their point w/o becoming heavy-handed. I'm delightedly craving the next.

I have never really been a fan of Pride and Prejudice. Ive seen multiple versions of the movie and loved them, but I have never made it through the book. And unfortunately I didn‘t make it through this one either. I like the premise. Elizabeth bennett wants to be a lawyer and practice with her dad, but she is a lady and lady‘s done work. Mystery abound, but it‘s not entertaining enough to the listerner to care enough to finish the story.

lisslalissar I liked this one, but I'm not sure if I would have stuck with it in print. For fulfilling curbside bundle requests, it was a good background book. 4y
LibrarianRyan @lisslalissar I agree as background it was okay but then I went on vacation for a week and had no desire to pick it back up or start it again 4y

#Netgalley users, has anyone else tried the new audio review copies? This one is a “voice galley” rather than the upcoming audiobook: it‘s just a synthetic voice reading the galley aloud. I‘m... interested, but not sure I‘ll use them regularly. It‘s nice to make a dent on my Netgalley tbr while doing housework (aka how I do most reading currently), but also the synthetic voice is VERY synthetic, and I‘m spoiled too high quality audio these days...

Daisey I have not yet requested any for this very reason. The narrator is an important aspect of an audiobook, and I think a synthetic voice would impact my appreciation of the experience. 4y
lisslalissar I'm about halfway through this one and I'm pleasantly surprised by the synthetic voice. It flows much more naturally than I expected, not sounding stilted or awkward. I spend a lot more time at work now on tasks that don't require undivided attention than I did pre-covid, so these audiobooks are great way to keep up on what's new. 4y
sprainedbrain I‘ve listened to two so far... this one with the synthetic voice, but the other book I listened to had a real narrator. 4y

This was a fun read! Jane Austen meets a murder mystery and amateur sleuth! As a mass consumer of female sleuths going against gender norms of society...I loved this. I liked the liberties Tirzah Price took in order to create Jane's personality and conflict that wasn't just a “being a woman sucks in this time period.“ The romance with Darcy was very present and I liked the banter/tension/conflict between them.
I did NOT see the twists at the end.
