This book was irritating at first, but towards the end, I realized why it was repetitive.
This book was irritating at first, but towards the end, I realized why it was repetitive.
This is a compilation of Greta‘s speeches from 2018-2020. It is repetitive because she is stating the same facts over and over—but repetition is necessary because of “inaction” like she states. Reading this made me feel hopeful and simultaneously powerless. I hope change on a large scale happens before it‘s too late.
Completed. A fast, easy and important read.
This will be a fast read, but I am enjoying reading her speeches.
I knew of Thunberg but I had never heard a full speech, so it was nice to have them collected.
I read a speech a day so while it did get a bit repetitive, it's also driving the facts that difference needs to happen and now more than ever. Not only that but to trust the science, believe in the knowledge that they are presenting and to make these changes both locally and globally.

We must listen to Greta, our young people, and climate justice activists. Greta is wise, and so are my students in the Youth Activist Book Club. This was one of their two picks for our summer discussions. It was also my July #BookSpin pick.

Completely agree with the message but I‘m less keen on the delivery
A collection of Greta Thunberg‘s speeches from 2018-19. It‘s a short read (75 mins on audio, read by Greta herself), and the speeches are presented without further comment or analysis, so it is a little repetitive.
As always, though, her words are a wake-up call, a call to refocus and do better, to learn, act and hold our politicians to account. It was good to hear her full speeches, and to learn a little more of how this started for her.
Really enjoyed this book, what an amazing girl to have so much confidence to stand up to those making decisions and tell them to change their decisions.
Greta is such an inspiration. This edition is special because of its photos at the events she attended.
This little book contains some highly influential and powerful speeches given by climate change activist Greta Thunberg over the past year. I‘m knocking off a star because if you consider this book as a whole, it‘s quite repetitive, but still a recommended read. 4 stars!
My full review is up on my blog now 📚
This is a collection of her speeches as promised but it could have used some simple editing to make it more effective. I finished it out of a sense of duty and (like other readers) feel that the title should have better matched the content. I don‘t regret reading it; it just wouldn‘t suit other readers with other expectations or needs.
I ordered this book from #BookDepository for 3 reasons:
1. I was hoping to win the #GoldenBookmark ( I did not)
2. I was hoping to learn how I could make a difference in reversing climate change ( I did not)
3. I could fulfill a prompt for #NonFictionChallenge2020 ( I did, indeed)
Greta is great but this book, NOT SO MUCH. 👇🏽
This is a good quick read with an important message. It's a collection of Greta Thunberg's speeches so it's a bit repetitive, but facts like the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change stating that there needs to be a 50% decrease in carbon emissions by 2030 are worth repeating. She doesn't want politicians and people in a position of power to listen to her, she wants them to listen to scientists and take the radical action that's needed.
Okay, so I think I hyped the book up for something different then I thought it was. As it is written, as a collection of Greta‘s speeches, it‘s exactly that. From September 2018 to September 2019. Just over 100 pages. I was expecting something more along the lines of here‘s what we can do, since no one is too small. But this is what Greta meant for, as she says repeatedly; stop acting like it is okay our house is on fire and do something.
Adults keep saying: ‘we owe it to the young people to give them hope.‘ But I don‘t want your hope. I don‘t want to be hopeful. I want you to panic. I want you to feel the fear I feel every day. And then I want you to act. I want you to act as you would in a crisis. I want you to act as if our house is on fire. Because it is.
Yesss! I have no words to describe just how important this line is to me.
A lot of people say that Sweden is a small country, that it doesn‘t matter what we do. But I think that if a few girls can get headlines all over the world just by not going to school for a few weeks, imagine what we could do together if we wanted to.
I just feel like I need to focus on this. She sees her autistic Asperger‘s as a gift. I have it, myself. I have trouble some days seeing it as a gift. This opening to her book is already making me, no a young adult, rethink Aspergers and how it affects my day. I‘m still working on not seeing everything black and white, so I kinda hope Greta mentions it in one of her speeches. Either way, I‘m excited to read her speeches the way she intended them.
She is smart and inspiring. And now I need to find ways to reduce my carbon footprint.

I think everyone should take the time to read this book. It is a collection of Greta Thunberg's speeches from 2019. Her passion comes through on each page, and what she has to say is important. 🌏
Essential.
We all have some degree of agency and we should seek to exploit it. Thank you Greta for showing us how.
For the sake of the planet we must change our ways, now. 10/10
Necessary.
Repetitive.
But necessary.
A man in his 70s bullied her on the world stage & not only did she win ... she got stronger.
This small voice is our future.
Read this over the weekend and I think it's a decent read. I think these speeches work better as speeches and feel too repetitive in book format. I also feel like she could use more factual evidence in her work instead of just saying to look at the science. People aren't going to go through the effort (I'm not) and I believe she's got a wide enough audience to make us properly "panic". That said, the subject matter is important so ??
Reading two really inspirational reads! #currentlyreading #tbr #gretathunberg
This is a powerful, intense collection of climate activist Greta Thunberg‘s speeches. I listened to this straight through, and though it is repetitive by nature, being a series of speeches, it was moving to hear back to back, especially given most of the speeches are read by Greta herself, in her earnest and furious and urgent young voice. Thank you to Libro.fm for the free listening copy!
Very fitting that this was delivered today. She was named times person of the year and our unfortunate leader decided to attack her for it. Shameful, she is such an inspiration for her activism and also the way she handles being bullied by the leader of the United States.
My plan was to check out a ton of books from the downtown library but apparently my card is expired and I lost my local library so I can't renew it...😅😅 so I went across the street to the B&N to read some stuff for a while #tmskellington #wintergames

"A lot of people, a lot of politicians, business leaders, journalists say that they dont 'agree' with what we children are saying. They say we are exaggerating, that we are alarmists. To answer this I would like to refer to page 108, chapter 2, in the latest IPCC report."
This compilation of all of Greta's brave speeches on the climate change crisis is eye-opening and important. Everyone should read it and everyone should start taking action.
No One Is Too Small to Maje a Difference with a Chainsaw 🤷🏻♀️
I interrupt today‘s regular reading program (ie Owls😂) to share a few pics from the Climate Strike with Greta Thunberg today! It was an inspiring event filled with young people making their voices heard. I was so glad we could be there.
All reading plans went out the window tonight, because we found out Greta Thunberg is making an unscheduled visit to Charlotte tomorrow for a Climate Strike!
Maya‘s school is within walking distance 🎉🎉 so we are joining the group of students from the school that got permission to walk to the strike and attend. Let the sign-making commence! 🌍
This is a book of the speeches Greta has made over the last year. I don't really have anything to say about it except that I'm a little bit in awe of her, she's a badass, and you can see her fury in these speeches.
Got this when we were in Sweden. What a brave girl. I‘ll be certainly joining in any actions that highlight climate change . People power !!
“Because how can we expect countries like India or Nigeria to care about the climate crisis if we, who already have everything, don‘t care even a second about it or our actual commitments to the Paris Agreement?”
Wow, this says it all.
Greta Thunberg has more class, intelligence and integrity than Arron Banks could ever imagine. What a vile man.
Greta Thunberg, fearless climate activist and overall badass, published her collected speeches earlier this summer. Reading her speeches ignited a fire in me to commit even more to reducing carbon emissions. I‘ve been a vegetarian for 25 years, buy fair trade clothing, and eschew traveling. But clearly, I need to trade my CRV for a Tesla. We need to hold our leaders accountable and demand a future for today‘s kids!! 🌏
This tiny book of teenager Greta Thunberg‘s speeches packs a big punch . . . if only the “adults” in power will listen. We are dangerously close to the point of no return—when there will be no way to sustain life on the planet. I hope everyone will read these speeches and then call their legislators to demand that the greater good be served by drastically changing our destructive ecological behaviors. Listen to the scientists.
"[W]hat is the point of learning facts within the school system when the most important facts given by the finest science of that same school system clearly mean nothing to our politicians and our society? . . . So everyone out there: it is now time for civil disobedience. It is time to rebel." [12-13]
Why does this 15-year-old make more sense than so many world "leaders"? Wake up, people!
Great article I saw today about the publishing industry showing more and more environmentalism to keep up with young people‘s desire to do more for the planet. A big range of books for different age ranges discussed and recommended in the article. I love seeing children passionate about the environment and I‘m really happy publishers are noticing this and trying to keep up. Link in comments cause it‘s too long for this post
I recommend this tiny book to absolutely everyone. It‘s a short collection of Greta‘s speeches over the last couple years and I found them so affecting to read all together, even if I‘d read or heard them at the time. Her speech to the British government about climate change and brexit really needs to be talked about more here 😞
“If our house was falling apart, you wouldn‘t hold three emergency Brexit summits, and no emergency summits regarding the breakdown of the climate and ecosystem.”
Amen Greta.
“We live in a strange world, where we think we can build or buy our way out of a crisis that has been created by buying and building things.”
Greta has become one of my biggest heroes, this is an incredible book
