Another Murakami which puzzled me and yet kept me engrossed in a weird little tale of a man with an ear fetish and his girlfriend with a magical ear traversing the mountains in Japan to look for a sheep with a star on its back that may or may not be controlling the world & a friend named the Rat, on the bidding of a right-wing political giant‘s secretary. It was a strange ride alright, but the vibes were pretty good
A Wild Sheep Chase was my first Murakami listen. I had read Kafka On The Shore before and found that listening to Murakami was significantly better.
This book was quite hilarious. Some parts were a little ramble-y, as is Murakami‘s style. But overall, this book was very funny and entertaining.
The narrator, David, has done a fine job and brings the protagonist to life in all his disenchanted stupor. 😄
“Generally, people who are good at writing letters have no need to write letters. They‘ve got plenty of life to lead inside their own context.”
Lots of #litsylove going out today! Love my brand new pack of Tom Gauld postcards 🤓 thanks to @bibliothecarivs who told me who the artist was so I could request them ❤️ thankful I can write letters again, too! Still haven‘t settled last year‘s car crash
1. I had a black cat called Sooty. I recently found out he wasn't our cat at all, my mum had been feeding him so he started hanging around. I wondered why he disappeared for months at a time 😄
2. I'm thankful for my family, who are always there when I need them ❤

Finished my last Murakami for #AuthoraMonth with 40 minutes of March to go. Have to say I left the best to last, I really enjoyed the book, but I wonder what Murakami was smoking when he wrote this one 😂 Quite surreal in places, but held my attention throughout. Some big surprises towards the end of the book. I certainly would recommend this one to others, but do suspend a bit of disbelief. Glad I persevered with him this month, this was my 7th!

Trying to fit one more #AuthoraMonth book in before the end of March.
Eloquent prose! This is the third in a series (Hear the Wind Sing and Pinball 1973) about the unnamed protagonist, his friend “Rat”, the bartender pal “J”, and the oddly named women who waltz in and out of the MC‘s life. Next in the series is Dance, Dance, Dance, which I hope to read soon. 4.4 🌟. Would have been 5 except for certain comments made in reference to female bodies

@Soubhiville
Eh. I need to stop giving Murakami more chances. Same as I‘ve said before, fascinating complex magic realism happening to a pervy divorced guy as usual with a younger manic pixie dream girl girlfriend as usual, with a pile of random extra sexism thrown in like staring at the ‘large breasted receptionist‘ over the road. A big yikes.

A Wild Sheep Chase is my first Murakami! The synopsis cannot do it justice, but an ad executive in 1978 uses a postcard image of sheep in an ad and suddenly finds himself (and his psychic ear-modeling girlfriend) on a literal wild sheep chase under pressure from a powerful right wing boss. This book runs on dream logic, but it‘s more vivid, strange, & real than any dream I‘ve ever had. I feel kind of hypnotized! What Murakami would you recommend?
This is my second Murakami and I am now hooked. The narrator and his girlfriend with perfectly formed ears are forced by a head of the Japanese far right to search for a mysterious sheep spirit , a journey which will lead to the mountains of Hokkaido, an abandoned farm, an encounter with an old friend and the sheepman. I take it as a metaphor for Japan‘s history and its experience with right wing politics. But then again I may be completely wrong.
"Loneliness wasn't such a bad feeling. It was like the stillness of the pin oak after the little birds had flown off."
This one was a little harder to get through. That said, the last quarter of the book was great. This #Murakami finishes clean rounds off the story so well. I felt fulfilled after the last page.
First book of 2019 and first one checked off my #LitsyAtoZ list! A terrific romp through the world and mind of Murakami.
Birthday money shopping spree. My husband, who frequently tells me I have too many books, even gave me his blessing. #guiltfree
My fourth Murakami book in two months. Looking forward to settling down with this one!
I knew then and there right after reaching almost the end part of the book, I got to give it a 5 ⭐. Well every singe book written by Haruki Murakami deserves all the stars. Started out with an unnamed character embarked on a journey that would set to change his whole life ahead if he failed to do the task as the chosen individual. So the story went by so as the Man's adventure searching for a sheep with a star on the back. It was a great read. 👌
Currently reading this book. Kind of mythological and allegorical. Typical #Haruki Murakami writings always exquisitely written. The enigmatic aspect of the flow of the story has the readers undulating in their minds.
Basically read the whole second half this morning. Murakami is always entertaining although this wasn‘t my favorite of his. Interesting to read one of his earlier ones. I felt having #SullivanCat in the picture was appropriate. #catsoflitsy
Up next. I can never get enough Murakami.
I‘m a bit of a plane geek and have always loved 747s (the upper deck!! 😍) but this is hilarious. To me, they‘ll always be queen of the skies though!
Beach reading on this ridiculously hot, hazy day.
Only in a Murakami book do we get such chapter titles 😂
An excellent work of art that gives the reader an atmospheric and dreamlike world to explore. Every page seems like you are reading straight out of the author‘s mind, making it seem like a highly personal journey through Murakami‘s imagination and view on life. It‘s a very fun read, but not for everyone. The author allows the reader to interpret the meaning behind a lot of the strange occurrences in the book. Highly recommend if you like Murakami.
'For months I'd been stuck, unable to take one step in any new direction. The world kept moving on; I alone was at a standstill.'
I'm liking this book so far. Though he has become my favorite, one thing that I keep wondering about is why Murakami's books feature too much sex. 😀

finishing this one before my big vacation starts😊 it's weird and fantastic, as usual 😊❤️
a bit of reading on my trainride to vienna 😊 Murakami is one of my favourite authors and so far I absolutely enjoy the book😊
I love stumbling upon an indie bookstore, and I ALWAYS buy something. It's the very least I can do. Picked up another Murakami backlist title today at the delightful Burton's in Greenport, NY. #shopindie
"If you only read the books that everyone else is reading, you can only think what everyone else is thinking." -- Haruki Murakami
An early Murakami which I had not read... It has all the elements: a passive male narrator, quirky girlfriend and a mysterious stranger who persuades him to go on a quest. Not my favourite of his works but i love how the protagonist is so normal ('mediocre' he says), cooking, reading & listening to music; it's like spending time w a laid-back friend, as the story becomes psychedelic, with otherworldly Hokkaido setting & a talking 'Sheep Man'.
Onboard reading and much-needed ☕️
Haruki Murakami is always good for some #CrazyCovers, isn't he? #MarchIntoReading
And several still ongoing 😳😜🙄

There were sheep. And the metaphysical. Shady characters, bizarre conversations, and spot on observations. But overall, there was Murakami's always elegant, fluent, witty, tasty, succulent prose.
And even though I can't be sure I even understood it all, I definitely recommend it.
"Which would mean we too were imprinted into the earth."
Ahhhhh...Murakami. *sigh*

Found this article (link below) that I believe describes Murakami's work better than I could. Murakami is one of my faves and if you haven't yet read any of his work, this article provides a few short summaries to get you started.

Because who doesn't think of pliers when dreaming about a cow and a peach tree? Cow + pliers = Murakami

Maybe not as thouroughly surreal and good as Kafka on the shores or the Wind-up Bird etc but nonetheless a pick! This sheep chase is indeed something extra!. How did it actually do it.?..😅 #murakamicultmember
How the inputs of "soundtracks" really changes the imagined scenery when listening to them meanwhile. Place you practically there- like a repoussoir but for literature. One can but love it! #murakamicultmember
