This book had a hold on me from beginning to very end. As always, Sager's writing is impeccable, creating characters with depth, a detailed and storied setting, and a storyline that leaves you guessing (and more often than not, completely wrong), until the very last page

3.75⭐
•The premise of this story is rather compelling and it pulled me in immediately. Where the story goes from there was even rather interesting…but the ending left me underwhelmed. Overall though, I would still say it was a worthwhile book.
•Johanna Parker‘s narration was decent at times and atrocious at others…her whiny, pitchy, crying was super annoying.

I loved Mr Ripley years ago, and I‘ve wanted to read more by Patricia Highsmith ever since.

This one reminds me of Ripley in its setting: rich ruthless people living a lazy life and hating each other.

Melinda and Vic are married but she‘s having lovers on the side all the time. It‘s a matter of time until Vic is fed up with the situation.
I wanted to know what happened but it wasn‘t such a rewarding read as Ripley. A light pick.

ChaoticMissAdventures This is on my shortlist for as soon as I get done with these dang longlist prizes. I read Price of Salt in 23 and the first Ripley last year and I want to read everything she has written now. This one is sitting on my nightstand. 4h

Ethan and Sutton don‘t have the perfect marriage. They‘ve each kept secrets, then a tragedy drives a deeper wedge. Then one morning Ethan awakes and Sutton is gone. Thus starts the twisty novel where we eventually get multiple perspectives. I really enjoyed this.

1. Goodish. Physically well but mentally/emotionally all over the place.
2. Always bad. I've been an insomniac pretty much all my life.
3. As a kid to YA, I walked/talked in sleep, so I can't take Rx sleep meds. Ive tried every otc/home remedy & nothing worked. The sleep clinic suggested cannabis & it works. My husband tells friends I take 2 hits & pass out in 5 minutes. It really is the only thing that works.

@Kerrbearlib

TheBookHippie I‘ve never slept either. Life long struggle. 1d

I figured out most of the twisty bits per usual with Kubica and per usual it did not ruin the story at all.
Another good one that kept me hooked and wanting to know how it all played out.
I like her writing and story telling. Worth the effort 👍

LoverOfLearning Looks like a good one! I agree sometimes when I figure out the plot it doesn't ruin the story for me either unless it's done in a weird or amature way. 1d

Duma Key: A Novel | Stephen King

It only took me 16 years to get around to reading this!
The premise is a bit silly, but as usual, King creates a compelling story with fully fleshed out characters.

LoverOfLearning Just started my third SK book. Read the first two (Misery and Dolores Claiborne) within the last few months. Currently listening to Shawshake 2d
LoverOfLearning Oops Shawshank Redemption on audio. It's heavy. I'm guessing the movie is better? 2d
bookaholic1 @LoverOfLearning the movie is awesome, but in the book there is always more 1d
DavidDiamond @LoverOfLearning It's been awhile since I read the short story, but the movie is excellent. One of the better King adaptations. 1d

Dolores Claiborne | Stephen King

I devoured this audiobook. Dolores is such a wild and humorous character, she definitely had me hooked the entire time. I couldn't turn it off. I got nothing else done. This is only my 2nd ever Stephen King novel. The first was Misery. This one I enjoyed more. :)

What SK should I read next?

shortsarahrose I loved this book, especially on audio. If you‘re ok with horror, I also really enjoyed Pet Semetary. It‘s one of the creepiest books I‘ve read (well, listened to - audio is also great for this one), but it has good character development like Dolores Claiborne. 2d
KathyWheeler A much later Stephen King book that isn‘t really horror and is great on audio is 11/22/63. The hero goes back in time to try to stop the assassination of John F. Kennedy. 2d
LoverOfLearning @KathyWheeler so funny you say that! I just thrifted 11/22/63 for free in perfect condition! Ha! It would be cool to do a tandem read with the book and audio! Soon! 2d

LoverOfLearning @shortsarahrose I'm listening to Shawshank Redemption now on audio. Just started it because it's short. I'll look for this audio too! I know it's a favorite of many! 2d
shortsarahrose Shawshank Redemption is one I definitely need to read still (I‘ve seen the movie, though!) 2d
KathyWheeler @LoverOfLearning I‘ve both read and listened to many of his books. This was one where I‘ve done both. I hope you enjoy it. 2d
Mirazzles I loved this audiobook! 2d
