This was a hard one to get into because it doesn‘t follow the same main character and it was so slow in the beginning. What I really enjoyed about American Gods was the complexity of the problems and all the gods we got to experience. It took a really long time to experience any of that magically portion which caused me to drag my feet reading this. That being said, once those elements were back in the story, I was flying through the book.

1) I have always liked Charlie as a name. In fact I had a guinea pig in middle school I named Charlie & there are a lot of great literary associations (Steinbeck, Dahl, Schulz) associated w/ the name.
2) American Gods is my favorite book by Gaiman & I have always meant to read the follow-up featuring Charles Nancy.

Really enjoyed this, I wasn‘t a massive fan of American Gods but this resonated with me a lot more. And was extremely funny in parts.

I loved this book! I love folk tales, magical realism and Neil Gaiman. So glad it was an #lmpbc pick. It should be in mail by Wed at the latest. But hopefully I will be early and able to stop at post office Monday (full disclosure though this is highly unlikely since I really struggle with being on time)

Low pick for me. Neil Gaiman books are always a hit or a miss for me. This one was a bit of a miss. It was entertaining in some parts, but I may have skimmed a bunch.

Goodreads stated this was American Gods book 2, which I didn‘t realize, but I don‘t remember anything about American Gods, so it definitely is a stand-alone.

Went in the mail today, priority, so should be there by the end of the week. #LMPBC

Gaiman never disappoints. While this isn‘t my favorite Gaiman, I still greatly enjoyed it. Great prose, incredible imagery, and wonderful humor.

This book made me very angry early on and I still can‘t let go of my anger. Any book with dubious consent that tries to play it off for laughs later on will never be good in my book. That being said structurally it was well crafted but my rage has tainted any of the good bits.

I started out strong this week but then hit a sort of slump because I feel some dubious consent issues coming up in the tagged and I don't want to face that but also I don't want to quit the book either so I'm kind of like ... procrastinating on it?

The narrator did a fantastic job with the voices of all of the different characters. But there were too many unanswered questions at the end. In all honesty I probably missed something, but who knows 🤷🏻‍♀️

I know this is not that big of a deal to some people, but… After months of struggling to reach this point, she cried to the night sky in triumph one word, “BINGO!” #bookspinbingo Also, “Anansi Boys” is a wonderful reimagining of the lore behind Anansi. Charles (or Fat Charlie to some) is a character that grows on you as the story progresses and by the end you realize how truly relatable his story is.

Perhaps my favourite author, definitely my favourite doggo 😉 Anansi boys was another hit for me. I love how Gaiman does myths, both when incorporating existing material or just creating his own. Currently reading his 'Norse Mytholgy'

My first Gaiman. I actually enjoyed this more than I expected to, so a pleasant surprise! I'm looking forward to reading more from Mr. Gaiman

Starting my first Neil Gaiman!

This was highly entertaining. The narrator did an amazing job. Anansi is a trickster god from African folklore. He's a spider. The book has tales interspersed within the narrative. It's pretty clever. It makes me feel more inspired to read American Gods.

I love how so many of Neil Gaiman‘s books tie into each other. This audiobook I went into blind not knowing anything about it, and it turned out to be a treat. If you enjoyed reading American Gods then you should check this out since it goes into detail about one of the old Gods mentioned.

This was the 1st audiobook I ever listened to and I thought it needed a revisit. Still “absitively” enjoyed it. Lenny Henry is a master voice actor and brings the story to life. 3/5🕷s

I loved his Norse Mythology book and stardust But this one really didn‘t do much for me 😕 I was curious to read something featuring folklore! But I never really connected to the characters... and the story dragged at times: Sorry Vickie! @Wife I tried! 😟

Listened to David Tennant‘s podcast yesterday with his interview of Neil Gaiman. It was interesting-he talked about the worlds he has created. This story took me awhile to get into & won‘t be my favorite of Gaiman‘s books. I still really liked it, especially how he wove all the different character stories into a web. This was my #bookspin book for January—I‘m a little late! @TheAromaofBooks

4-star story! Supernatural spin on mistaken identities

5-star audio direction! The full cast, the music, the accents! 😲🙂🥰

2-star audio quality 😬 Despite how good the cast is, why is it so technically flawed?? Low volume and the sound of dead-air? Come-on BBC, use better mics or filter the audio tracks - something! (A pet peeve of mine.)

One of my favorite things about Gaiman is that he treats religions and mythologies from around the world with respect and in many cases, for me at least, brings them to life. In this book, ancient African gods come alive in ways you can‘t get just reading history. It is spooky and funny and a blast to read. I‘d be interested to see if Fat Charlie and Shadow from American Gods ever meet, considering it looks like they share a world.

I know there is now a new BBC radio production of this, but I snagged this audiobook read by Lenny Henry on Libby while it was available a couple of weeks ago. I was in the mood to visit with these old friends again and Mr Henry‘s performance is fantastic!

I found the beginning slow, but there was a lot of twists and surprises as the story got moving.

And another #AuthorAMonth reread done! This is another one of my favorites by him. It's weird that I can forget how much I love this book. I used to read this one every year. And somewhere along the way I switched back to American Gods being my most oft reread. Anyway, this book is great fun and you should read it.

This was a fantastic book. I loved the African mythology mixed in it. After the death of Charlie's father his life is thrown into chaos. He finds out that his father is a God, he has a brother and his boss tries to frame him for embezzlement 🕸

This was enjoyable but predictable.

Great story but always feels a bit rushed at the end. Too much happening too quickly, everyone conveniently converging without reasonable explanation. Can't remember how many times I've read it though.
