This was my first book from R. L. Stine. Perhaps I should have started with the original Fear Street, but I hope to get to that at some point. I really enjoyed this as an audiobook. The narrator did a great job at getting the tone of the story right. I do wish the ending had been a bit different, I still feel like we don't get some sort of explanation to some parts of the story. But, overall, I really enjoyed it.

I saw Brendan Fear walk into the diner where I worked with some of his friends, but I had no idea how my life would change that night.

Getting into the Halloween spirit by picking up a more recent Fear Street book. I was obsessed with this series as a kid, LOVED the movies last year, and am curious what he did with them in the between.

This is a mid pick for me. I really enjoyed the whole vibe this book let on. Ghost stories, party games, unsuspecting victims, trapped on and island. There was a lot of predictability but, I mean, it's Stine...of course there is 🤣 It was fun.

I was such a huge fan of R.L. Stone‘s original Fear Street books as well as Christopher Pike when I was in middle school/early high school and I‘m so glad Netflix has started turning some of them into shows! This first book in the revamped Fear Street series was just what I expected and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Nothing mind blowing or too twisted but just teenagers being teenagers and scares for all. 🌟🌟🌟🌟 #teamslaughter #scarathlon2022

Book 90🎧 3.5⭐️

First book from the Fear Street relaunch collection!

I think I still love the oldies the best but this was a good one!

Brendan Fier invites everyone from class to Fier Island for his newly created haunted birthday party game. But attendees and the birthday boy get a bit more than they bargained for!🩸🩸

I grew up reading Point Horror books, many of which were by R L Stine, so I was interested to see what this ‘reboot‘ was like.

It was pretty much the same: the pretty-but-can‘t-see-it main character, the annoying goofball, the attractive guy who could be a deranged serial killer, etc. It‘s entertaining if you can suspend your disbelief. 3⭐️

BeansPage Lol I loved the book. Was cute & short but still creepy. Classic Stine writing 🤘🏻 6y
laundry_piles @TheReadingMermaid I agree, it was totally classic Stine. I felt like I was 10 again and it probably would've creeped me out then. A little cheesy now but I loved it 6y

BookwormAHN @laundry_piles @TheReadingMermaid I also loved it. Definitely classic Stine 😸 6y
laundry_piles Whose your favorite or least favorite character? 6y
Craftylikefox This brought me back to the classic Stine writing as well. There were some parts I cringed at. Usually when they used slang. The slang seemed more early 90s but it was supposed to be current day. This would had me on edge when I was younger. I enjoy taking that ride back. (edited) 6y
laundry_piles @Craftylikefox completely agree about the slang. I think I questioned once or twice when it was supposed to be taking place. 6y
laundry_piles I'm glad so many people still enjoyed it! 6y
JoScho Totally fun nostalgic read but I agree with @Craftylikefox about the slang and the dialogue in general was pretty rough but it was a fun read and I know ten year old me would have been on pins and needles while reading it. 6y
Craftylikefox @laundry_piles I am looking forward to reading Don‘t Stay Up Late! @JoScho Little me would have been very spooked by the story. 6y

If this isn‘t the most 20-teens dedication, then I don‘t know what is! This was a fun, quick read that gave me all the nostalgic feels. I devoured goosebumps and fear street books as a kid. It‘s super silly, and obviously not the best in horror, but I enjoyed the cheesiness.

Okay, this one is a pick purely for nostalgic reasons. It was like reuniting with an old friend, and it made me feel like a teenager again. I LOVED the Fear Street books and devoured every single one my school library had. This book had the same feel and writing of the ones from my youth. It was a very fun journey down memory lane. 😍

This was such a throwback! I loved reading the Goosebumps books when I was a kid, which is why I decided to join in on the #FearStreet #BuddyRead.

This book was okay, the plot was a little silly and I didn‘t really care for the back and forth dialogue between the kids. I plan to continue on for the Buddy Read though.

JoScho I am about halfway through this one and I agree about the dialogue. 6y
laundry_piles I totally agree! I think I just loved it for the pure nostalgia of it all. The plot and dialogue is a little "young" and simple I guess. I'm sure they're all that way but I anticipated that. Still super fun! 6y

I read a lot Fear Street as a kid and was looking forward to this. At first I liked it, even though I think the idea for the first 3/4 was taken from one of my favorite 80s horror movies. I could get over that but the last 1/4 went a different direction and just left me feeling meh. This falls between so-so and pan for me. #screamathon

Was this book cheesy and predictable? Of course! It's an RL Stine book, I wasn't reading it expecting to actually be scared (they are children's stories my mom was reading me goosebumps before I was 5 😂), I was reading for the nostalgia which I what I got.

It's been A Long Time since I've read an R.L. Stine and I'm not sure if I remember them being scarier than this because I was so young or because this one is really less scary? I did enjoy reading this but it felt more predictable than I was expecting which was a bit of a let down!
