October is scary month and this read fits right in. Who killed the small boys in this small town? Didn‘t they already find the killer? When children are part of the story it‘s beyond scary…😩. Psychologically scary.

A fast paced, well written mystery that hopefully won‘t give me bad dreams. A little bummed it didn‘t take place in the Midwest like I imagined but I guess rural England is just as cool
A solid thriller with lots of twists and turns. If I read this again I would skip the audiobook though. The narrator did not differentiate the characters well so it was difficult keeping track of POV‘s. 4⭐️

A brilliant story with a slightly paranormal twist which I loved. I enjoy books involving moving to new towns and starting over, and this one was exceptional. The old crimes restarting 20 years later aspect was intriguing and I enjoyed how the whole story unraveled to its riveting conclusion. A great new author (for me) to watch.
Both thrilling and suspenseful. I felt like we needed a better explanation for Frank‘s motive.

Publisher‘s Description:
In this psychological thriller, Alex North weaves a multi-generational tale of suspense, as a father and son are caught in the crosshairs of an investigation to catch a serial killer preying on a small town.
This was a perfect book for the Halloween season! It was a subtle thriller which I liked and was not over the top. After a local boy goes missing is new resident Tom Kennedys son the latest target? I just really liked the slow build to the climax and truly was creeped out in parts. Definitely recommend 🤩
100% picked up because Christopher Eccleston narrates the audiobook. Halfway through, enjoying the slow burn so far
Finishing off my holiday reading stack with this very enjoyable chiller/crime novel. As a young boy goes missing it mirrors crime committed 20 yrs earlier whose perpetrator is in prison. The connection brings the original detective back into the investigation while at the same time a widowed father and son move into the local creepy house and strange things start occurring. Really well told story which kept me guessing to the end .
Wow this is not one I would normally pick myself but my partner and I needed a listen for our 25 hour road trip. This was a mystery but also a story about father/son relationships. I really enjoyed it.
All the stars!
It's a shame it took me 3 years to finally get around to reading this page turner, but I'm just glad I finally did!
A story that examines the relationship between fathers and sons....oh, and serial killers.
There were moments that were truly frightening where I found myself holding my breath! And yet, there were moments that were extremely poignant that had me drying my tears.
A must read!
This was my first Alex North book and it did not disappoint. I enjoyed the twists and turns throughout. There were parts in the plot that made me say “oh come on!?,“ but those were few and far between.
I don't want to say too much out of fear of giving away some of the story. If you like creepy mysteries, you will likely like this!
Yesterday was #IndependentBookstoreDay and I ended up in Asheville, NC for my Subaru‘s servicing and decided to hit up Mr K‘s Used Books and ended up with a wonderful haul! 📚
This was a good one! A fast ride, sufficiently creepy and just a well-done thriller. Loved all of the different POVs and how it kept me guessing and very invested.
Side note: I‘ve had my BOTM copy on my shelf for a couple of years, but 100% listened to the audio instead because it‘s read by the 9th Doctor.😘
My #MurderMystery for #Booked2022.

You know that feeling when you‘re reading and you get so lost in the story that you forgot you were reading a book? The mental imagery projected so clearly in your minds eye that when you take a break and look up you‘ve forgotten you exist in this reality?
This is that book.

Spooky, well written thriller that kept me reading and was definitely more creepy than horror. Great read for this time of year, I recommend if you are looking for a layered, intense read and don‘t mind children as the victims. #BookspinBingo @TheAromaofBooks
Ooh! This is a good one! Well crafted with little twists along the way, this novel keeps the reader guessing to the end. It's a look at how we deal with trauma and loss and how we listen to others (or not). It's also about the things that haunt us and how sometimes the difference between "real" and "imaginary" isn't all that clear (and maybe doesn't even matter).
I've read a bunch of putatively scary books this month, but this is the first that's made me jump when my family members enter the room behind me. What a delicious feeling, both wanting to and being afraid to continue reading!
I may be reading #spooky for October but here in Texas, it is still poolside. Got in a good swim and now reading for my reward.

What are you reading? 😊
Bubble bath and kindle let‘s see how far can get with this read not long left to complete it
This was a rec from one of my coworkers. It was good! I liked the story and the characters. At the beginning I was afraid it was going to spook me too much, but it honestly didn‘t. That doesn‘t detract from the story though - definitely satisfied my true crime interest. It was a pretty easy, enjoyable read
The weather is nice today. Mid 70s with sunny skies. Actually a touch cold for my taste. I‘ll be happier when it warms up to the mid-80s towards the end of the week

This book reminded me of the reason why I love crime fiction: the thrill. The pacing was great, and I was at the edge of my seat all the time I was reading it.There was even a night where my anxiety kicked in and I had to put this book down for a while because it was beginning to 'feed' it. 😅
North is definitely someone to watch out for! 🧐

Something new to try
Ever been glad you stuck with a book? This one had a slow start, but man, I‘ve been glued to it once it got going. Very creepy.
Whenever I go to the hardware store I always grab a few paint samples to use as bookmarks. #sorrynotsorry
About as propulsive a page-turner as you can get. Alex North‘s thriller manages to elevate the standard serial killer thriller format with some truly horrifying imagery and tender character work. A really great read. #thriller
I have nothing to post 😂 so here‘s a pretty pic. I did finish one book this week so I guess that‘s an accomplishment 😂.

Very excited to join for another round (it‘s been a while). 🤗 I‘ll tag the titles in the comments, but have y‘all read any of these?
Last month, I read The Whisper Man by Alex North—and holy smokes, this was a thrill ride. Might just be my favorite title my eyes have consumed this year, so far.
Father and young son seek a fresh start in a small town, but instead are swept up in the town‘s dark past—a past scarred by a serial killer.
I love scary stories.
I do not scare easily.
This book scared me.
This twisted tale gets 5/5 butterflies.

Finally getting around to this book that my kids gave me for Mother‘s Day! I‘m about halfway through, and it‘s so spooky (which I love)!
A drunk cop, a loving father, and a 5-year-old live in a city where a whispering murderer is killing kids. This book had it all! Murder, mystery, ghosts, and even butterflies. The plot had me reading straight through (not only because I was avoiding nightmares) but because I HAD TO KNOW, " Who done it?!" Tom had me wishing that every father cared this much about their child. ❤ Gotta love Jake! I was very pleased with the ending. 1/2/21-1/3/21
Devoured this one pretty quickly- a very good, creepy suspense with some twists that make you realise the book isn't really about the abductions and murders at all.
I love the "sensitive" nature of Jake-the blurring of "reality" and the "supernatural".
There is something about a father and his boy that will always break and mend my heart....
A good thriller, with a few unexpected twists. The ending seemed a bit rushed, but I enjoyed it overall.
⭐️: 3.5/5
Full disclosure, I only listened to this one because it was read by Christopher Eccleston (while not my favorite doctor, he is still in Doctor Who) 💚.
The narration was a bit stiff and there was no difference between characters/voices. It took me a minute to figure out whose perspective I was getting.
The mystery itself was good and I didn‘t see those twists coming. It was just the right amount of creepy.
#Booked2021 - Hear/Here - audio
A definite pick. I liked this better than his most recent one, The Shadows. There was definitely a creep factor here and a few twisty turns. The book kept me interested throughout. This is the one where I kept hearing Hannibal Lecter‘s voice in one of the characters. A Strong ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
1. Yes. 2 My mother and aunts read. We share books and my mom and I buddy read a book a month. 3. Live in the Time of Cholera. Please considered yourself tagged. Thanks for the tag
When this character, Carter, speaks I hear Hannibal Lecter‘s voice. Makes it a tad more creepy.
Been reading since 5am. Still need to do sub plans bc I‘m getting my second vaccine later this morning, but this book is getting really creepy and I can‘t turn away.
