"Tegan is eight months pregnant and her world is crashing down around her. The father of her baby wants nothing to do with her and has promised to make her life hell. She's lost her job at the convenience store. And she has no idea what she's going to do to take care of little one. In a last ditch effort to find help and get away from the threats of her ex, Tegan heads out in a storm to drive to her brother's. But she never arrives. Tegan wakes in a ditch, having skidded off the road. Stranded and terrified, she's taken in by a couple living in a remote farmhouse. But they may have ulterior motives and Tegan soon realizes she's stuck in the middle of nowhere at the mercy of strangers. The nightmare she's running from is nothing compared to where she's headed"--

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
Another McFadden thriller with mixed reviews but I really enjoyed it!! The story did seem to drag a little in the middle but overall a good thriller!😱

The more and more I think about this book. The more i like it.
I was very "meh" about it at first. Too predictable and all of the characters are very unlikeable. But McFadden really weaved some stuff in there that had me revisiting it for a couple days after finishing.
Not like her other books - it wasn't my favorite of hers, but it was certainly done quite well.

This was my least favourite book of Freida McFaddens but I did start and finish it in a day 🤣 I found it felt predictable and some parts felt unnecessary. I still love her as an author tho 😂🥰

She did it again, threw in twists at the end that you don‘t see coming! A little Cathy Bates Misery type craziness. I read this in less than 24 hours. Book #18 in 2025

2.5⭐While her books are bingeable, I‘m unsure whether they‘re bingeable enough to make up for all the cringeable…also the unbelievable. I‘ve liked a couple by her & hated one other…looking at you, locked door. Although, I don‘t think I‘ve yet read enough of her books to form a satisfying opinion.
I‘m not a fan of LeslieHoward‘s narration. She might‘ve been okay if she had only been Polly‘s narrator and had other narrators for the different POVs.⬇️

AudiobookingWithLeah One thing that threw me off, is the nurse in this book mentions that they give magnesium to help a labor to start and I‘m pretty certain, since I‘ve had it administered to me to stop my early labor, that she got that one wrong. But seriously, how did she get that wrong when she (the author) is an actual doctor? 2mo
5feet.of.fury I‘ve read 3 of hers, I liked the Teachet, Never Lie was ok, Do Not Disturb I didn‘t enjoy. Some of her twists are just so improbable that it gets silly. I haven‘t read this one yet but I think you are right about the magnesium. 2mo
AudiobookingWithLeah @5feet.of.fury I think I want to try The Housemaid at least and I have heard good things about The Boyfriend...so maybe that one too. 1mo

I wasn‘t impressed.

What could have been a decent story disappeared a third way in. Not very likable characters.

If you‘re in the mood for a time-waster read this would be it.

bookaholic1 Seems all her books are a waste of time...:) 2mo
Soscha I was wondering same. She seems to have a following though. I‘m mostly over pretzel twists & twists for the sake of having twists. Riley Sager too, I‘m afraid. But I do love thriller/suspense novels. 2mo
5feet.of.fury Yeah, a couple of hers I did find to be fun, but the twists can be very unrealistic 2mo

⭐️⭐️ I‘ve heard McFadden rips off ideas, but this is the first one I actually noticed. And I didn‘t care. It wasn‘t full-on nor well-done. The Crash is no Misery. McFadden is certainly no King. But that‘s not my issue. It‘s a dumb story with very rudimentary writing. Recently published, The Boyfriend, showed a larger writing range from her which I enjoyed, but this was not good. Girl is inconsistent AF. My green kindle is cute, tho.

Suet624 The photo didn‘t come through -at least on my feed. 2mo
britt_brooke @Suet624 Thanks for letting me know - it should be there now. Weird! 2mo

First half I was thinking this is my least favorite so far, the protagonist for whatever reason I did not like. Second half, it‘s up there with my favorites 🤷🏽‍♀️ plot twist

Another book I am going to have to compare to Misery. I think Misery had a lot of inspiration for this book. It took me completely out of the story when she called her baby little tuna. Like out of all the names... or when her baby would talk to her. It was just so out of pocket. I was not surprised or thrilled at all. I thought everything was very obvious. This just wasn't very good 😕 2/5

I‘ve read a lot of Freida McFadden‘s books and have loved every single one. This one, however, was almost a complete dud. I almost DNFd it several times, but I like to finish what I start. The twist at the end is the best part of the book, and that‘s just meh. Read at your own peril.

I'll be honest, I wasn't a big fan of Misery by Stephen King... so I wasn't much of a fan of this book either. It has too much of a Misery vibe to it. If you loved Misery, like tons of people did, you'll most likely enjoy this one. ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

I usually love Freida‘s books but this one was just ok to me. The 2 main characters were ridiculously annoying & it dragged a bit in the middle. Freida always has great twists but this one was kind of predictable & fell a little flat. 3⭐️

britt_brooke I‘m reading this now and not impressed. I‘ve really enjoyed several of her books, so a bit of a bummer. 2mo
JenlovesJT47 @britt_brooke yes same here! My favorite of hers is the first Housemaid book. I‘ve enjoyed all of them except this one. It wasn‘t terrible by any means, just not great. 😕 2mo
TorieStorieS My book club just voted for our next month‘s read and it was a tie between this and The Frozen River (which I read with my other in-person book club last year!) so I was hoping the tiebreaker would pick this one until I saw your review! 😬 2mo

JenlovesJT47 @TorieStorieS 😬😬 it‘s not a bad book by any means, I just thought the main characters were highly annoying! I just started one of her other newer ones last night, The Boyfriend. It‘s really good so far! 2mo
TorieStorieS I‘m waiting to hear which book will win-but I‘ll let you know! I‘ve never read anything by McFadden before! 2mo
JenlovesJT47 @TorieStorieS I‘ve read almost all of them and I‘d highly recommend The Housemaid series. I read the first book in one sitting! I think they‘re making a Netflix show about it. I‘ve listened to a bunch of them on audio and with 1 or 2 exceptions I‘ve really enjoyed them all. That‘s why I was surprised I didn‘t like this one as much. 2mo
TorieStorieS Oh it looks like they are available through KindleUnlimited, too! If this one doesn‘t win for my book club, I‘ll start with that series— adding to my kindle now! 2mo

4 Stars • Yet another fantastic thriller by McFadden. "The Crash" by Freida McFadden is about Tegan, who's pregnant and trying to escape her problems by driving to her brother's. She crashes in a snowstorm in Maine and gets rescued by a couple. But things get creepy; she suspects they're not good people, leading to a tense, twisty tale of survival and suspicion.

I‘m starting to think Freida McFadden might not be for me. Her stories aren‘t bad, there‘s just ok. I really enjoyed The Boyfriend but the rest have been predictable. This is no different. I kept waiting for the big shocks, and there was one toward the end, but by that point I didn‘t care. I found the main characters annoying and kind of dumb and was kind of disappointed when it was over. Will that keep me from reading more? Probably not 🤣 🌟🌟🌟

BookKenz I also thought this one was so-so, but immediately thought, "Well, maybe I'll try reading The Boyfriend next and see if it's any better." Once you start Freida, you can't stop. ? 2mo

Well this story, although easy to follow, went in several directions. I was both entertained and disturbed by some characters and their actions. It‘s a complete ending even though I‘m a bit unsatisfied how things played out for one (no spoiler) of them.
