Our Town: A Play in Three Acts | 
so-soI have read a couple of books this year that mention - or in the case of Tom Lake revolve around - Our Town. I have somehow gotten through this life without seeing or reading the play and thought I should correct that. It isn't a play that is performed around my area so reading it was the way.i think I would have more affinity for it if I had learned it in highschool. It is a sad story and 👇.

This play is dear to my heart. And timeless. That‘s what makes it a classic for me ❤️😢💔

pickIt had been years since I last read or watched this play, and I wanted to revisit it after reading Tom Lake. I‘m glad I did! There‘s a lot to make you think no matter what age you go back to it. 💗 Personally I was happy to have read Tom Lake first but I think if you‘re not at all familiar with Our Town you‘ll want to read the play first.
Read along with the 2003 production with Paul Neuman (because I loved him and he and Joanne Woodward used to stay at Canyon Ranch in the Berkshires when my brother was a manager there) as the Stage Manager. The intro to this edition listed the other popular Broadway shows running at the same time - none endured as this one has.
I‘d never seen it, but wanted to before I dove in to Tom Lake. Lotta deep thoughts now.
pickTom Lake is on my tbr. I understand it refers to Our Town a few times. This was a quick read. Good to be knowledgeable of this classic I‘m sure.
The last time I read this was in AP English back in 1983. 😳 After reading TOM LAKE, I had to revisit it, and I'm so glad I did. I remember finding it pointless at the tender and stupid age of 17. What the hell was wrong with me? Such a poignant reminder to carpe diem--especially the most mundane moments of our lives because going about our daily business is the life of living and we must cherish every single second. Thanks, TW, for the reminder.

This was my first time reading it and I kept asking myself whyyyyyy did I not teach this way back when I was teaching high school English?! 😩 #regrets One of the many Bookstagram accounts said to read this play before diving into Tom Lake, so I did and it was a great suggestion ❤️
pickI absolutely love this play, but seeing it performed again this summer was an emotional experience. It was the 25th anniversary of my Mom's death and she performed as the lead in high school. The play is a celebration of life, both its simple routines and its big moments. Seeing it and rereading it was incredibly moving. I can't imagine experiencing this play and not appreciating the beauty of life a bit more when you are done.
pickStill one of my favorite reads! Definitely going to make this something I revisit yearly. I love how Wilder pushes boundaries and while the theme of the play isn‘t revolutionary, the presentation is. It‘s a quick read that could really be done in a couple hours.
One of my favorites reads from high school… found this copy in a little library outside the local school. So happy I picked it up and it‘s fun to see what notes the different kids have left in the margins. Also super interested to see how I‘ll feel about the story now that I‘m in “act 2” compared to when I first read it!

#OnThisDay in 1938, Our Town debuted on Broadway. It would go on to win the Pulitzer Prize and the NY Drama Critics Circle Award later that year. This was the second of Thornton Wilder's three Pulitzers (two for drama, one for literature. Can you name them?), and remains his most popular work. This play shows the importance of appreciating the small things, companionship, and not taking life for granted. A wonderful light read, rich with human nature

My January bookclub is approaching and been putting this one off! We are going to each take a part and read/act it out. Wine will be flowing 🍷🍷🍷 It‘s been decades since I read this in high school and don‘t remember loving it. Maybe because they made us watch the play as well?!?! I feel like lance Kerwin was in it or Johnboy from The Walton‘s.
pickI needed a short read after Hamilton and this was perfect. Each time I read this play I‘m amazed at how perfectly Wilder captures the human experience.

I spent this afternoon doing my weekly food prep and listening to the classic play, Our Town. I enjoyed reading it as a kid, but as an adult, it felt like a nostalgic remembrance of a time that never really was. Set in the Jim Crow era and pre-19th Amendment, I have a hard time believing things were that good. Still, if you ignore everything else, it‘s a sweet love story.
And tonight‘s dinner? Drunken cod and clams 😋
Tonight we had final dress for this show. I had never seen it before and the cast blew me away. There are two younger cast members who were brilliant and my friend was an amazing stage manager. The cast stays on the upper level watching the action that takes place in the rest of the theatre. I am so excited for people to see this beautiful show.

I've had such a stressful day at work, my feet are sore, and my stomach hurts 😫 So I am in definite need of some quality reading time. I've been slacking on my reading lately but moving to a new place is incredibly stressful and so is working 12 hour shifts for three days in a row (which I do every weekend, it's my regular shift) I promise I'm trying to make time for Litsy, as I do love it so much!
Bought this for my husband when he began writing his first script for a Christmas show for his Chorus. His plan was to use a narrator that only the audience could see. I didn't realize it won a Pulitzer! #alltheworldsastage
