Secrets of the Tulip Sisters (Original)
Secrets of the Tulip Sisters (Original) | Susan Mallery
25 posts | 17 read | 16 to read
A New York Times Bestseller! Told with Susan Mallery's trademark heart and humor, this is a charming tale about the problem with secrets, the power of love and the unbreakable bond between sisters. Kelly Murphy's life as a tulip farmer is pretty routine--up at dawn, off to work, lather, rinse, repeat. But everything changes one sun-washed summer with two dramatic homecomings: Griffith Burnett, Tulpen Crossing's gorgeous prodigal son; and Olivia, her beautiful, wayward and, as far as Kelly is concerned, unwelcome sister. Tempted by Griffith, annoyed by Olivia, Kelly is overwhelmed by the secrets that were so easy to keep when she was alone. Olivia's return isn't as triumphant as she pretends. Her job has no future, and ever since she was sent away from the bad boy she loved, she has felt cut off from her past. She's determined to reclaim her man and her place in the family...whether her sister likes it or not. But while Kelly and Olivia butt heads, their secrets tumble out in a big hot mess, revealing some truths that will change everything they thought they knew. Can they forgive each other--and themselves--and redefine what it means to be sisters?

Pro‘s: Griffith‘s tiny house business, Kelly‘s tulip farm, Griffith‘s patience helping Kelly with her orgasm problem, Griffith feeling obligated to employ his brother but figuring out where that obligation ends.

Cons: Apparently there aren‘t many people in town. Kelly dates Griffith. Kelly‘s sister Olivia dates Kelly‘s ex Sven, Kelly‘s best friend dates Kelly‘s dad, and Kelly‘s mom runs off with Olivia‘s ex, who‘s Griffith‘s brother.

What fun listening to this book! I live in a Dutch settled town that celebrates tulips and all things culturally Dutch once a year with a huge festival! And the tulips are just starting to bloom for that festival now! My town could have been the inspiration for this book ???? with a fun storyline and interesting character relationships, it was a thoroughly enjoyable read or "listen" ?

First book from Susan Mallery. I thought it was good but not great. It had an interesting story but it seemed to go on and on. I enjoyed it enough to that I'll try another book from this author again.

Half way through. Not loving it - but not totally hating it. Feels too much like a romance novel to me. Too much sex!

Normally I love Susan Mallerys womens fiction but this one was just boring. Boring characters, boring town and weird relationships.

Please someone tell me how to get a job editing. This is a high profile author at a high profile publishing house. Sorry but this is unacceptable. #typosmakemecrazy

TheKidUpstairs Is it digital? I often find digital editions have a lot of typos. It's incredibly frustrating. I recently read a book with a character named Stacy, and it switched back and forth between the spellings Stacey and Stacy the entire time. I wanted to throw my kobo out the window. 7y
Bostonmomx2 @TheKidUpstairs it is. I find the same thing and somewhat expect it with independents but this? No. Just no. Lol 7y
CocoReads I'm right there with you! 7y

[DELETED] 3803335244 I'm terrible with grammar, (all those years writing short hand in nursing). If I can spot grammar errors, that book has a problem. And I've come across a few books recently too! Understand your disappointment 7y
Bostonmomx2 @ForeverNerdy I actually am an editor but in the medical field so it's second nature to read a little bit differently than most I guess. 😊 7y
julesG English isn't my mother tongue, though I read English texts mainly. I keep telling myself that the authors should not thank their bunch of editors when even I find typos and grammar errors. 7y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I'm reading Hunger now and I'm seeing the same thing!! It drives me crazy!!! 😩 7y
valeriegeary Is it an Advanced Readers Copy? There are often a slew of small errors in ARCs that get fixed before going to print. Probably the author is just as horrified by these typos as readers-- I know I would be! But sometimes things get overlooked. 🙆 7y
Bostonmomx2 @valeriegeary nope. Pretty sure arcs aren't available in ebook format right? I don't think so anyway. 7y
Bostonmomx2 @valeriegeary plus it's from the library so... lol 7y
Alfoster @valeriegeary I agree. All my ARCs are in ebook format and there are always errors. I've gotten over the mistakes (still drives me crazy) but if you're going to send me a free book, I'll live with it! 7y
Bostonmomx2 @Alfoster I could totally deal of it was an ARC even tho really it should be edited by then, but this is library so not an Arc. 😊 7y
Alfoster Wow! So someone needs us (Litsy) to edit!😳😳😳 7y
Angela_AVT I overlook mistakes in ARCs, but in a final pub that's unsat(isfactory). 7y
Angela_AVT I just looked at my arc and it reads (sic): "you were going to be pulling your 200-square-foot tiny home all over the place, you didn‘t want to be weighed down. No granite countertops..." So it looks like they changed the ARC - maybe autocorrect or spellcheck error. 7y
Bostonmomx2 @Angela_AVT oh cool, thanks for that. 7y

This just came avail via the e-library. I've been looking forward to it but then read a review stating it had way too many "ick" factors. So now I'm really apprehensive (especially after The Roanoke girls ?). So I'll proceed with caution but if it's what I think it might be, I'll be taking Susan Mallory off my list.

#TBRtemptation post 1! Recently released. A 4-star rating on GR. Kelly has a routine life as a tulip farmer. Things change when the town's prodigal son, Griffith, returns and sets his sights on her, and when her estranged, unwelcome sister, Olivia, comes to stay. When they butt heads, their secrets tumble out publicly and awkwardly. Will they eventually forgive and come together? #blameLitsy #blameMrBook 😎

A smart, fun, contemporary, relatable book about two very different sisters — the farmer and the fashionista. https://randombookmuses.com/2017/08/04/review-quick-and-dirty-3-secrets-of-the-t...

Wow. Where do I start? I am a huge Susan Mallery fan. Huge. But I did not like this book. One of the reasons I love her books so much is because I can always count on her to keep it clean. No F-words, no vile, crude language. This had no f-words that i remember but i wish i had known the word "dick" was going to appear so many times, i could have kept count. Plus, i didn't cry not one time. I always cry reading a SM book!
⭐⭐

Bostonmomx2 I just bailed on this about 30% or so into it. Completely boring. I don't recall that word tho, maybe I hadn't gotten to all the dick-y parts yet lol 7y
MimiLovesToRead @Bostonmomx2 it takes a little while before Dick makes an appearance 😂😂😂 7y

Bostonmomx2 @MimiLovesToRead I generally do too. I gave up on her one series, now I can't even remember the name, because I got to a book that was so ridiculous I just couldn't do it. The Gold something or other, fools gold maybe? 7y
MimiLovesToRead @Bostonmomx2 yes, Fools Gold. I haven't read those. Not sure I ever will. I just read her latest stuff. 7y

aizekj To be honest, I'm not sure. It came from the publisher addressed to me but I don't know why. 7y
aizekj I think what happened is that I won a book from William Morrow and they accidentally sent me the wrong book. I'm not complaining though. 7y
