Day 2: Dunkirk

I bet it‘s been 25 years since I saw the movie adaption of this book starring Ethan Hawke. I remember it as a thriller against the winter elements of the Andes. The matter-of-fact culinary options described in the book seriously made my body twist and had me eewww-ing aloud all by my isolation self. Yikes. This book remains a great read.

I read this in my tenth grade English class it‘s about a group of rugby players that want to go to Chile but their plane crashes in the Andes. In the beginning I didn‘t really enjoy this book at all,but when we found out more about the characters and there real life experiences I started to really enjoy it.I thought this book was really interesting, and emotional I loved it when they finally reunited with their families again totally recommend!!
It was 1972 when a plane full of Uruguayan rugby players crashed deep in the Andes. Shockingly, the majority of the occupants lived over 10 weeks in frigid temperatures. Food ran out long before they were rescued, so they were forced to resort to cannibalizing their dead companions.

Let‘s be honest. The true story of the plane carrying a Uraguayan rugby team that crashed into the Andes in 1973 continues to intrigue. The young men were stranded over 10 weeks. While most died, the survivors were forced to resort to anthropophagy in order to remain alive. The movie deals with the cannibalism of these young men in a very sanitized fashion whereas the book is far more graphic but respectful. Who would not break a taboo to live?
Next up on #litsyatoz is Alive by Piers Paul Read that was turned into a pretty mediocre movie starring Ethan Hunt.
My Litsy A to Z challenge is Books into Movies. Here are my standings thus far. #litsyatoz #litsyatoz2018 #booksintomovies
A fascinating and well written account of the 1972 plane crash in the Andes mountains and what the survivors endured for 10 weeks and the unimaginable things they had to do in order to survive. Most of all, I was astounded by their strong desire, determination, and faith to stay alive and find help. Highly recommend!
This is a tentative pick for me. Certainly a compelling story, the survivors of a plane crash in the Andes mountains struggle to survive for 72 days in brutal weather conditions. The only food onboard is chocolate and wine, so they must resorting to eating their dead companions. My biggest issue with the book is I found it impossible to keep everyone straight. A list in the beginning would be 👍🏻👍🏻. #booked2018 #setoutdoors
Ok so I got a bit confused on today‘s prompt. 😂 it‘s actually #justlikefire. And this surely involves fire since it‘s a plane crash right? 😂 Anywho, I need to #getmovin on my #pop18 and #booked2018 and this is perfect for Booked!
I finished this one this morning. If you like narrative non-fiction, you really should read it...amazing story of human resilience and determination. #25infive
This is on my TBR thanks to @Cinfhen . I decided to use it for the #booked2018 prompt for a book set outdoors and I can‘t wait to read it! There are 45 people aboard a plane in 1972 when it crashes in the Andes. Most of those 45 people are #doomed. The ones that live through the crash must survive in the Andes for 10 weeks before they are finally rescued. #aprella
When I was a teenager, I was riveted by this book about the Andes flight disaster. I've been wanting to reread it. #planes #readingresolutions @Jess7
Wow, what an amazing story! This book tells the story of the Uruguayan rugby team that crashed in the Andes in the 1970s and how they survived for over 2.5 months. Definitely give this one a read!
#NuYear #TheAircrashBureau “On October 12, 1972, a plane carrying a team of young rugby players crashed into the remote, snow-peaked Andes. Out of the forty-five original passengers and crew, only sixteen made it off the mountain alive. For ten excruciating weeks they suffered deprivations beyond imagining. And to survive, they were forced to do what would have once been unthinkable ...” I saw this in the cinema when I was 16. Incredible story
#DecDays Another book that will earn a spot on my #bestbook2017 list... On October 12, 1972, a plane carrying a team of young rugby players crashed into the remote, snow-peaked Andes. Out of the forty-five original passengers and crew, only sixteen made it off the mountain. Despite the freezing #cold conditions & dire circumstances the survivors made a pact . This true story of resilience, courage, belief & friendship is awe inspiring 🙌🏻❤️
I read this in middle school, I believe. I also believe it gave me nightmares for days! But ever since, I've loved books about mountain climbing gone bad.

#90sinJuly One of my favorite karaoke songs 🎤 🎵These four books are all excellent and feature #IceIceBaby ☃️☃️☃️☃️
I saw the film several years ago and picked this out of a stack of books a friend was giving away. I was struck by the ingenuity, endurance, and determination of these young men.
Here's a Sunday evening #Riotgrams post. These are two #truestories that have been on the shelf for awhile but still unread.
Anyone else seen the movie for Alive? Highly recommend if you're into early-90s Ethan Hawke (who isn't?).
#RockinMay Day 14 This is a powerful true story of survival, courage and faith. A plane transporting 70 passengers over the Andes mountain range crashed in 1972. Most did not survive. The 16 remaining passengers were remarkable #DontStopBelieving was their motto and anthem! They found ways to push through, persevere, and find comfort in each other and God. Gripping read. #BirthdayChallenge #FiveTissueRead #5555giveaway
Still working my way through this true story of survival! Doing brunch the healthy way...spinach frittata (no dairy) for me & shakshuka for hubby 💙💚and we both passed on the delicious looking rustic bread
Enjoying my 1974 #birthdaychallenge read but loving my strawberry , banana , almond milk & dates smoothie ✅🍌 🍓 This book is really well written making it hard to believe I'm reading nonfiction.
#AlexGiveaway loving this nonfiction read...a true story of survival @Liberty and the Flynn is a favorite of my hubby's 🤓
An unbelievable survival tale that would seem ludicrous if it was fiction. BUT IT REALLY HAPPENED. This true story has it all - a plane crash, compelling characters, and CANNIBALISM. Not for those with weak stomachs.

#FunFridayPhoto I have several favorite books like The Scarlet Letter and Tess of the D'Urbervilles, but I often think of this one. I can't remember why it was assigned in high school, but this story of survival has stuck with me for years. Later I also read Miracle in the Andes, which was written by one of the survivors.
I don't have this on my shelf so phot credit to Goodreads. 🤓
#FunFridayPhoto! Cold weather book! This book tells the true story of the men who survived a plane crash in the Andes mountains! A sad but intriguing story of survival, strength and being stuck in ridiculously cold weather! One of my favorite non fiction reads of the past few years!
